    Florida Cosplayer Jessica Blais

My inspiration to cosplay started initially when I first got introduced to anime back in 2005-2006. I loved Full Metal Alchemist and Inuyasha and wanted to bring the characters to life, but never knew where or how to start. I didn’t start cosplaying until I got back into anime around 2014-2015.

Which is your most memorable cosplay experience?

One of my most memorable cosplay experiences was back in 2014 when I did my first ever cosplay, which was Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. I didn’t wear a wig or put too much effort into the outfit, nor did I expect to get recognized. Near the end of the convention, someone called out “Katniss Everdeen!” in my direction and it made me feel so validated and excited. That was my first time being recognized as the character I was cosplaying.

Are there any common misconceptions about cosplayers you still hear of?

Oh yes, all the time. A lot of people think that cosplayers just cosplay for attention or to grow an online following, which is not the case at all. I have run into maybe 2 or 3 people EVER that I feel definitely do cosplay for the wrong reasons, but more than 99% of the cosplayers I’ve met cosplay simply because they love it and enjoy doing the hobby.

Do you have any other hobbies?

I am in school and work so I don’t really have much free time, but I do love to travel! Which is one of the things I love most about cosplaying. It enables me to do two of my hobbies at once.

Can you describe a typical day like for yourself?

It all depends on the day. On work days, I usually work second shift so I will wake up around 10:30-11am and get ready for my day, then be at work shortly after and get out late in the night. Sometimes I go into work very early and get out in the afternoon, where I will then work on cosplay or relax at home with my family. I will also squeeze in some homework in whenever I can. On days off, I like to grab lunch with friends or work on cosplay. I also like to go shopping!

If you could have a super power, what will it be?

This is a question I get asked a lot and I always have a difficult time deciding. Maybe the ability to read minds? Or to heal others?

What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

Haha, good question! I get quite a few “weird” messages from males that are trying to start conversation in a provocative way, which I do not welcome at all. I cannot think of a specific instance that jumps out at me, but I do deal with “attempts” on occasion.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Jessica. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I think the sexiest thing a person can be is confident and kind. There are many aspects to the word “sexy” as it is a broad term when you really think about it. Some people may use it to describe physical appearance only, others may use it to describe a person’s mindset or personality.

For me, I use it in conjunction with all aspects of a person. I personally think the sexiest people in the world are the ones that genuinely care for the well being of others, the ones who are not greedy, the ones who wants to see positive change in the world and are actively promoting positivity. On top of those things, if that person is also physically attractive in my eyes, they are Sexy with a capital “S”.

  • Canadian Cosplayer & Model Candice Windfall

Canadian Cosplayer & Model Candice Windfall

Hi and thank you for featuring me! I am often referred to by my costume name of Candice Windfall. I’m a 27 year old  Canadian cosplayer and boudoir model who has a crazy obsession with cats and video games haha.

How is a typical day like for you?

Typical day for me is usually hitting the gym in the morning before work, and after work I’m almost always up until the early hours of the morning working on costumes or shooting new content.

Which video games are your favorites to play?

I am in love with the god of war franchise but currently playing Zelda Breath of the Wild and Stardew Valley .

Where did your inspiration to cosplay come from?

It all started when I went to my first comic convention when I was 11 years old. I saw how much work went into some of the costumes people created, ever since then I have been making costumes and going to conventions every year.

Which is the sexiest item in your wardrobe?

Hands down my black one piece bodysuit, it’s perfect for a night out or a night in haha.

Where can we catch you partying on weekends?

Honestly the party scene was never something I got into but you can probably catch me at the movie theater with my friends for a good night out!

If you could time travel, where will you like to visit?

Probably Japan in the feudal era just to see a different culture and time period would be pretty cool .

What do you find attractive about the opposite sex?

What I find most attractive about a male or female is respect for others and a genuine personality beyond that anyone who has a sense of humor is the most attractive to me.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Candice. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

My definition of sexy is being comfortable in your own skin and not being afraid to be who you are, feeling sexy is a very personal feeling if you feel sexy own it and flaunt it!

