Pink Dot 2015: Reflecting on Where Love Lives

More than 28,000 people gathered at Hong Lim Park to celebrate the freedom to love at Pink Dot 2015 last Saturday. The success of the event was due to the massive support from the public as well as local business and corporate sponsors. Twitter, Bloomberg and Cathay Organisation joined the returning sponsors Google, Barclays, Goldman Sachs, BP, J.P. Morgan and The Gunnery. Local shops and outlets such as Settler’s Café, Elevate Gym, Asia Wine Network and D’Bell Singapore threw on their pink hats to form a new ‘Pink Street’ where people could enjoy drinks, food, make friends, and purchase Pink Dot merchandise.

During the press conference, there was a discussion on the verdict by the Court of Appeal rejecting the constitutional challenges to Section 377A of the Penal Code in October 2014, which criminalises physical intimacy between men. Local artist and Pink Dot’s 2015 ambassador Patricia Mok shared her interactions and experiences with families with a queer family member. She mentioned that many older generations whom she has interacted with believe that love is love and people should be left alone with their choice on who to love. Radical religious groups aside, why is the large amount of support that we are seeing contradictory to the claims by the state that Singapore is not ready for the LBGTQ community.

This contradiction had me wondering if the state is indeed ready. Hirzi; one-half of YouTube comedic duo Munah & Hirzi and Pink Dot’s 2015 ambassador, mentioned that they have met many LGBTQ youths during a YouTube FanFest. From these interactions and his own personal experience, he felt that schools do not have the support infrastructure to help LGBTQ youths cope with the challenges of the queer adolescence. Other segments of the state like Health Promotion Board (HPB) is also feeling the pinch, having faced criticism over their FAQ on sexuality in February of 2014. Having Section 377A active makes it difficult to create cohesive polices or campaigns as segments of the Singapore community has to be intentionally left out.

    DSC_1319

It was also revealed during the press conference that a 15-second pre-event advertisement for Pink Dot that was meant to be screened in cinemas on Friday, June 12, was refused a rating by the MDA (Media Development Authority Singapore) after a two-month wait, effectively banning it. The MDA cited the reason that “it is not in the public interest to allow cinema halls to carry advertising on LGBT issues, whether they are advocating for the cause, or against the cause.” It took some time for everyone at the press conference to make sense of MDA’s statement as the said advertisement was just a clip of Pink Dot’s light up with the date of this year’s event. However, the reason does make sense. If they were to allow ads that support the LGBTQ cause, then conversely they should also allow ads that are against LGBTQ cause. This would then add to the complication simply because there is no anti-discrimination law against the LGBTQ community.

There is a need to prevent hate crimes towards the LGBTQ community in Singapore especially with the recent online attacks towards The Chiongs; a lesbian couple raising their daughter in Singapore. To abolish 377A and to pass an anti-discrimination law is a definitely not an easy task for the state. Due to these gaps the Singaporean community has organically grown; with Pink Dot having its biggest turn out to date, together with the growing numbers of LGBTQ support groups.

    DSC_1336

In spite of the record breaking turnout for this year’s event, there is still a need for a better understanding of the Pink Community. In the words of Pink Dot SG Spokesperson Paerin Choa, “We recognise that the journey towards inclusivity and diversity in Singapore is still some way off, but we are confident that we will be able to achieve this together, one day in the near future.”

  • Mistress Anja from Singapore shares her expertise on Anal Fisting

Mistress Anja from Singapore shares her expertise on Anal Fisting

Anal fisting is one of the most fascinating sexual activities involving penetration. Also known in other terms as handballing and fist-fucking, anal fisting has generated a lot of buzz among the kink community as a popular fetish. Mistress Anja, a skilled dominatrix from South East Asia, Singapore, shares with us her expertise and views on the topic of anal fisting.

    What constitutes anal fisting?

The height of depravity in mainstream society, where an entire fist is inserted into the rectum. Unlike the name suggests, fisting does not usually involve clenching the hand into a fist and forcing it into the rectum. Instead, the most common technique is to hold one’s hands flat, fingers close together with the thumb and last finger under the other fingers, resembling a duck bill. This can be performed with a partner, as well as a solo activity.

