Well, I’m a Chilean Cosplayer (Latin America in case you didn’t know, the long skinny country on the map), and I’ve been on it since 2012. I’m 26 and I’m a psychologist.
How did you get interested into cosplaying?
I’ve always been interested in DIY and crafting, actually I was a big fan of the Art attack show as a kid. Growing up, the video game culture got my attention, especially Pokemon and Legend of Zelda.
Which is a memorable cosplay experience you have had so far?
I think winning the best in show at Comic Con Chile in 2017, it was six months of hard work shown in just 60 seconds on stage. And I got my reward!
What character have you yet to cosplay and will do so in the near future?
I love armours, so I’m looking forward to building something from Dark Souls or Halo.
What is a common misconception about cosplayers you usually hear?
Usually I hear that people think we really believe we are those characters in our day to day life or that we are not professionals/don’t work.
Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or learn but haven’t had the time?
Yes!!! I want to learn FX makeup so badly and I’ve got to organize myself.

What is a funny or lame attempt a guy has tried to know you?
OMG, lame experiences most of the time, a guy just thought he could insist on getting me to dinner and knowhim. Even when I said no many times, you guys have to learn respect!

Hello! I’m a 22 year old cosplayer from the USA. I love rainy days, yoga, and binge watching anime.
How long have you been cosplaying and why do you love it?
I’ve been cosplaying since I was a freshman in high school so it’s been about eight years. I’ve only recently started cosplaying more seriously though. It’s been about two years since I’ve made it my main hobby. I love cosplaying because you get to transform into whoever you want! I love who I already am, but pretending to be characters you admire is really cool to me.
Which characters have you enjoyed cosplaying most so far?
One of my all time favorite characters to cosplay is the Klaxosaur Princess from Darling in the Franxx. Her character design is gorgeous and I just feel so BA when I have that costume on because of the fake nails and the giant horned crown. Another one of my all time favorites is Ryuko Matoi from Kill la Kill! Ryuko is just such a powerful female character that has her flaws but still keeps going with a goal in mind despite everything trying to bring her down. She is a bit rough around the edges, but still down to earth. And also, my cosplay of her seems to be what got me noticed and Ryuko will always have a special place in my heart because of that.
Is cosplaying a lot harder than it looks?
That depends on who you’re cosplaying and how close to the source material you wanna be! Cosplaying actual people is very hard because there’s not much room for leniency when trying to mimic their design. But when being an anime character, you can use a certain artistic interpretation when creating your look.
What is a typical day like for you?
Well, on a free day, I’ll wake up and catch up on whatever ongoing anime I’m watching at the time. Then I’ll typically do a makeup test for whichever character I’m working on cosplaying at the time. If the costume is ready, then I’ll take some pics in cosplay for my Patreon and other social media. After that I’ll either play some video games or draw something before dinner. That’s a typical chill day for me!
On a scale of 1-10, how much of an adventurer are you?
Honestly, probably about a 4. I’m very introverted and the most adventurous thing I’ve done is explore the basement of an old Victorian hotel. It was pretty spooky down there! I had this eerie feeling my friend and I weren’t alone too.
If you could learn anything in this world, what will it be?
Probably Japanese cause I wanna be able to watch anime without subtitles lol.
What is a funny or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?
Oh jeez, I wish I could just post all the screenshots I’ve gotten haha. But there was one time I was at a convention at some hotel and I went into an elevator to go back up to my room for the night and some guy jumped into the elevator after me. I had seen him a few times around the Con but didn’t know him very well. He ended up getting off at my floor and following me as I walked to my room so I stopped and asked him what room number he was in.
He just said he wanted to walk me back and when I said, “No thank you” he was understanding at least. But before he left he said, “I’m going to be a little flirty.” He kissed his finger and booped my nose with it and just walked away. I was just relieved he was leaving but also in shock from what just happened LMAO. That is probably the most awkward IRL flirting thing that has happened to me.

