Interview with Actor Charlie Goh

You might have caught actor Charlie Goh in various films and productions but do you know it was by chance that this Singaporean actor got into showbiz? Find out how Charlie began acting, which Hollywood star he hopes to work with if given the opportunity and the movie character he can’t turn down to.

Hi Charlie, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Please share with us a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi my name is Charlie Goh. I’m a born and bred Singaporean and I’m 27 this year. I am a full time actor residing in Singapore and I’ve been acting full-time for 3 years now. I am a diehard Gunner (Arsenal fan) and I can have a debate with someone the whole day on why Arsenal is better than Manchester Utd or any other club in the world. Hahaha

Was being an actor something you’ve wanted to be when you were a kid?

I wouldn’t say being an actor was something I have always wanted as a kid because I’ve never really knew what I really wanted when I was a kid. Only when I was in my late teens, I chanced upon theatre and that’s when I realised that I really enjoyed acting.

What are some of the challenges you face as an actor?

I think the biggest problem I’m facing now is that I’m doing a long form drama called “Tanglin” and playing a 17 year old boy. And each time I attempt to take on a different character for a different production, I find it very hard to jump out of the current on-going character I’m playing. I’ve always known it wasn’t going to be easy but I never expected it to be this hard.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, past or present, who will it be?

My all time favourite actor is Leonardo Di Caprio. Not to mention about collabs, just to meet him on set would be a dream come true haha!

What hobbies do you have?

I’m really quite a simple (boring) guy. On my off days I’ll just watch the Barclays premier league or hang with friends over a cup of coffee. That’s about it really.

One movie character you’ll say yes to playing without any hesitation?

Good cop bad cop movie or series. Bad cop anytime. The kind you see in Infernal Affairs. That was really brilliantly made in my opinion.

What’s the funniest thing a fan has said to you?

*comes up to really excited* and says “Hi I really like you so much you are my biggest fan!!”

One fun fact about yourself which people might not know?

Age doesn’t determine maturity, I am a proven living example.

Hello! My name is Flora and I’m from Singapore. I own multi-label retailer ClubCouture and document my travel and style adventures at floraisabelle.com.

Where did your inspiration from blogging come from?

I started blogging many many many years ago actually! Back in the day when blogs were online diaries and I’d share about my life.. graduation, moving to Thailand, starting my business, wedding planning etc. Today a large part of my blog is still about my personal life!

How will you describe your personal style?

Clean, comfortable and minimalist.

Are there any fashion or beauty trends that annoy you?

Wearing leggings as pants. I. Just. Can’t.

What do you splurge on and save on?

Comfy shoes are a MUST! Especially since I’m out and about a lot. As for saving, many drugstore makeup brands are actually as good as counter brands!

Do you have any guilty pleasures which you can’t live without?

Frozen yogurt 😛

Which cities are on your travel list of must visits in the near future?

New York, definitely.

If you had the chance to meet anyone, past or present, who will it be?

There was this guy I went out with when I was 16 but I was too young to understand the dynamics of dating. I ended up hurting him quite badly but we have since lost contact and I never got the chance to apologise to him.

The sky’s the limit for Celestine Swee

Who is Celestine Swee?

100% born and bred in the little sunny island of Singapore, and proud of it!

I’d like to think of myself as an all-rounder/multi-tasker… I believe that one should not just be judged on what they do, as there are no limitations when you have the will to achieve. “I will (achieve) what I want.” I have a full-time office job in sales, on weekday nights and weekends I do freelance modelling and acting. From time to time, I participate in volunteer work for causes I believe in. It makes me treasure the life I’m blessed with. There are too many less fortunate people around us, and we should all do our part for the better of the community.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?

I used to think that you’d die from swallowing chewing gum… until recently LOL. Can’t fault me, chewing gum is banned in Singapore!

Do you have any hobbies?

I gym in my free time. My gym is my happy place – positive vibes only. With all my commitments, my schedule is really tight, but I always try to work out at least once a week. There was a period of time I used to gym every other day, but now with more assignments it’s hard to keep up with that routine anymore. You have to ensure your body gets enough rest as well, otherwise you might strain yourself or fall sick easily.