How popular are anal fisting sessions and how often do you get the requests?

More popular than you think! It is a quite a dark, potent fantasy that many people have, but are unable to act out. Going to a professional is a appropriate outlet for it. I’d have 4-5 fisting sessions a week.

What preparation do you do when there is fisting involved?

Preparation would involve mainly plastic sheeting, and a kitchen roll on hand. Always be prepared for the mess, especially when you know your hands will be full after. The main play would involve plugs, glass beads, condoms, lots of lubricant (i prefer silicone based and numbing), short latex gloves and opera length latex gloves.

Describe a typical process of fisting play one can expect from you?

Fisting in a session with me will be done in gradual stages. Erotic exercises through glass beads, electric plugs, then the widening of the anus with fingers, one by one with a slow thrust and slide technique, until the sphincter is stretched well enough to accommodate the ‘duck-bill’. This however, can rarely be achieved in one session and is done over the course of a few sessions. Relaxing music and vasodilators like alcohol help greatly.

How is fisting used as a punishment in the context of BDSM?

We seldom see fisting as punishment, but more of an erotic activity that stimulates both the mental and physical self. The peak of eroticism, where your legs are spread in front of a beautiful girl, grabbing your ankles as she commands, and her arms are clad in well greased shiny black latex, as she gently spreads you wider and wider, the feeling of being stretched, coupled with gentle temperature change of the slippery in/out movements.. Darling, that’s a reward.

What are some precautions to ensure safe fisting especially if trying at home?

Never force anything if the body is not willing. Do not continue if you notice the presence of blood, the extent of internal damage is not easy to determine so stop at any early signs. Comfort and safety always comes first.

  • Gorgeous Singapore nude model Cheryl Choe

Gorgeous Singapore nude model Cheryl Choe

Confident, sexy and perfectly at ease with her body, Chery Choe hails from the sunny island of Singapore.  We talk to her about being a nude model, the stories behind her tattoos and find out her favourite drink of choice.

SimplySxy: Hi Cheryl, it’s a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Can you tell us a little about yourself and where you’re from.

Cheryl: Hi! Im Cheryl, turning 25 this October. I’m from Singapore. I went to Perth, Australia for two and a half years ago for studies and just got back recently in January. I love music, art, fishing and I’m a bartender.

    5

SimplySxy: How did you begin into modelling?

Cheryl: I guess it’s almost every girls dream to be a model. I remembered when I was 18, my girlfriend and I were trying to find some opportunities online and chanced upon this studio and they hired new models and trained them so they could hire them for their photography workshop. That’s how I got into it.

    11

SimplySxy: You do nude modelling as part of your repertoire.  What do you like most about it?

Cheryl: I believe that the human body is such a beautiful thing/object. Nude photography is something so simple yet so amazing. There’s no heavy makeup, or designer dresses on that body but still it’s able to bring out such an elegant feel. Doing nude modelling makes me believe that a naked body doesn’t mean being a sex object. Photographers that shoot nude models couldn’t least care about that sex appeal, all they want is to capture that beautiful moment. Also, it definitely pays well 😛

    2

SimplySxy: Being in Singapore, which is still a largely conservative society, how was the reaction like from those who know you when you started nude modelling?

Cheryl: Most people are very supportive and they see nothing wrong with it, whereas some people think that I strip for money and refer to me as “cheapskate”. Until today, I still receive random messages here and there calling me a slut.

    3

SimplySxy: What is the sexiest part of your body?

Cheryl: I don’t think I’m sexy in the first place but if I were to choose, I would say, my legs? They are not too flabby. If only they were longer though. Haha.

    10

SimplySxy: You have a few amazing tattoos which we love! Which is your favourite and what is the story behind it?