  • California Cosplayer & Photographer, Taiga

    California Cosplayer & Photographer, Taiga

Hi everyone, I’m Taiga from San Francisco Bay Area, California. I’ve been a cosplayer and fashion lover for a long time. I’m also a photographer who focuses on portraiture. I enjoy classical music and rhythm games (such as Jubeat, Beatmania etc.) too. It’s my pleasure to get the chance to know everybody here.

How will you describe your fashion style?

It’s a hard question since I’ve been striving to find my own style too. I guess right now my style is more sweet and cute, mixed with a little bit of vintage element. I try to keep my coordination as simple as I can, and I get lots of inspiration from Japanese minimalist styles.

Is there a fashion style or trend that turns you off?

I try to keep an open mind for all kinds of fashion styles and I won’t judge the trend I don’t know too much of. But sometimes I frown upon people who clearly don’t know what’s the best style for them and insist on dressing exactly like their favorite Instagram celebrity. I feel sorry for them because I can see great potential in them if they do a little more research of what’s the best for them. 🙁

Do you have a secret beauty regime to looking so fabulous?

I really hope I do! But there are a few I’d love to share. I sometimes put a little bit of baby oil on my face wash before I put on makeup, it gives you smooth skin especially if you’re dry. Also, drinking some prune juice will help you with a body cleanse, and I do that before my photoshoots. 🙂 Although in the long run I’d say a healthy lifestyle is more important than the makeup. Drink more water, eat less sweets, give yourself a nice and long sleep works better than any facial masks.

What food or drink can you not live without?

Oranges! And orange juice! My love for oranges is real. If I get kidnapped to an orange prison and forced to eat oranges for the rest of my life, I’d be happy to do so.

If you can have a superpower, what will it be?

I think I wanna be like Professor X in X-men, to read people’s minds. I feel like I’m already getting good at this. If I do have this superpower, I shall use this to help more people, maybe like a psychiatrist.

Have you ever been in a funny or embarrassing situation before?

I don’t know about funny but definitely countless times of embarrassing situations. I’m horrible at direction, and there was one time I was having dinner with my friends. After I went to the bathroom, I couldn’t find my seat, and everyone just stared at me wandering around the restaurant looking like an idiot. This has happened at least 3 times.

What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

One time at Anime Expo when I cosplayed as a character, there was a guy trying to take my photos for too many times that I literally ran into him 5 times in 3 hours. He had to come up with an excuse every time he showed up. I almost thought he was a stalker. We later became friends. (I don’t think he likes to see this)

It is a pleasure to feature you Taiga. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I think sexy is the confidence I can see in a woman, who can elegantly show her natural and beautiful female body. It’s something that I wish to have. 😀

  • Utah Cosplayer Zabracus

    Utah Cosplayer Zabracus

My name is Whitney, but I go by Zabracus, pronounced ZAB-RUH-CUSS. Think AbraKadabra. I like to cosplay, go on adventures, play games (particularly Dungeons and Dragons), and play with my Welsh Corgi (dog) Smee. I hail from Salt Lake City, Utah aka the geekiest state in the USA! I’m a paralegal by day and a cosplayer and business woman by night! I love popcorn, wine, beer, and taking long walks through the mountains.

What do you enjoy most about cosplay?

I love the creative release it provides. You can recreate your favorite character, bringing it to life, or you can create your own version of a character. It’s a way to just let go of yourself and create for hours on end. It’s almost therapeutic if you take out all the stress from procrastination and burns from hot glue guns.

How long does it take you to create a costume from scratch?

It really depends on the costume. There are some costumes that I can bust out in about 5 hours-time like my (S)He-Man, or costumes that take months to build like my Saiyan Armor Vegeta. So, it really just depends on how labor intensive the cosplay is.

Are there any characters which you will love to cosplay in the near future?

