Actress Veracia Yong shares her most embarrassing moment!

The beautiful Veracia Yong is an actress and has appeared in various TV commercials for brands including KFC, Yeo’s and Toshiba. She hase also starred in several local and international TV series and films.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?

My Chinese surname Yong (雍) is very rare and we’re the only family in Singapore that has this surname. And yes, we’re Singaporeans.

Do you have any hobbies?

I love solo traveling! When I travel alone, I prefer going to different spots in the country to take nice photos than to go shopping.

I also love architecture and animal photography. When I travel, I love to take pictures of stray animals. I feel a connection to the animals as I look at them. Some are happy and some are sad. I like to capture images of these strays and and upload on kexpresso.tumblr.com.

Most embarrassing thing that has happened to you before?

There were so many! But the one that tops the list would have to be a time when I just started acting. At that time, I had to juggle a few different stage performances at a time and it was very hectic. For one of the performances, I had several quick changes and tons of lines to remember and props to use. There was a scene where I had to spell ‘Singapore’. Because I was so preoccupied trying to remember my lines and the props, I actually spelt it wrongly in front of an assembly of close to a thousand school kids! Even my co-actors were stunned. You can imagine how awkward that moment was!

Boy, I can never forget that. Know your spelling guys.

Three things you can’t live without?

My phone! Who can live without a phone these days?
Potatoes – My staple food.
My glasses. Without them I’m as blind as the three blind mice.

If you had the chance to meet anyone, past or present, who will it be?

I think it’ll be my long time idol, Sakurai Sho from Arashi. He’s smart, talented, very hardworking. Also, I’ve to give him a little credit for who I’m today, as he’s influenced me greatly in the pursuit of my dreams.

I would also love to meet Beyonce. She’s so badass and so inspiring, at the same time. Her stage presence is amazing! She looks like a fun lady to hangout with!

What is your most memorable highlight so far?

Seeing Sakurai Sho, face to face and eye to eye, at his movie premiere in 2014. #lifegoalcompleted

Which music artiste is currently on your playlist?

I listen to a wide genre of music from Billboard Top40s to indie to jazz and Kpop.

My current on-repeat albums are Kang Gary’s solo album 2002 and IU’s Chat-shire.

What’s the sexiest thing in your wardrobe?

For some reason I have a black sheer thong in my lingerie drawer.

One word that best describes you?

Witty – or I like to think of myself that way. 😉

What’s sexy to you?

Sexy is being confident about your body and your life. Sexiness is an attitude. Women are so hot when they are in their element, like focusing at work typing vigorously or carrying a baby and strut in heels, that is like WOW.

I also find men in classy suit way sexier than topless guys.

Rachael Valentina – Model, event talent and talent judge

Hi all, I am Rachael and I am 19. I am currently still studying full-time in Sports Management. I am a part-time event talent and I have a blog where I blog about beauty and lifestyle. So if I am to briefly describe myself, I am an extrovert and open-minded human.

How did you start off as a model and event talent?

Being in the modelling/event industry is what I dreamt of as a kid. I started out in photoshoots since I was 12 as I helped my cousin out for a school project and when I was 17, I was given opportunities to be a photoshoot model for boutique shops, friends or photographers.

I then went into events when I saw a Facebook post on a group, and I got selected for the event job and that’s how I started as an event talent till now.

After a year or more being an event talent, I then proceeded to try out runway modelling and I am truly thankful for the opportunities given. I did runways for the Singapore Yacht Show in early March/May and also just did a recent runway walk for Carries Model. This is definitely one of my favorite parts of my job.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

I really love to pen my thoughts down and blogging gives me an opportunity to. I have went to events such as The 2015 New Paper Face Finals, Miss Singapore 2015 and Miss Singapore Talent Judge and I think it is a beautiful thing to share with everyone my experiences!

What challenges do you face most when it comes to maintaining your blog?

One of the challenges I faced most is that I hardly have time to keep my blog updated weekly. I am always either studying or working most of the time, so whenever I have time at home, I will always try to blog.

As 2015 is drawing to a close, are there any memorable moments this year which you enjoyed particularly?