Cheryl: I have 3 tattoos at the moment. My back tattoo has roman numerals of my dad, mum and sister’s birthdays. My arm has a snake and dragon as mum’s born in the year of snake and dad’s born in the year of the dragon. The smallest tattoo I have is on the left side of my rib, it says “love thyself” but in a mirrored version. So only I can see it spelled right if I stand in front of the mirror. I got it last year after a breakup. The story behind it was because I had a rough time in 2014 back in Perth, I was down with mild depression, stressed over work, school, health and relationship and everything in general. I had to visit the doctor, and had regular counseling sessions. I was alone, I didn’t have many friends there and depended a lot on my boyfriend. To top things off, let’s just say we had a bad breakup and things got even worse.  I became very self-conscious, my confidence and self-esteem lowered tremendously. So I decided to get the tattoo, to remind myself everyday that I should love myself.

    4

SimplySxy: You have stated that your dream is to run your own fashion show.  How will you describe your fashion style?

Cheryl: I don’t really have a fashion style. I hate to dress up, so if I’m not going on a date, or for photo shoots, I don’t really give a crap about what I wear.  Shorts and t-shirt best describe me. But I do like dolling up and wearing high heels but I haven’t done that for awhile since I sprained my ankle last year and it still hasn’t healed properly (I was drunk on a trampoline if you gonna ask how! LOL).

    9

SimplySxy: What is your cocktail or alcohol of choice?

Cheryl: I usually drink Negroni, or something more to a bitter side of cocktail if I’m in a cocktail bar. Otherwise I’d order a Whiskey, on the rocks.

    8

SimplySxy: Is there any motto you live life by?

Cheryl: Persevere, Persevere, Persevere.  It’s actually the motto of my “already closed-down” secondary school, Ghim Moh Secondary School.

    6

SimplySxy: Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to interview you and before we end, tell us your definition of “sexy”?

Cheryl: My definition of sexy is as long as you feel content with yourself. You’ll be beautiful. And being beautiful is a very sexy thing.

  • Babe of the day: Hannah Lee

Babe of the day: Hannah Lee

    Who is Hannah Lee?

I am from the tiny red dot Singapore. Currently I am an entrepreneur of my little online store, and from time to time enjoy taking on photo shoot projects and collaborations. (Oh no, I am not a model, just a talent that really loves photography and being the topic in it.) I think it has been an amazing and honourable journey to be able to work with different MUAs/wardrobe designers, photographers and hairstylists from various countries.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?

I am an Extreme-ist. I would say for example;  I can be as crazily and hyped in a party but on the other hand, I like to be left at a cafe with some nice desserts and a book.

    What turns you on?

Umm, you know guys who have both lines on the waist or hip? And wearing Calvin Klein boxers. Okay, that turns me on definitely! Chop Chop!

    3

    Craziest thing you’ve done?

Okay, I guess the crazy thing I thought of would be back in my secondary school days. It was so crazy, I actually left home with my group of girls clique and we literally didn’t go home for several days, all while in our school uniform. One of the days we were actually soaked with sea water because we went to Sentosa to play and we stayed overnight in the playground.

    Favourite drink?

I would say plain water? Most of my friends call me a water bufflo because I can drink about three litres plus a day. And water is something that cures me from popping pimples and best of all, it is not even fattening and I am not a big fan of sweets.

    Spit or swallow?

I would definitely choose to spit. Never allow myself to swallow something that I know myself is disgusting, smelly, or tastes weird. Definitely not going to spoil my stomach like that! Hahahah.

    2

Sweet, Salty or a little bit of both?

A little bit of both definitely, if you cant have the best of both worlds entirely, then the bits of both worlds is awesome.

Which movie character best represents you?

Princess Fiona from Shrek. Because of her bravery at times and standing up for her rights! (Laughs)

    Worst rejection you’ve faced?

Worst rejection probably would be from one of those days when I was still studying fashion design. My lecturer actually failed me five times on my sewing modules and even told me that if the shirt I made was selling on shelves, he would not even bother to take one look.

    4

    Must have in your wardrobe?

Deodorants. (HAHAHAHA)  Nooo, dont get me wrong. I dont have BO in particular. But I don’t wish to smell stinky in any way at occasions or even events. No perfume to me is fine, as long as I smell good throughout the day which is the best thing already.

    What’s sexy to you?