All of them. But for my sanity and yours, I’ll go with Sauron from Lord of The Rings and a Witch Doctor from Diablo III. Yes, I do in fact mean Sauron, the dark lord in full armor. And as I’ve been playing the Witch Doctor, I’ve fallen in love with the look and style of the character. Both of these characters will be challenging to make (I love a good challenge) and they’ll be an insane amount of fun to portray.

Which fictional character do you wish was real?

All of them. Okay. Maybe not all of them because I don’t want Voldemort or Ramsey Bolton running around together. But, hrm, I think real life Pippin for a drinking buddy could be fun. And I want my own dragon from Game of Thrones. And a direwolf. O0o and a Hippogriff from Harry Potter! I think I might like animals more than people… haha but my final answer will be Vegeta from Dragonball Z because he’s an adorable asshole. He means well.

If you could have a superpower, what will it be?

Telekinesis. Ever since I watched Teen Titans growing up, I was obsessed with Raven and her powers. I thought they were so cool and have wanted to be able to move things with my mind ever since. I may or may not try every now and then. I have yet to be successful, but hey, maybe some weird radioactive thing will happen someday and my dream will come true.

What item at home can you use as a weapon if there is a zombie apocalypse?

I think about this all the time. I even have a zombie escape plan/route for my house. Seriously though, I constantly look around me in various places and think, “if the zombie apocalypse started right here right now, what could I use as a weapon?” Anyway, if I’m at my house, I have actual weapons: a .22 rifle, a compound bow with sharp arrows (I used to hunt), a wooden baseball bat (channeling my inner Negan), and a plethora of knives (I used to work for Cutco so they’re extra sharp!). But if I had to choose a regular boring item I would choose a shovel or something. But in the zombie apocalypse everything becomes a weapon!!

Have you ever had a bad cosplay experience?

Depends on what you mean by bad. I’ve never really been bullied much for my costumes and I haven’t had any wardrobe malfunctions. Probably the worst experience I’ve had with cosplay is my own fault. I procrastinate and have spent too many nights right before a con finishing up a costume. Those are never good experiences.

It is a pleasure to feature you, Zabracus. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Sexy is confidence. Confidence in yourself to be whoever and whatever you are. Being comfortable in your own skin. You don’t have to wear tons of skin or tons of clothes to be sexy – just be you, and your sexiness will shine through.

  • Sarah Caram3llo Cosplay From New Jersey

Sarah Caram3llo Cosplay From New Jersey

Hi Sarah it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi, hi! Thank you so much for featuring me! Well, my name is Sarah, or otherwise known as Caram3llo Cosplay. I am 21 years old, I’ve been cosplaying for 8+ years, I’m from New Jersey, I’m just a friendly, nerdy potato.

    Photo: Dan Seiter Photography

How did you get started into cosplaying?

When I was about 14? Myself and a group of friends were on the interwebs late of night (so rebellious LOL) and discovered cosplay. So we all ran home (we lived in the same neighborhood) threw together a closest cosplay (we all did Death Note characters, I was Misa) and that was the start of my cosplay adventure.

What is your most memorable cosplay experience so far?

Oh man, there are so many. One of my favorites happened at AnimeNEXT 2015 I believe. I was cosplaying Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII and there was a panel for the music of XIII that day. I waiting in line, first in line, for hours lol, and I NEVER go to panels. We got front row seating, it was awesome. They had people there from the orchestra, and the composer! Right before the panel ended he pointed at me and said, “I see a Lightning in the crowd. Why don’t we get her a chair and have her come on stage.” Everybody started cheering, I was the only Lightning in the room.

I went up, and he and I both did a Q & A, expecting I was answering as if I were actually Lightning. After the show, he and the other guests gave me their autographs, a free CD, stickers, and asked to take a picture of me to bring with him to Japan to Square Enix, since that’s where he was going the next day. I wanted to die.

Do you have any guilty pleasures when it comes to food?

