Influencer & Entrepreneur Lynette Huey

Hello everyone who is reading this! I’m Lynette, 21 years old this year, a Malaysian Chinese. I’m currently a university student pursuing my Degree in Veterinary Medicine overseas. Still in my third year of degree, and will be graduating in another three years.

What inspires your fashion style and where do you love to shop from?

I love getting ideas and inspiration from other KOLs and models as they have really good taste regarding fashion wears, as well as some of my friends. Not quite sure how other people think of this but I do always ask for my mother’s opinion too. My mother has a great sense of fashion and she is very stylish. Some of her clothes are even better than mine and yes, I’ll take her clothes to wear at times.

Usually, I’m more towards the cool styles than the elegant styles. However, I do try on different fashion styles to see if I can handle them well. Lately, I’m trying for sweet looking instead. I get my clothes from a variety of sources including Shopee! I was afraid of online shopping for clothes because the sizes, materials, and cuttings are very unpredictable. Since the pandemic has begun, I have lesser opportunities to go shopping so I tried out online shopping and found some likeable dresses. Despite some that came with S size but are still too big for me, they are actually quite acceptable.

Before online shopping, I get my outfits from stores like H&M, Mirrorcle, Forever 21, MPSY, etc., personally preferring Korean clothing stores.

Do you follow any beauty regime regularly?

Basic: Facial cleanser is a MUST. I couldn’t imagine myself without facial cleanser. Well, I do apply toner and moisturizer day and night but I get lazy or sometimes even forgot about it hahaha. Also, I don’t like the sticky sensation on my face with my specs gliding down the whole time. Usually, I’ll apply light soothing gel in the day, only applying moisturizer at night.

Another routine that I do is applying facial masks. I love putting on facial masks and sitting back to relax at night. People who know me definitely see me as the ‘Mask Queen’ as I always post my mask-time to my IG story. Once in a few weeks, I’ll have my face scrubbed to exfoliate my skin. A lot of girls apply sunscreen before going out, and I do understand that is to protect our skin from UV ray but I don’t have that habit and always forget about it. I got some lectures from my friends for not applying sunscreen though hahah. I’m still trying to change that.

I don’t make up a lot even though I have most of the cosmetic stuffs with me. The most acceptable parts for me are lipsticks and eye makeup, for frequent usage.

Which cuisine or type of food do you like most?

I love all types of cuisine to be honest. I love Chinese food, Malay food, Indian food, Japanese food, Western food, Korean food, etc. One of my favorites is Sambal Petai with squid! Many people do not like the pungent smell of Petai but that is exactly what I love about it. For me, my mom cooks the best Sambal Petai, I can’t find any restaurants having this dish cooked as delicious as my mother’s.

I love salmon sashimi if you’re asking me about Japanese food. I can have tons of them if I’m given the opportunities. Sushi and Temaki work great for me as well. Soft shell crab handroll is the best oh my god. It’s been a long while since I last had it. I can be picky at food, like I only prefer carbonara spaghetti and don’t accept Bolognese.

I’m a dessert person because I love sweet stuffs a lot. Cotton candy is one of my favorites, even the ice cream flavor in Baskin Robbin I’ll choose their cotton candy flavor. Macarons, chocolate chip cookies, yoghurt ice cream, cheese cakes, apple pies, damn I’m starving already. Anyway, coming home to the smell of home-cooked food wins any other outside food.

If you could time travel, what will you like to witness or change?

I believe in fate and that everything is going on like how it should be. Everything happens for a reason. If it’s good, it’s good; if it’s bad, it’s an experience, just do your best in the present. Don’t call me a philosopher alright, I’m just always holding the positive vibes in me ahha. Anyway, I would still love to travel back to the old days to have some memory flashbacks, and might as well travel into the future to see what’s going to happen to me, to the people I care, to everyone.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or learn but yet to find the time for it?

I have a lot of interests in almost everything. Okay that’s a bit exaggerating but I do have many hobbies. Piano is my instrument, with guitar and ukulele as the side instruments. I was planning to get my diving license and do my internship in Sabah Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre in June or July 2020. However, the pandemic messed up the plans so they’re still in my pending. I’ve written my to-do-lists in my planner, hopefully to achieve them one day.

I wanna have a backpack tour with one or two friends around Asia, that’s when I’m allowed hahah. The urge to travel is so strong watching the different countries from dramas, documentaries, or even my reference books. One of the countries I would love to travel to is Holland, getting the urge from this Hong Kong drama named ‘Blue Veins’. Travelling needs time and money at which I do not have yet. Also, going to Africa for an internship or work is included. You have no idea how much I wish I was there whenever I watch documentaries of wild animals in Africa. Hyenas, African Wild Dogs, Lions, Jaguars, too fascinating. I’m a veterinary medicine student if you’re wondering why do I have things so much related to animals.

Coming back to my short-term to-do-list, I would like to learn aerial yoga, to be the volunteer of Sea Turtle Research Unit in Terengganu, to have dance classes from any proper dance studio (Yea, I never get to learn modern dances from studio, all self-learnt only, but I love dancing). Too many things to learn, too many things undone.

On a scale of 1-10, how much of a superstitious person are you?

I guess I would say a 7. I’m a Buddhist, grown up in a quite superstitious family. I believe in god, spirits, as well as ghosts LOL. I’m scared of ghosts okay.. I’m not the type of person that believes too much in ‘FengShui’ or ‘Pantang’ (my parents do hahahah) but I give my respect to god statues or pictures, scriptures, as well as the rules in temples, you know, like removing my cap before entering the temple, or not to point at god statues with the pointing finger but your thumb.

My parents actually spent money to get our entire family’s Chinese names changed, including mine. Personally, I do not like my new Chinese name and prefer the old one so I would just introduce myself as Lynette instead.

What do you not understand about guys?

It really depends on the character and personality. Guys can be complicated at times, or I should say humans can be complicated in fact. I’m not that good at determining the intention of a person, that I need to seek for opinions from the others. I often think that one’s approach is just casual and unintentional but they will end up to be something else that I didn’t believe before.

This actually applies to both girls and guys though. My friends say I’m a unicellular creature because I hardly realize what is actually going on. I don’t understand the signals sometimes or I just missed it and didn’t get it at all. Whether it’s about relationship or social signals, I’m weak at both.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Lynette. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

When the word sexy comes into the mind, pretty sure many would think of outfits that are revealing. I would define sexy based on both the physical appearance as well as the personality of that person. Confidence often makes one to look better and sexier.

Besides, attitudes can really change how a person looks like. For me, I find sporty and kind-hearted guys more charming and attractive. For instance, looking at a guy that does not like animals, or a guy that loves animals, the second one wins.