Sexy to me is about having that red hot lipstick and that eye and facial expression. I always feel that our eyes talk a lot, especially when I am taking a lingerie or an Artistic Implied shoot, it is not just about the poses but also about the eyes and facial expressions.

  • Rubbers – Singapore’s Funniest Sex Comedy

Rubbers – Singapore’s Funniest Sex Comedy

Singapore’s funniest sex comedy Rubbers opens in cinemas this 30th April.  Directed by Han Yew Kwang, who has filmed shows such as 18 Grams of Love and When Hainan meets Teochew previously, and starring artistes such as Yeo Yann Yann and Alaric Tay.  Comprising of 3 short stories centering around the main topic of condoms, Rubbers promises to bring lots of laughs and sex to its audience, including the underlying message of practicing safe sex with condoms.  SimplySxy has the pleasure of asking director Han Yew Kwang a few questions on his latest film.

SimplySxy: Hey Yew Kwang, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions and congratulations on the upcoming official release of your latest film Rubbers. Please tell us a little about what viewers can expect when they catch it?

Yew Kwang: They can expect lots of laughs, lust and life (人生) in this film.

    1

SimplySxy: We love the film’s choice of name Rubbers which is apt and direct. What was the inspiration behind the film?

Yew Kwang: We had this spy vs spy story in 2009, whereby a condom brand called RELAX sends a spy to their rival company called DURABLE and vice versa. The 2 spies fell in love eventually and started a new brand called DUREX. As we further developed the story, gathered more stories from friends and did more research about condoms, it evolved into Rubbers.

SimplySxy: Is there any message or messages you wish to bring across to viewers through Rubbers?

Yew Kwang: I don’t have a formal message. I simply want the audience to laugh, have fun and have sex… wearing condoms.

    2

SimplySxy: As Singapore is still largely conservative, did the thought of how the public will react cross your mind during the planning and production of Rubbers?

Yew Kwang: Yes, there is a scene whereby Julian Hee puts on a luminous condom to provide lights for the frightened Yeo Yann Yann during a blackout. At first, we were afraid that some audience might find it offensive or inappropriate. We thought of having him put the condom on his hammer or finger. But in the end, we trusted our instinct and went ahead with the original idea.

SimplySxy: What is your view towards the topic of sex being talked about and discussed openly in Singapore?

Yew Kwang: Sex is an adult’s habit and hobby. If we can discuss about our hobbies and habits in public, we should talk sex.

    3

SimplySxy: How does Rubbers rank among your other films such as Unarmed Combat and When Hainan Meets Teochew?

Yew Kwang: I think Rubbers is my most accessible film.

SimplySxy: Thank you for the interview Yew Kwang and we’ll certainly be catching Rubbers and wish it all the best! One last question, how do you define “sexy”?

Yew Kwang: Sexy is anything that can make you sexually creative and your erotic imagination run wild.

    4

Rubbers will be released in Singapore on 30th April.  Be sure to catch it at the cinema near you!

  • Sukki Singapora – The World’s First Burlesque Artist from Singapore

Sukki Singapora – The World’s First Burlesque Artist from Singapore

Sukki Singapora, the first international burlesque performer from Singapore, is a global star who has performed in world class shows around the world.  She has been recognised for her efforts and achievements worldwide, having been nominated for London’s Asian Women of Achievement Awards for being a role model to all Asian women and men in the Arts scene.  Sukki has been featured on FHM India and Esquire Magazine, and was the first ever Burlesque performer to receive a Royal Invitation to Buckingham Palace.  SimplySxy takes this unique opportunity to interview Sukki on her amazing costumes, her role as the founder of The Singapore Burlesque Club and the Sexhibition cinema commercial.

SimplySxy: Hi Sukki, we are really pleased to have you on SimplySxy. We have watched a number of your splendid performances on YouTube and are intrigued by the eclectic mix of indie Bollywood that you have injected into the classic Hollywood glamour that is synonymous to burlesque acts. Who and where do you draw your inspiration from?