Most embarrassing thing you’ve done?

Fell onto the train tracks – in front of all my friends and entire lecture hall mates. Had to walk around in crutches for the next month or so. I was instantly recognizable from a mile! It was awful.

Three things you can’t live without?

Technically speaking oxygen, water and food hehe.

If you had the chance to meet anyone, past or present, who will it be?

If I could meet me in the past, I would have told myself – pain is only temporary, and it will only hurt as long as you allow it to hurt you. Once you decide to let go, then nothing can hurt you anymore. I’ve loved and I’ve lost before; who hasn’t? But what I regret is suffering longer than I should have. Every day spend drowning yourself in misery is a day lost that could have been happy.

Are you more comfortable in lingerie or bikini?

It depends on the location mostly. If I’m at the beach, of course a bikini! But I don’t know how to swim actually, got this phobia of water. When I was very young, I was playing in the pool when I went under and almost drowned. When I’m at home alone or in my room, probably lingerie would be better.

Weirdest pickup line or attempt at knowing you from a guy is?

“Are you waiting for me?” – How am I supposed to reply to that…?

What’s the sexiest thing in your wardrobe?

Last year I dressed up as a corpse bride for Halloween – white corset, white lace mini skirt complete with white mesh veil and white fishnet thigh-high socks. There’s a picture of that OOTD on my Instagram, it would be very sexy if not for the scary make-up hahaha.

One word that best describes you?

“Chameleon”

Someone who isn’t afraid of change, able to adapt to my surroundings.

What’s sexy to you?

I think being sexy is being comfortable in your own skin, regardless of what you are wearing. Inner confidence is very beautiful and sexy. Anyone can be sexy, as long they learn to embrace their own flaws and sexuality.

I love to shop and follow up with the upcoming trends. And when I talk about trends, it’s not about following it blindly because not everybody can be in that particular outfit and give that WOW impression. I’d choose something comfortable rather than forcing myself to be in an outfit and feel uneasy the entire day. I’m from Singapore, the sunny island 🙂

Where did the inspiration to start your blog come from?

Because of the industry that I’m from, I meet a lot of people around the world. Therefore, I observe the different kinds of people along the way and just talk about fashion / bar-hops / cocktails / lifestyle and last but not least, personal opinions that I observe along the way on some topics. As the co-founder of Portrait2Mix, can you tell us more about it?

As the Co-Founder of Portrait2mix , we do cocktail catering that provides (bespoke cocktails and mocktails). My mixologist and I believe that our company is all about being Fashionable, Passionate and Uniquely.

Not only must our bespoke cocktails taste good, it has to be presentable as well. All these services can be done for weddings / media launch / private parties / Corporate dinner (Dinner & Dance) etc.

Portrait2mix is a 1 stop service! I say this because we provide models & brand ambassadors for various company to create awareness to them during events. The latest event that we’ve done was (The Macallan Rare Cask), our brand ambassadors were there as well as our mixologist and bartender behind the bar. We did a bespoke cocktail specially for their event. As all our cocktails, you’ll never be able to have it at any other bar around the world unless you see our company at that particular event. If there are no requests, we will not re-use the concoctions.

Which are your favourite cocktails?

We’ve done many events over this one year, my favourite cocktail that my mixologist did was The Snowy Breeze. This cocktail was done during The Singapore Yacht Show 2015! The spirit was (Snow Leopard Vodka).

What’s the best way to enjoy a glass of whiskey?

The best way to enjoy a glass of whiskey depends on the person that is drinking. Because whether it’s a dash of water, on the rocks, neat or cocktail style, the taste will certainly be different. I’d prefer it on the rocks if you were to asked me to choose.

If you had the opportunity to time travel, where will you choose to go?

I’d choose to go to the future, so I’ll be prepared for what is coming my way. As well as to concentrate and do things better in order to have a better future!

Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion?

Nope. You define your own fashion, if you’re good then others will follow you.

What hobbies do you have?