I have so many memorable moments this year (laughs). If I have to choose, that will definitely be the Miss Singapore Talent judging segment. Yes, you get that right, I was one of the judges for Miss Singapore 2015 Talent segment!

Other that that, every runway show I did is always close to my heart.

Which beauty products are you currently using?

It is not easy to say this but I am currently having an acne breakout so I am using doctor’s prescription of products.

If you had the choice of any superpower, what will it be and why?

Teleportation. I hate travelling places to places especially when I have more than 2 event jobs in a day!

Are you more likely to be partying on a Saturday night or chilling at home?

I personally love chilling around with my friends with a couple of drinks once in a month but other than that, I will most likely be at home!

Which are your favourite types of food?

THAI FOOD.

Funniest thing you’ve done or experienced?

This is a hard question because there’s so many funny moments in my life that I can’t even think which is the funniest. Hmmm, I guess one of them would be that I farted accidentally on my friend’s face at work once because he was squatting down to replenish the stocks and his reaction was priceless and all I did was laugh.

What’s the definition of sexy to you?

Being sexy is not about having big boobs or big butt. It is about how confident you are and how you feel about yourself. However, being over-confident is not sexy at all!

Retail and Hospitality designer Jeshere Lim

I’m Jeshere, 22 and I’m from Singapore. An undergraduate taking my Bachelor of arts with honours in Interior Design.

Where did your interest to be a retail and hospitality designer come from?

Well, I guess pretty much a big influence from my dad since young to become a designer. And well the term towards retail and hospitality leads me to a wider choice of interior varieties such as retail, hotels, f&b, homes, etc. Hence, my choice to be a retail and hospitality designer.

Which is the project you are proudest of so far?

I guess it would be the Final Year Project during my Poly days.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging at the age of 16.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

Able to share and blog down my travel logs. I always believe in “Taking care of all your memories, for you cannot relive them. There is real value in sharing moments that don’t live forever.”

Where have you been on a holiday that is absolutely memorable?

I guess holidays are meant to be memorable and definitely traveling around UK/Europe and to Krabi were my absolute memorable ones!

If you had the chance to learn anything in this world, what will it be?

To be able to speak all kinds of languages, all over the world.

Which movie character best represents you?

Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games, the determination to succeed.

One fun fact about yourself not usually known?

I hate the colour pink!

Craziest thing you’ve done?

Standing at the edge of some steep rock that oversees the see in Isle of Skye.

Sexy is soul. Sexy is accepting and loving yourself exactly as you are, sexy is daring to speak and live your truth as honestly as possible, sexy is when you are living for a purpose bigger than yourself.

Hi my name is Regina, I’m 20 this year and I’m from Singapore. I run an online store selling ladies apparels, accessories and shoes.

How will you describe your fashion style?

I’ll describe myself as versatile. I don’t have a particular exact style I follow because I love trying out new styles! I love wild and loud looking styles and at the same time I appreciate the feminine ladylike dresses too.

What’s the sexiest thing in your wardrobe?

It’ll be my crochet bralets that I have in black and white, they’re really sexy cause they are a little translucent that reveals the little lace details.

Are you more of an introvert or extrovert?

I’m more of an extrovert. I’m a pretty noisy person.

What’s one overrated fashion accessory?

I think to me it’ll be the neon bags/accessories period. I think it’s too overrated.

Give one example of a fashion disaster you have laid your eyes on.

I used to love pairing everything I wear with translucent stockings that tears every time when I wear it…. Could still remember how trendy it was in the past… looking back it’s really a fashion disaster, oh no 🙁

If you had the chance to learn anything in this world, what will it be?

I would want to have the skills of a lawyer. I really love how they could debate and really fight for their client with different evidences and theories to prove the case wrong.

Which movie character best represents you?

At the moment.. I think, AGNES from despicable me!! Her rollercoaster emotions and extreme excitement on things!

One fun fact about yourself not usually known?

I’m socially awkward. If I’m in a social event with too many people I have not met before, I’ll try to stay low at a corner alone. It’ll usually take me a while to get familiar with people.

Craziest thing you’ve done and not regret?