Sukki: When I first found out about burlesque, it was via the old American stars—as Asian burlesque performers were few and far between!—so much of my inspiration came from that old style “bump and grind.” However being the first burlesque performer from Singapore, I felt it was important to portray my heritage in my acts, and pay homage to Bollywood and Chinese performers such as Barbara Yung, so as time went on I began to develop my own style. Much of my inspiration comes from my cultural upbringing—I literally wear my heart on my sleeve when it comes to my costumes!

    My Boudoir Sukki Singapora AA

SimplySxy: You have some of the most amazing stage costumes! Do you work exclusively with any designers in particular?

Sukki: Every stage costume starts with an idea or an emotion which I turn into a sketch on paper. I draw out how I imagine the pieces to look like, and then work with different people to help turn those sketches into a reality. Most of my outfits are created with the incredibly talented Kiku Boutique, from the UK, who are the best in the world at turning my dreams into reality!

SimplySxy: What are the common stereotypes in burlesque and in light of your recent victory in legalizing burlesque in Singapore this week, do you think the Asian community in general is ready to accept burlesque as a mainstream performance?

Sukki: I think many people expect every burlesque performance to be a carbon copy of the American style—there’s a stereotypical Hollywood silhouette in burlesque, and as an Asian performer, although I do hark back to traditional burlesque costuming, I like to challenge it, and put my own twist on it. In terms of acceptance, it’s never going to be easy to go up against traditional values and ideas, however I think the more understanding there is for it being an art form, the more countries will follow the example of Singapore this week.

SimplySxy: As the founder of The Singapore Burlesque Club, can you share with us more about it as well as the type of burlesque events and workshops that are conducted?

Sukki: I founded The Singapore Burlesque Society in 2012 when I was approached by many other Singaporean women (and men!) who were interested in burlesque, but were too afraid to try it or didn’t know how to go about it. It started out as a community to support each other creatively, and then workshops and shows were introduced when it grew to become The Singapore Burlesque Club. Until this week, however, full burlesque performances and tuition in Singapore were a legal grey area, and so many of the workshops were conducted in secret or outside of the country by my incredibly brave members—those were some pretty challenging times for me! All of the shows also had to be held internationally, however members and students knew that if ever they wanted to make a career out of burlesque, that the Club would always be there to support Asian burlesque talent.Sukki Singapora burlesque My Boudoir A

SimplySxy: I am sure our readers are very interested in your upcoming projects. Could you share with us some of these and also let us in on the sexhibition cinema commercial?

Sukki: Of course! This August, I’ll be headlining my Henna Diamonds burlesque act at Sexhibition—The Erotic Event of the year—and in the run up to that I’ve just finished filming my debut UK cinema commercial for it which comes out on Friday 13th February. This year I’ll also be returning to New York to co-produce my 3rd annual run of the largest Asian burlesque event in the world, The Asian Burlesque Spectacular on May 30th as well as returning to Singapore for some extremely special events, which I’m both emotional and excited about, I can’t say any more than that! But if you want to see me sooner, I’ll be debuting the first peek of my Henna Diamonds act in London at the Café de Paris on Saturday 21st and 28th February this month, which is going to be my biggest, most elaborate act yet. I can’t wait!

SimplySxy: Burlesque is associated with sexiness, performing hot dance moves with alluring outfits. Do you have any tips for our readers who wish to bring burlesque into the bedroom to spice things up but have no clue how to start?

Sukki: Burlesque is all about body confidence and feeling sexy about you. Instead of thinking what will the other person like? I think it’s important to ask: what do I feel great in? Because at the end of the day, if you feel sexy and confident, then you will exude sexiness.

SimplySxy: One last question before we sign off. How do you define “sexy”?

Sukki: For me sexy is a mindset – feeling confident in your own skin. There’s nothing sexier than a person’s smile when they’re feeling great!

  • Best places I’ve enjoyed a quickie in Singapore

Best places I’ve enjoyed a quickie in Singapore

Some of the best sex I have experienced did not occur on a bed.  I love the passion and fire when I am horny and can dive into sex without having to wait.  Perhaps it is the risk of getting caught, or not needing to engage in foreplay or not wasting time removing each others clothes that makes quickies so exhilarating.  Ever since my maiden voyage of doing it at a dark basement staircase corner of my University faculty late at night on my way back to hall, I am always on the look out for potential quickie spots.