My hobbies are definitely shopping!!! I have to attend events so I’ll not want to be sloppy, therefore I constantly shop for clothes as well as accessories. And during days when I have more time, I will book appointments for facial and at night to visit bars so I can share it with my readers on my Facebook.

Who is Bethia Wee?

Hello! I am Bethia Wee, a fitness competitor, blogger and enthusiast from Singapore. I love training as it keeps me sane! I am also currently a year 3 student at Ngee Ann Polytecnihe, taking up an International Business Course.

What’s your fitness regime like?

You can say that I am addicted to training as I train everyday! I adopt a split routine, training different muscle groups on different days.

Monday: Legs

Tues: Back

Wed: Chest

Thursday: Shoulders

Friday: Arms + Cardio

Saturday: Legs

Sunday: Any lagging muscle group + Cardio

I add in abdominal exercises based on feel twice a week!

I’m a morning junkie so working out enables me to start my day on the right note.

Where do you get your motivation from?

I need no motivation because I love what I do! So in another word, I am self driven and motivated, my goals of getting better all the time keeps me going. I work hard, I see improvements, and I feel good. That is more than sufficient.

Common excuses you hear about not exercising?

“ Oh, I’ve no time. Too much work!”

“ I don’t think it will make much of a difference”

“ I am fit enough, exercising is not necessary”

“I’ve accepted the fact that I am lazy.”

What’s your favourite food?

No one exact favourite. But cod fish, chicken breast, sashimi, dark chocolates, ice cream and smoothies are on the top of the list!

How is your diet like?

I watch what I eat very closely to ensure I can stay relatively lean all year round. Definetly not to look like how I was on stage, but good enough to be called for an ad hoc photoshoot.

It isn’t difficult for me to eat clean because I don’t fancy fried oily food either. I am also a person pretty adverse to change to food(picky eater), so my weekly diet is generally the same!

Monday to Sunday Breakfast:

Protein Bar + Bread + Peanut Butter + Shake + Chia Seeds (optional)

Weekdays lunch & dinner:

Meals at Wafuken in Asia Square Mall Tower 2.

I take exactly 10 meals per week there, and this is of no exaggeration at all. You can say that I am addicted because they serve delicious clean Asian fusion Japanese style cuisine, which I can never get sick of! As mentioned earlier, I am very cautious about ensuring I get the right nutrients I need on a daily basis, so having my meals at a place I trust makes it all simpler than to think of different places to eat everyday.

Weekends lunch and dinner is where I do some research for food hopping! Anywhere with a good serving of protein, I am good haha.

If you had the choice of any superpower, what will it be and why?

I want to have the superpower of emptying my tummy whenever I want 😛

Enabling me to eat loads of food, and just anything, without getting fat! I will be able to selectively remove all the excess food and unhealthy crap from the stomach after meals.

Which cartoon character best represents you?

I would say Popeye the sailor the man because he brings around spinach. As silly as it sounds. I bring around vegetables in my bag- celery/carrot sticks, corn, cherry tomatoes. All that snacks to keep me alive!

What other hobbies do you have?

I love to eat! I find joy in looking up for new places to eat, in particular Japanese buffets where I can go crazy on sashimi haha.

Other hobbies would include dancing, something I’ve been doing since young. Though I haven’t been dancing as OFTEN, I still enjoy it very much! Hopefully I’d be able to plan out some time for it in the later part of the year.

Craziest thing you’ve done?

When I was 15, I felt that my life was too plain and decided to do something beyond the ordinary. I pencil rolled on the streets of Orchard Road, planked in the middle of the pavement, wore pyjamas and high heels, all for the fun of it.

What’s sexy to you?

Independence and trust In terms of physical appearance, nice delts and chest!

How will you describe your fashion style?

Smart casual. I’m cool with just singlet and shorts for the whole week. Or probably a body on dress. (Of course not the same top and bottom!)

I believe almost everything is nothing near to sexy. It’s the person who wears it that makes it sexy? Haha!

I usually shop online or have second hand items passed down from my other two pretty sisters. (Sad to be the last child too)

What’s the most expensive item you have splurged on?