Entering the casino when I was 16 and made my own $100 there!

What’s sexy to you?

Interview with model and talent Elaine Loh

Who is Elaine Loh?

My name is Elaine, I am 19 this year and I live and was born in Singapore. Currently a student studying in a private institution, pursuing Diploma in Business & Law. In my free time I would take up freelance job such as being an event model or taking up some modeling assignments to earn some “quick cash”.

Your most memorable highlight or achievement so far?

Stopped raising my hands for pocket money from my parents since I was 14/15 years old is the most memorable highlight so far, the next will be my upcoming project!

What is your favourite past time ?

Scrolling through Carousell (a platform where people buy and sell their items on) and reading Archie comics recently is my current favourite past time.

Most embarrassing thing you’ve experienced?

I suppose that the most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced is when I thought I am as small as a size ‘xs’ and struggled to try the pants in ‘xs’ at the store’s fitting room telling the retail assistant that I am fine.

Three things you can’t live without?

The three things I cannot live without are my selfie camera, my make-ups and FOOD!!

If you had the chance to time travel, past or present, where will it be?

If I had the chance to time travel, it would most definitely be in the present. I believe that whatever that had happened in the past shall stay as a past and most definitely happened for a reason.

Do you have a preferred side when taking selfies?

Yes, just like most girls do. My most preferred side would be the left side of my face when taking selfies.

What’s the sexiest thing in your wardrobe?

Some lacey thongs and lingerie from LaSenza!

Your favourite body part?

My favourite body part in a general question will be the thigh and the butt. However, chest for guys. Haha!

What’s sexy to you?

Sexy to me is someone having this strong character and the kind that does not bare skin to be labeled as sexy.

Piano Teacher and Blogger Melody Tan

I’m Melody from Singapore, I’m actually a full time Financial Planner and working part time as a Piano Teacher! Blogging has been a hobby that I started 4 years back and along the way I picked up certain sponsorships. Fashion was something I started having interest in over the past 3 years. Food has been my lifelong love.

How did you get started into blogging?

I have always liked the thought of sharing experiences to people who can relate to them.

For example, travel posts are my extreme favs, and I take really long to craft out my DIY itineraries when I go abroad so I could find the less typical tourist spots and guide readers on getting around there so they don’t have to keep googling for directions before the trip!

It’s very competitive being a blogger, so what do you do to stand out from the rest?

I am not aiming to “stand out from the rest” but rather just having a voice amongst those who can relate to my thoughts!

Where do you usually shop?

Over the past 2 to 3 years I’ve been pretty much getting 95% of my clothes online, be it through the Carousell app, or shipping it from China, US, etc.
I don’t buy really expensive items cause I have too many clothes to wear them more than once usually!

What’s the most expensive item you have splurged on?

That has got to be on my camera cause I really love photography.

Do you have the urge to critic someone’s dress style if you see that it is a fashion catastrophe?

I believe people dress up for various reasons, be it for comfort on that day, or they are trying to stand out from the crowd, or they are trying out a new style.

I don’t think I have any rights to tell someone what they should be wearing. Not saying that I don’t judge but there isn’t a need to make someone feel insecure!

What guilty indulgences do you have for food?

I used to eat ice cream like thrice a day?! Sometimes when I’m really stressed out at work I could eat 2 lunches, 2 dinners and all kinds of snacks. Not a good habit I know~

Where are some recommended food spots our readers can go when visiting Singapore?

I find it really had to think of authentic and really good food places in Singapore these days cause it’s all being taken over by food chains mostly, but if it’s your first time here I think Punggol Nasi Lemak (238 Tanjong Katong Rd, Singapore 437026), Katong Laksa (53 E Coast Rd, Singapore 428771) could be put to consideration.

For convenience sake you could just go to Newton Circus Food Centre to comb all the hawker food stalls! Apparently they are open till 2am so it could make a night supper spot for tourists.

Are you a morning person or night owl?

Night owl for sure, I think everyone around me already knows that! I get really grumpy in the morning and I work so much better at night.

Funniest thing you’ve done or experienced?

Eating a spider in Cambodia. Or the Balut (developing duck embryo) in Philippines. Or fried worms in China when I was too young to remember thankfully.