Below are the best places I’ve enjoyed having a quickie most in Singapore and it is based on my experience and personal preference.   If the thought of having sex in some of these places has never crossed your mind, it is time you did so as no one can resist the thrill of doing it outside the bedroom.  Quickies are spontaneous, exciting adventures which will spice up any sex life.  Try it out and I am sure you will feel liberated and proud.  Just be sure not to get caught!

    1 – Disabled toilets

My favourite.  It’s spacious, under-used and often very clean.  I like it that most places have them and there is an added bonus of having a sink to wash-up and mirror to straighten up at the end of it.

    2 – Cars
Being able to drive to secluded areas, away from prying eyes and having privacy to ourselves.  Having sex in the car feels exactly like watching it in the movies.  Fast paced, primal and lots of sweat.

    3 – Cinemas

Pick a movie that has been screening for sometime and watch the earliest show on a weekday for privacy.  Get the couple seats for the space and enjoy making out for the entire duration.  Boy do I miss the days in Uni when I had time on weekdays and tickets were much cheaper.

  • Singaporeans and sex – are they or aren’t they??

Singaporeans aren’t having much sex. No two ways around this – all research done on this topic points towards this conclusion.

Going back a little bit into history to the 2003 Durex Global Sex Survey, Singapore had the lowest sexual frequency in the world, with Singaporeans having sex 96 times a year, with the next two lowest countries being Malaysia (100/yr) and Sweden (102/yr). In the 2005, Singapore’s figure was 73 times a year, with 58% of those surveyed unhappy about their sex lives. Last year, a Straits Times survey found that this sexual frequency had been reduced to an average of 5 times per month – roughly equated to 60 times annually. The respondents were also asked what their ideal frequency was (8 times/month).

Some conclusions can definitely be gathered from these various surveys. Although the parameters around each were different, common themes that come out are that

    1. Singaporean’s aren’t having much sex (and the frequency keeps dropping); and
    2. Singaporeans aren’t satisfied with their sex life (or lack thereof) and want more sex.

Two thoughts stem from these results. First of is why this is so. Why are Singaporeans having so little sex? Why are so many Singaporeans unhappy with their sex lives? Is it a given that these two questions are interlinked, or could they be separate? I’ll think on this, and hopefully you guys reading think on this, and perhaps we’ll deal with this in a separate article.

This is the second thought arising from the results – is this really true? Are Singaporeans really having so little sex? From the multiple surveys cited earlier, it does seem so. But let’s look at some other evidence (these are just the more prominent ones that I can think of).

    1. The underage prostitute and the 51 very rich and powerful men implicated in the saga
    2. Underage Vietnamese prostitutes – I think 9 men were charged for this
    3. Sex for Contracts scandals with top Civil Servant(s) involved
    4. Sex for Grades with a University Law Professor
    5. Multiple cases between teachers and students (don’t we all fantasize about a teacher we had)
    6. Psychiatrist with a married patient

These are all cases from the news. In the course of my professional and personal life, I’ve also come across many people whom I know to be having sex outside their relationships. Therefore it does seem that there’s lots of raunchy stuff going on in Singapore – just not with partners/ spouses.

There are many reasons to explain this, if it is indeed the case.

At this point, let me just say that being morally ambiguous, I make no judgements, nor am I in any position to do so. If I could posit a theory as to why this is so, perhaps it’s because relationships become stale, or specifically, that sex in a relationship becomes stale. I truly believe that couples need to make effort to spice things up in the bedroom in order to rediscover themselves, each other and push the boundaries of what they think they’re comfortable with. Break routines (don’t do the ‘Saturday is bonk-day’ thing), be spontaneous. Try new places, new positions, and you know what – new toys. I truly truly believe that they key to a better sex life is experimentation and adventure – whether or not you’re in a relationship or not. But please, please – remember safe sex, an unwanted pregnancy or a STI really ain’t no fun.