Oh food is life. So my top guilty pleasure/comfort food would be chips, literally any kind, taco bell, chicken broccoli Alfredo pasta. Mmm.

How much of a party animal are you?

I used to be. I mean, I wasnt crazy, never ever did like hard drugs or anything wild, drank with some friends, I used to be a big raver though. I’ll party once in awhile for occasions and at conventions.

    Photo: KG Photography

If you could travel to anywhere in the world for a vacation, where will it be?

I have like top three places I wanna visit. Germany, Ireland, Japan

Which was the last movie you watched and was it any good?

Donnie Darko for the 100th time. And yes! It’s one of my favs.

What turns you off on a date?

If you don’t have manners. I more particularly mean like, if you’re on your cellphone the whole time, not listening, rude to the waitress, etc. I don’t mind if someone doesn’t put their napkin on their lap lol, not that kind of manners. It would take a lot for me to be turned off from a date. I must already like you if we are on a date because I don’t go out much.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Sarah. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Thank you so much for having me!  And that’s a hard question, my brain jumps to people that radiate confidence and you can see they feel sexy and that is what sexy is, but then again there are those shy people that are so beautiful and they don’t see it, they are “sexy” too. I mean, I don’t ever feel sexy or confident and I’ve been told I am so I’m just like *shrug*. I think I just don’t really like that word, there so many other compliments you can give to someone that mean more other than sexy lol.

  • Cosplayer Marisa Noelle

    Cosplayer Marisa Noelle

Hi Marisa it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi! I am so excited! I’m from a small town in Northeast Pennsylvania and currently in my last semester of college. Despite being outgoing while in cosplay, I am actually quite shy so doing this interview is a huge step for me. I’m a video game nerd and am pretty addicted to The Nightmare Before Christmas. In saying that, I’m already planning for next Halloween!!

When did your interest in cosplaying start?

It started almost four years ago. My boyfriend and I were getting bored with our little town and wanted something different, we then started talking about the San Diego Comic-Con and how we really wanted to go. So we chose a small convention in Philadelphia called J1-Con. We cosplayed for the first time at our very first convention and I was hooked.

Is cosplaying a character a lot tougher than it looks?

It can be! Some characters are harder than others depending on how they look. The hardest character I’ve done so far has been Ahri from League of Legends. The tails took forever to make and I had to redo them multiple times in order to get them right and they were kind of uncomfortable, but hey it looked good!!

Which is the best compliment you have received?

The best compliment I ever got was from a young lady who recognized me from Instagram! She was so sweet and it made cosplaying more fun for me knowing that someone loved what I was doing.

How do you spend your free time?

When I’m not working or going to school I often play video games, watch Netflix/ Crunchyroll, and read on occasion. When a convention starts to come up, I start to look into materials for my next cosplay.

If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where will it be?

    Japan of course!

Which superpower have you always dreamed of having?

Hmmm good question! I would choose flying! That way I could go to Japan as much as I want and not have to pay for airfare!

What is the lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

I was asked to audition to be a lead singer in a band by a friend of mine. The guitarist told me he loved my singing and we went to a moving to celebrate me being in the band. The band didn’t work out but I’ve been dating him for four years now so it worked!

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Marisa. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Sexy to me is being able to be confident in your own skin and not caring what other people say. You want to cosplay, do it. You want to be the president, do it. You want to wear that beautiful black dress, do it. Being confident is so sexy and you shouldn’t be afraid to love yourself.

    Cosplayer Meepy Sheepy From Florida

Hi Meepy it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi there! I’m a Floridian cosplayer who started in 2010. I’m a Ravenclaw, and an all around creative person.  I also have 5 cats!

Photo: Papanotzzi , Character: Android 18

How did you get started into cosplaying?

Back when I was in middle school, a couple of my friends showed me what manga was and I became obsessed. I then quickly became the library nerd who was there all the time. Soon after, they mentioned a convention called Megacon and told me to go. While I was there I saw so many characters I recognized and I thought it was the coolest thing. I knew immediately it was something I wanted to do.