What’s sexy to you?

Confidence + the drive in a guy to strive for what they want + intelligence.

I’ll be doing a few shoots that I’ve yet to update on my blog and several collaborations.

The most challenging is the writing skills and number of followers as this will affect the number of readers who will appreciate your stories.

Which are some common misconceptions you hear about bloggers?

Bloggers get free stuff all the time

Typically it seems to be free but to clear things up, when we receive products for review, this should not be considered free. We have a moral and legal obligation when it comes to sponsored gifts, so receiving gifts is actually a hassle. We work hard because we are morally obligated to our readers and we have to make sure we don’t offend anyone.

Bloggers make a lot of easy money.

We don’t make money easy, it’s just similar as being a sales or insurance person. With only hard work you will earn more, otherwise you earn less.

As soon as you start blogging, readers will come out of nowhere

Readers don’t come easy for us. As a reader, what do you usually look for? That will be the answer.

What made you decide to join the Miss Singapore Beauty Pageant?

Pageants have their age limit. Somehow it hit me to join the pageant since I am 23 already. Apart from that, to gain experience and network with new people.

How was the experience like for you at MSBP?

Both good and bad. I shall not share the bad experiences. What I have gained is that being in a pageant is not easy. However I get to learn many things such as how to present yourself while meeting clients. I get to meet real friends in the pageant. Time management is also a component. It is definitely a good one, you will only get to experience that here and not elsewhere.

Do you have a travel bucket list?

Yes I do.

If you had the choice for any superpower, what will it be and why?

Time Manipulation – with the power of time manipulation, good times would last longer with this convenient superpower. Time will be more than enough.

Are you more of a party girl or stay home girl.

Back then in my 18 to 21 years, I was a party girl. It’s never a business where I get to enjoy every day without troubling. After turning 21, I am a stay home girl where I spend more time resting at home and spending time with my family.

What guilty indulgences do you have for food?

Fast food.

Funniest thing you’ve done or experienced?

Making a joke out of myself in front of my parents, to make them smile.

What’s sexy to you?

Sexy is self-confident. Being real, to have a real heart. Love others wholeheartedly. Enjoy the things you do.

Beauty baker Erika shares her wonderful desserts

SimplySxy catches up with Erika as we ask this lovely baker on her favourite creations, dessert inspirations and how her love for baking began.

Hi Erika, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Please share with us a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi! I’m a baking blogger from Singapore who creates unique desserts. I share the recipes on www.sumopocky.com. Baking is my therapy and I find peace one recipe at a time. Was it tough at the beginning when you started baking for the first time or did it come naturally to you?

I embarked on this baking journey by learning how to make macarons. It was an ambitious choice of dessert for a beginner with close to zero experience. While I had to go through multiple batches of failed macarons, my first successful batch marked the launch of my baking endeavours.

In retrospect, the failures were beneficial in setting my foundations of basic baking techniques. From then on, it was much easier to approach other recipes. Over time, I’ve become more adventurous in trying out or creating new recipes. Now and then, I still experience failures in the kitchen. But that is fine! It is part and parcel and helps me to grow as a baker.

Who gets to try and critique your desserts when you first make them?

My friends and family are often the first to get a taste of my desserts. Based on their highly valued feedback, improvements are made to each recipe before it is published on Sumopocky. P.S. They are also kind enough to devour my less than pretty failed desserts, because ugly desserts need loving too!

Where do you get your inspiration behind all those beautiful desserts?

Inspiration comes from a non-exhaustive list of sources – from fellow bakers online, to gourmet magazines, to trips to bakeries and patisseries. Sometimes, inspiration strikes from the most unexpected places such as nature, the city skyline, a piece of art, a beautiful film, or even a well-written novel.

Which are 3 of your all time proudest creations?

The top 3 of my all time favourite original creations have to be my Totoro Black Sesame Chiffon Cake, Alpaca Macarons and Tsum Tsum Mooncakes. I love how unique and adorable they are, and most importantly, their tastes leave me craving for more!

Do you have any other hobbies?