My phone. Yes. Am not somebody who would throw my money on branded stuffs though.

Do you have the urge to critic someone’s dress style if you see that it is a fashion catastrophe?

Yes. If it’s hilariously matched. I mean, who doesn’t judge when they see a walking disaster. Even my mum would pass bad criticisms.

If you had the choice of any superpower, what will it be and why?

To be able to read people’s minds? People these days are so conscious about the way they speak. Straight forward people do not seem to exist anymore.

Which cartoon character best represents you?

Opposite of Winnie the pooh. I’m a man living in a woman’s shell.

What guilty indulgences do you have for food?

I love fried chicken, durian and basically food.

Naughtiest thing you’ve done?

Not the sexy kind of naughty though. But I’ve been cheeky most of the time.

One of it was, I tactically placed a fake lizard to scare everybody in my family. One of them fell off their chair and the other threw his phone away.

What’s sexy to you?

Curves. I really think having a fleshy body is extremely sexy compared to skinny to bone ones. Of course, fleshy does not mean obese.

Dawn Tyn is an Instagram addict

Who is Dawn Tyn?

I’m Dawn, currently pursuing a Business Diploma in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I spend most of my time lazing in bed, and procrastinating (Bad, I know) I’m an Instagram addict and my favourite past time is singing and I occasionally fill up my YouTube challenges with rants and challenges!

How will you describe your fashion style?

I feel that I don’t have a very distinctive fashion style, I just wear whatever I like, and my choice in fashion defers from time to time. Last year, I was obsessed with wearing skater skirts and now, I love wearing halter crop tops and bandage skirts/denim shorts. I love sneakers (you will rarely see me wearing heels) and I don’t usually accessorize much. I guess… you can say that my style is preppy, and simple.

What’s the sexiest thing in your wardrobe?

Granny panties! Hahaha, I kid. I guess, the closest thing that is sexy in my wardrobe to me is my bareback croptop. But ladies, the sexiest thing you can wear is confidence 😉

A must have in your life is?

My loved ones. Without them, I don’t think I can handle all the stress I always have in life. It’s good to have support once in awhile.

What’s the most expensive item you have splurged on?

So far, I have never really splurged on anything too expensive, I’m quite budget-based. But I must say, I spend A LOT on clothing once I get my pay, and people have to stop me. Oh, but I did spend the most on Hardwell tickets recently!

Give one example of a fashion disaster you have laid your eyes on

I can’t stand people who wear crop tops and tights. T I G H T S. No man, I can see your cameltoe from 50km away.

If you had the chance to learn anything in this world, what will it be?

Pole dancing! But not in a sexual way! I really admire the pole dancers man. They can swing around the pole and are able to stay up there in position. Their abs must hurt, right??

Which movie character best represents you?

It would be Cady Heron from mean girls! I always feel the need to fit in and it NEVER worked out. Eventually, I learned that the best way to be happy is just be you.

One fun fact about yourself not usually known?

I can touch my nose with my tongue. My friends freaked out when I showed them.

Craziest thing you’ve done?

I went to Zouk and told my mom I had to go camp (sorry mom). But really, she now knows, as I confessed hahaha!

What’s sexy to you?

Confidence, definitely. But aesthetically, definitely jawline.

Amanda Toh is photogenic and has a ton of hobbies!

SimplySxy catches up with Amanda Toh from Singapore as she shares her experience participating in Miss Universe Singapore 2013 and her beauty secret to looking so fantastic.

Hi Amanda, thank you very much for your time taken to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Can you share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

I’m Amanda, 23 years old and am currently an undergraduate in Murdoch University majoring in International Business. Currently working in AXA Insurance as a financial planner and a talent with AnticipatingDiva and Phantom Models. Was a finalist and Miss Photogenic in Miss Universe Singapore 2013.

How was the experience of participating in Miss Universe Singapore 2013 like for you?