What is your most memorable cosplay experience so far?

Seeing Matthew Wood (voice of General Grievous) while I was cosplaying his character was definitely very memorable for me. He’s my favorite Star Wars character and this was a costume I really wanted to bring to life. Matthew even signed my helmet and gave me a sticker of authentication on it!

    Photo: Papanotzzi, Character: Valor

Which character are you looking forward to cosplaying next?

I really look forward to making my Sugar Plum Sylvanas. Sylvanas from W0W is a character I’ve always loved and I’m making this skin so I can have an awesome character for an awesome convention called Holiday Matsuri.

How much of a party animal are you?

I’m not really a party person to be honest. I’m the type to sit back and people watch. I’ve recently wanted to go to more parties though, so I can hang out with people I don’t really get to see during the day. I only really go to parties at conventions.

    Photo: Papanotzzi, Character: Twitch

If you could travel to anywhere in the world for a vacation, where will it be?

I’ve never really cared too much for wanting to travel, but if I had to choose I guess I would say Germany. I’ve always been very proud of my German side.

Which was the last movie you watched and was it any good?

The last movie I watched was 47 Meters Down. It was okay, but I think the movie needed to add a little more story.

Photo: Callus Heart Photography, Character: Red Arkana

What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

Once when I was at a Pokemon TCG tournament, a guy came up to me in-between matches and told me I had nice kneecaps and tried to have a conversation with me. I thought he was just trying to mess with me, but I later found out he was serious.

    Photo: Papanotzzi, Character: Virgin Killer

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Meepy. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I think sexy is like another way of saying hot or attractive. I don’t really think an amount of clothing determines sexiness, but more so the vibe of the person/object.

  • Cosplayer & Model, Sai

    Cosplayer & Model, Sai

Hi Sai it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

It is a pleasure to be here, I will keep the introduction as compact as possible for your readers. Hello everyone! My name is Sai, in Japan and I am 23 years old. I am a Caucasian girl with DNA from Belgium and Holland and a whole lot of unknown mixes. I have been a model since I was six years old and I was discovered by the cosplay and anime companies in Tokyo that eventually hired me to work as a fulltime cosplayer and idol in Tokyo. I am registered as the first “white” girl (Or “European” girl as some media has decided to call me) to have become a full-time cosplayer in Japan. However, I honestly don’t like categorizing people because of their DNA . I am just a regular girl in Japan with Japanese nationality living her life, and working hard for my career.

    What inspired you to cosplay?

My mom has kind of pushed me in the modeling business since when I was 6 years old, even forcing me to travel all the way to France to follow a modeling school all alone for an entire season to get a French Modeling Degree (which is considered high value in Japan). And I have been growing from being a child model to a fashion model, But I disliked being a fashion model. It was not fun, you had to reduce yourself to zero. You had to practice puking your food out, having a zombie expressionless look on your face, and you had to do your best to be nothing so that the clothes would shine out.

It was very much a lot of work and it was very degrading. And it was never good enough. The only one proud of it, was my mom. I was lonely as well. Never had friends. People at school bullied me for being a “ghost”. Eventually something snapped in me and I stopped modelling. I was rebelling. I started to go against my parents, started to eat what I wanted and finally I started to get some friends and they took me to concerts, we also cosplayed while watching anime together and eventually they invited me to my first anime convention. We were going to meet at the convention. When we met, I was surprised that they all were cosplayed. I was in just a red Lolita dress.

We walked around at the con and I was introduced to a lot of other cosplayers, it was so fun. It seemed they all thought I was cosplaying Misa Amane from Death Note. So I played along and made tails in my hair. It was a quick solution for fitting in their pictures more, these new friends were talking about going to a big convention together and having a sleepover at someones’ house near the convention. I never had friends before and I really wanted the affection a lot, I never had so much fun in my life so when they asked me to join them I was so happy.