When I’m not in the kitchen, I’m knee deep in thought-provoking novels and films. I spend hours wandering in the fictional universes created by my favourite author, Haruki Murakami. Films by brilliant directors from the likes of Michel Gondry and Wes Anderson also keep me hooked to the screen. And whenever a book or film impacts me deeply, I have the natural compulsion to share my book and movie reviews on Sumopocky.

What guilty pleasures do you have for food?

I cannot resist desserts with dark chocolate, cheese, matcha green tea and berries. My guilty pleasures include macarons, lava cakes, cheesecakes, tiramisu, and probably any Japanese dessert.

If you had the chance to meet anyone past or present, who will it be?

I will like to meet Haruki Murakami. From his books, he appears to be such a chill yet knowledgeable and opinionated guy. Thus, it’d be nice to spend a day chilling with him and having conversations about anything under the umbrella of life.

Hi Abby, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Please share with us a little about yourself and where you’re from?

I’m a freelance talent and model, majoring in Psychology and Marketing. I like to have fun and am a very easy going person, happiness is not measured by having more money and striving for a higher position in society. I am actually half Thai and half Singaporean, 20 this year and I’m very into horoscopes! I’m a Leo cusp Virgo(have characteristic of both signs).

What are the best perks about being a model?

I would say that the money comes pretty easy and also as a rather vain person, I like that I have increased my confidence as well as constantly trying to improve myself. You experience and see a lot of things that a normal job wouldn’t allow you to, but it is important to keep your grounds. All in all, I feel I grew much better as a person after being in this industry.

Has there been an embarrassing or funny moment you’ve experienced or seen at one of your modelling events?

The usual lipstick on teeth moment where you have been working for quite awhile before someone tells you.

What’s your secret to looking so gorgeous?

I think vanity plays a huge part and constantly trying to find ways and methods to be “perfect”. But also, girls should love themselves more and not compare themselves, because it would show in your confidence and self esteem.

If you were given the choice of one superpower, which will it be and why?

I would like the power of teleportation! I am a very lazy person so I am constantly rushing most of the time(because I LOVE to sleep), so this power would be a major help to me!

Do you have any hobbies?

Reading! Ever since I was young my Mum and Dad have a huge influence on me as well and I have books everywhere in my house.

What is one clothing you love the most in your wardrobe?

Long cardigans because its light and soft and also sometimes when I wear something revealing and get cold it’s always there for me.

Which is your favorite body part?

Probably my high cheekbones or sharp chin.

Hi Cassandra, thank you very much for your time taken to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Can you share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

I’m a Student Care Teacher by day, a fashion blogger by night. I’ve always have big affection for fashion especially the styling part from mix and matching to putting together different looks with the same piece of clothing. I don’t believe in just wearing it once. I do beauty post as well and so I review with honesty because that’s what I would want to know when looking for reviews myself.

Where did your interest to start blogging come from?

It was actually through the encouragement of a blogger friend Ena and as I’ve continue my blogger journey, I’m thankful to meet many genuine blogger such as June who have help me along the way.

What are the challenges you face to maintaining your blog?

I was hoping for more fashion content but I’ve much more beauty opportunity hence I’m still working hard to increase my fashion content.

Keeping it short and sweet is not easy as well especially comes to beauty products, you want to be as informative as possible but at the same time without looking like you’re typing an essay.

In terms of technical wise, I’ve also been thinking of upping my game for my blog as I am still looking for a good investment that I can trust to help with changing up the look/setup of my blog.

H&M, Charles & Keith, New Look, Zalora and so many more!!!

If you had the chance to time travel, where will you choose to go?

Maybe to see how current big brand started such as Chanel, Prada or even LV. We all know that success does not happen instantly so I figure it may be fun to be able to hop back in time and get firsthand view of how it all started.

Do you have any phobias?

No I guess, not that I can think of.

Are you more of a night owl or morning person?

Night owl hands down! I sleep at 2am everyday! Hahaha *waving goodbye to beauty sleep*

What was the funniest or most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

I once spat water right at a classmate after sipping because he was pronouncing a name wrongly on a book. Felt embarrassed but everyone around him laugh it off.