Miss Universe Singapore was my first pageant and it was a lot to manage as I was only 20 back then. It was not as easy as it seems as it was extremely nerve wreaking – having to catwalk in a bikini and designer gown in front of hundreds of people gave me butterflies. It definitely boosted my confidence in front of the camera and with my stage presence after. I made new friends and even met my best friend in this pageant which was one of the best things that ever happened because it’s never easy finding a genuine friend who take cares of you and watches out for you like a elder sister. Not only that, we had to stay in best shape and prepare ourselves for the pageant. It was one of the best experience I ever had in my life.

Do you have any hobbies?

Tons of them! I love traveling and exploring new things in life. Meeting people along the way and understanding different culture and history. I love sports and especially yoga, swimming, hiking and running. Movies, reading and cooking too! I used to play the piano, violin and the Chinese instrument Pipa for 7 years.

As an avid traveller, which is one city/country you will love to visit but have yet to do so?

Well, I would have to say Egypt and South Africa!

What is your beauty secret to looking so good?

Working out and having a balance in what you eat. I indulge in desserts, especially dark chocolates but I believe everything has to have a balance. I visit my facial place once a month and I use a whole range of organic products from Australia.

Are you more of a lingerie or bikini girl?

This is a tough one but it depends on how I feel, and if I have to choose one.. I would say I’m a bikini girl. I love the sun and the beach! But I love my lingerie too!

What is the naughtiest thing you have ever done?

Haha it’s a secret and it’s only meant for my boyfriend to know.

Hi! Thank you for having me. My name is Ryan Ang and I’m from sunny Singapore. I’m a freelance dancer, instructor and choreographer and have been dancing for about 7 years.

When did you start dancing?

I started dancing in Junior College in Singapore (when I was 17) on my school’s dance club. The funny thing was that I had never thought about dancing as even a hobby before, but when I was watching one of their shows, the thought of “hey, I want to do that too” started going through my mind and I just ran with it.

Is there any particular type of dance which you specialise in?

I would say my specialty would be a mixture of Jazz Funk and LA-style of Hip Hop. The reason why it’s not one single distinct style is that I never subscribed to the belief of just doing one genre/style of dance. This combination of genres can be super sensual, or even sassy, lyrical or a wide wide variety of expression of emotions.

In addition to dance, you’re also a choreographer. How do you find the balance between the two?

I feel that as a choreographer, you create movements to music and teach it to people to express your message and purpose. It’s a very good avenue for catharsis and creative expression. However, personally I feel that a dancer and choreographer is not an ‘either or’ situation on a see-saw. It’s more of two parallel paths in this dance journey that can happen simultaneously. Personally I still enjoy being a dancer more as I like to express others’ intentions and message through their steps and I feel that I still have so much more to experience and learn.

What are some of your personal highlights so far?

One of the highlights of my dance journey is dancing for Indonesian pop star, Agnes Monica. Getting the opportunity to live in Jakarta for a month, training with choreographers Dejan Tubic and Janelle Ginestra and to perform with such an amazingly beautiful (both inside and out) artiste was mind-blowing for me. It gave me a taste of what It would be like to go ‘on tour’.

Another recent highlight was getting cast in the Singapore musical “Dim Sum Dollies’”. We were required to both dance and sing and act, and it was a treat to be able to branch out of purely dancing to try other creative fields too.

If you had the chance to collaborate with anyone, past or present, who will it be?

Ummm, definitely Beyonce. No contest. Just because Bey. She really knows how to put on a show and it would be amazing to collaborate with her. OR if we were talking choreographers, I would say Kolanie Marks. I just feel he has a lot of knowledge and experience to share and it would be a great learning experience.

Do you have any other hobbies?

I’ve recently been taking singing classes so that’s pretty interesting because I get to express my emotions not through my dance/body, but through my voice. It is hard! Mad props to singers out there.

What’s 3 fun facts about yourself which most people might not know?

1) I am a Netflix whore. (like I could just sit and watch for hours on end)

2) I eat a lot. Both healthy and junk food. And I really enjoy eating. It’s a good thing I have a fast metabolism. Ha!

3) I am a hopeless romantic. Long walks on the beach kind. The Notebook kind.

Sexy, in my opinion, is being comfortable embracing you/yourself. Essentially being comfortable in your own skin, owning it and werking it.