We had a sleepover and prepared for the convention when we noticed my cosplay was a mess! It was no good ! So a friend offered me one of her old cosplays to wear at the convention to match her outfit. Best solution ever! I was so happy to have a friend with matching outfits! It became an addiction to go with these cosplayers to conventions, get photos taken together, make nice memories and get a lot of affection of everyone. I started to grow a fanbase without realising it. Eventually I was discovered and asked to join up into a more serious cosplay career. I accepted, wanting to make my friends proud. I worked hard. My first inspiration was my friends, then it also became my fans. I am addicted to all the love and cheering on!

Which characters have you loved cosplaying most so far?

I loved cosplaying Chii of Chobits, it was the first character that was discovered by the talent hunters. They even thought I was a life size doll in the convention when I was sitting. People started to take photos with me not realizing I was a real human being. It was funny how people jumped when I moved so eventually I stopped moving so people lined up to take photos with the lifesize doll, was less awkward while resting my feet than to constantly correct people that I was actually a human being. I wonder how many people have photos of me thinking I was a doll that day!

What are some of the challenges you face when creating a costume?

I barely create costumes anymore because we have to rehearse our characters personalities, and the costumes are from the official anime companies. Every day we have a different character, sometimes even 2-3 characters a day that we have to do in Akihabara and cons! So it is impossible to do! Also we are not even allowed to use our own costumes, it has to be official costumes by the anime company itself.  But back in the day when I sometimes created my own costumes, the biggest issues were finding the right material, sometimes drawing things on pattern, cutting it out, sewing it, all going well, last minute finding out the size is wrong or something else went wrong. Always a horror if you then were on a deadline!

Have you experienced a funny or embarrassing cosplay moment before?

Haven’t we all? As I mentioned before, when I was resting my feet in a chair, people thought I was a doll and started lining up to take photos with me, it was too awkward to correct everyone the entire time , especially since the first ones I corrected had nearly a heart attack! A lot of these kind of things happened in my career !

I guess the weirdest / creepiest thing that happened was this guy cosplaying this creepy character Jason from Friday the 13th, he was following me all over the convention. With his creepy mask! I didn’t mind it, it happens often enough that people follow. But, when my shift was over and I was returning home, I took the train home and saw he was still following. I walked to a friends home. Even now, years later, my friend still tells me about the days a man with a mask staring through the living room windows at night.

The most embarrassing thing that happened, was that I was for cleanup duty and I decided to quickly buy some kitchen cleaning paper in the convenient store, I opened the package in the office saying I took the liberty to buy kitchen paper, while opening it we all realized at the same time I accidentally bought toilet paper. The logo of the brand was covering the package on just the right spot so it wasn’t noticed until opened. I was so embarrassed!

A colleague of mine had an even worse embarrassing moment, she had to do a character with large boobs for one of the cosplay assignments. She used pads and when she was jumping they started to escape , some fell on the floor and more started escaping and falling out when she bent to pick them up from the floor. I tried to help her by distracting the people by giving them an “accident” panty shot.

If you can travel anywhere in this world, where will you go?

Anywhere ? Like, without obligations or anything to worry about ? I think Ikea after closing time, there are so many soft beds and stuff!

What do you find attractive in the opposite sex?

    Loyalty, courage, knows etiquette, confidence.

Lamest or weirdest attempt a guy has hit on you?

A lot of guys in Japan that are of older age and older generation believe that a woman is still lesser than a man. Often, a 60 year old man walks up to a 20 year old woman and if they find out that the young woman is still single, they demand a date or even marriage. Even a “no” seems to be very hard for them to understand out of a woman’s mouth. So it is one of the lamest attempts I experience on a weekly based 1-3 times averagely.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Sai. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

“Sexually attractive or exciting”, brought to you by Oxford dictionaries.

    Canadian Cosplayer Sara Stewart

Hi Sara it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi everyone! My name is Sara Stewart, but I go by the alias of Scarlix when online and cosplaying. I’m an animation and digital painting student at OCAD university in Toronto, Ontario, and I sew and craft in my spare time. I’m obsessed with Lord of the Rings, Kingdom Hearts, everything DC, and Pusheen the Cat! I’m your stereotypical shy, awkward, anxiety-ridden nerd who loves hugs and the indoors. I’m Canadian, born and raised (and yes, we do say “sorry” and “eh” a little too often), and live near Toronto. I’ve yet to go to a con outside of Canada, but hope to travel (or be invited) to conventions in other countries soon!

When did your interest in cosplay start?

My interest in cosplay started about 4 years ago when I first heard about conventions and the fact that people would dress-up as characters when they went to them. Halloween is my favourite time of year, so I’ve always enjoyed dressing-up in costumes, and I love everything to do with comics, gaming, anime, and sci-fi, so it just made sense to try it out! The first time I went to a con was FanExpo Canada in 2015. I was supposed to go with a group of friends, but they ditched me, so I ended up taking my mom with me. The best thing is that my mom now attends almost every con with me and has become my biggest fan/supporter and also a huge nerd too!

Which character have you enjoyed cosplaying most so far?

I absolutely love cosplaying Raven from Teen Titans. It was the first costume I ever actually sewed and put together (with the help of my mom)! I connect with Raven on so many levels that I feel almost too comfortable when portraying her (haha). She’s quiet, enjoys being alone, annoyed by people, never smiling, and a little gothic… Pretty much sums me up! Not only do I relate to her, but her costume is SO comfy to wear.

If you’re a con-goer, you know how tiring it is to walk around convention halls for 8+ hours a day, so being comfortable is very important. She is also very well-known and easily recognizable by kids, which is honestly one of my favourite things about cons. Nothing can compare to the look on a little kid’s face when they see their favourite character from their favourite cartoon in real-life. I grew up watching the original Teen Titans cartoon, so I understand how magical it is to see your favourite character come to life.

How is a typical cosplay con like and what do you usually do there?

My typical con day starts at about 5am. Most of my cosplays require extensive makeup and preparation time, so I like to set aside at least 2-3 hours for getting ready (I’m usually a zombie until at least 6am, or I’ve had some tea and food). Once I’ve gotten in my cosplay and packed my bag for the day, it’s time to hit the convention floor! I like being really prepared and planned out with how I’m going to spend my time, so the con map and schedule is my best friend!

Throughout the day, my mom (or other friends with me) will have to frequently remind me to drink water and eat food. My anxiety can get pretty high during conventions, so the thought of actually consuming anything is at the back of my mind. I usually have between 1-4 photoshoots set up for the day, so I plan out how to get to the locations and how long it will take all the day before. In between photoshoots, I mainly spend my time taking pictures with other con-goers, browsing the dealer’s room and artist alley (I’m a sucker for all of that beautiful art, and it’s a great way to support local artists too!), and saying hi to my con friends whom I only get to see a few times a year. By the end of the day, I’m absolutely exhausted and ready for a nice bath, greasy food, my hotel bed, and whatever happens to be playing on the TV.

What misconceptions about cosplay still exists now?

A lot of people still believe that you have to be a certain size or race to cosplay – I say to heck with all of those people! The cosplay community is built on mutual support and love for everyone around them. We help each other and encourage each other to continue doing what we love and get better at it. Cosplay is for EVERYONE! Be who you want to be! Wear what you want to wear! No matter what, there will always be people who will find false flaws in you, so ignore them and do what you love! You shouldn’t cosplay someone based on the sole fact that you might look like them. You should be cosplaying because you love the characters you portray and want to show off how AWESOME you are!

If you could have a superpower, what will it be?

Oh man, this question always stumps me… I think I’d have to say that I’d love the ability to shapeshift. Can you imagine how rad it would be to turn into a dragon! It would make commuting to school a whole lot easier, that’s for sure. I could explore the world in a whole new way, see things I can only dream of seeing – Soaring through the skies as a graceful hawk, swimming through the deep seas as a slick shark, running to catch my classes or the train on time as a speeding cheetah… The possibilities are endless! Plus, I’m a huge animal lover and I like to think that shapeshifting into a certain creature would allow me to understand and talk to them.

Which genre of movie do you like most?

Fantasy and sci-fi! I fall in love with the stunning worlds that CGI can create nowadays. I love being whisked away on unimaginable adventures, to lands that make our world seem so small, with creatures of every kind! As I previously mentioned, I’m a die-hard Lord of the Rings fan, so anything fantasy is my cup of tea. I find that I really become fully immersed in the worlds and stories of fantasy/sci-fi movies, and it allows me to escape our occasionally dull world for a short while when needed.

What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

Let’s go with the lamest attempt a guy has tried to get to know me. I receive a lot of personal DMs on Instagram, as that is where I am most active on social media. I honestly do not mind answering questions about cosplay or someone wanting to briefly say hi to me, but let me inform you that cosplayers have lives outside of social media. We go to school, we have jobs, we have our own problems and schedules that we have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. That being said, we are not online to be your personal pen-pals. I had a guy recently attempt to buy and send me a gift in hopes to (and I swear to you these were his exact words), “have the chance to become better aquatinted” with me.  I love my followers and I’d love to meet all of you at conventions, but I’m not something that you can “buy” time from. Please do all cosplayers a favour, and refrain from trying to “buy” our friendship.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Sara. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

“Sexy” is being confident with who you are and what you’re wearing. I find that when I truly connect with a character when cosplaying, it’s a huge self-esteem boost and I feel sexy no matter where I am or who is looking at me. It takes a lot of courage for cosplayers to pour their hearts and souls into costumes that take countless time and effort to make, and then to present themselves to crowds of thousands of people. Sexy is feeling good about yourself and not caring what others think of you. Be sexy! Be proud to see yourself as sexy!

    Houston Based Model, Masha

Hi Masha it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi! Thank you so much for the feature! I’m a full-time freelance model of Russian and Italian heritage now based in Houston Texas. I’ve been modeling for several years and have experience in a wide variety of styles, including fashion, figure, and cosplay.

    Photo: By The Edge Photography

How did you get into modeling?

It was kind of by chance actually – One day I heard someone needed a hair model and I thought to myself “I can do that”.  I was hoping for a new look, which I got, in addition to a lead on another creative that was looking for a model. From there it just spiraled into a hobby and then a career.

What is your secret to looking so fantastic?

I wish I could say there’s some special secret, but it’s just practicing good habits. Everything comes down to eating well, exercising, and getting rest. Of course I get off track sometimes just like everyone and have a hard time staying as “healthy” as I would like!

    Do you have any hobbies?

I’m one of those people whose life revolves around their work. Before I transitioned to modeling full-time, it was my hobby.  Now it’s my hobby, my job, and my whole life! It can get crazy and overwhelming but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

    Which flavor best describes you?

I’d say something diverse and complex – like a flavor that starts out as one thing and then takes you to another flavor. I can be fun and sweet, but I also get very focused on work and I think that would be a bold flavor.

How much of a foodie are you?

I’d say I’m kind of a foodie – I don’t really like to cook, but I love to eat! I’ll try most foods at least once. Dumplings are my favorite and I have a huge sweet tooth.

If you could have a super power, what will it be?

I’d want to control time. I feel like my schedule is always crazy and I’d love to be able to slow time down sometimes. Then again, being able to speed time up would be great while traveling from place to place!

Is there something you totally don’t get about guys?

I think guys are pretty straight forward in general, they aren’t any more unusual than anyone else – It’s individuals who can sometimes be confusing. Who knows how someone is going to act in any given situation?

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Masha. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I think “Sexy” is confidence!  Knowing who you are and what you want is an extremely sexy trait in anyone.