How did you discover cosplay and get interested in it?
In 2010, my older sister brought me to a cosplay event held in a big park near my city, it was a relatively small event but it was filled with people cosplaying many characters I didn’t know at the time. Now looking back, I can totally see myself being fascinated by all of that color, happiness and joy that surrounded me.
I was eleven years old and decided that the next time an event of this kind was held, I would also bring a cosplay! And I did! This is how I sew myself my first costume ever, giving life to the hobby that I love most in the world.
What do you love about cosplaying?
I love the fact that you can be whoever you love. Doing cosplay you can break down any wall of sex, gender, age or anything else. Today you are an alien, tomorrow maybe you will be a cat girl! And the best thing is the family that is created among friends known like this .. every time I attend a con, I am more and more convinced how this is a therapeutic hobby, how the hours spent in building and making my cosplay perfect are well invested and how I cannot wait to participate again!
Which is a memorable cosplaying experience you have had that you can share with us?
I remember the first time someone recognized the character I was bringing. Cosplay in Italy has arrived relatively recently, maybe twenty years or so, then a few years ago to find wigs or decent fabrics or in general materials, it was almost impossible or in any case very difficult. Especially for me that I was really small!
Then, one day, I wore my cosplay made with things that were thrifted and adapted as best I could, and a girl dressed by another character from the same series stopped to look at me, for then basically shouting, “Oh my god! You are (name of character!)” and ran towards me making space among a thousand strangers just to be able to have a picture with me, that at the time I was nobody, if not someone just dressed as her favorite character … and I’ll never forget her joy in looking at me!
What is a typical day like for yourself?
Usually when I wake up after drinking my sacred coffee I check my e-mail, and then I repeat or learn new dance choreographies! I often stop and draw or, like these days, I organize the photoshoot of my next cosplay!
If you could time travel, where will you go?
I will be crazy but I would like to visit America too in the 20s and 30s! There is something in those years that somehow fascinates me incredibly.
Do you believe in any superstition?
Incredibly not! I broke numerous mirrors, dropped salt too many times and let black cats cross the street before me, yet I never saw any differences in my life! I like to see the positive side in everything, so do I break a mirror? Look how beautiful the effect of when I try to re-glue it! Do I drop salt? Let’s throw it behind us, bad luck that will bring me luck! Do you pass me a black cat in front? After him! We have to pet it!!
What is a lame or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?
It often happens to me that guys (but sometimes even girls) ask me at first glance, the first ever message, which is my favorite position. Without any apparent reason, it seems to him the best question to try with me. My answer? CEO.

Sexy for me is anything that makes you think you are really beautiful, inside and out. It is not a tight miniskirt or a 12″ heel to decide whether you are sexy or not. It’s how you feel inside, how you relate to the other sex. Do you like your smile / pout / nose? Use it to give you a rush of security that is the most sensual thing there is.

I have always been a big fan of Halloween, so when I went to my first comic convention and realized you could dress up as them, my brain exploded and I had a very expensive addiction to cosplaying ever since.
Which is a memorable cosplay experience you have had so far?
I love cosplaying as some of the celebrity guests at comic conventions, so a few of my favourite memories are when I got pictures with Pee-Wee when I dressed as him in a grey suit and red bow tie, when I dressed as a sexy Darth Vader and got a pic with Carrie Fisher, when I was Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter and my picture with Evangeline Lily bowing down to me in my Wasp cosplay.
What do you love about being a DJ?
I LOVE music. I feel like I had some very low points in my life and music saved me. I love seeing people lose themselves on the dancefloor, escaping from their reality and just letting go of all of their stress and problems and getting lost in the sound and in that moment we become connected as passionate souls in love with the beat. Also its just fuckin’ fun!
What is a common misconception about DJs you usually hear?
That anyone can be a DJ. Not true. You have to be able to read a room and decide how people are going to respond to your music choices.
That DJing is easy. Nope. Dealing with drunk people that, “Just want to hear one good song” or want you to “Just play this song on my phone” or “Can’t you download this song? Don’t you have wifi?”
One of my most stressful sets was at a pool party in Florida when I realized there was no shade for the gear and it was a million degrees outside. I had to set up my laptop on a bin of ice and make sure I emptied the water out of the bin every 30 minutes and put in new ice to keep the gear cool while maintaining the party and keeping the music flowing. This is one reason I don’t use a laptop anymore. Haha!
Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or learn but haven’t had the time?
I would love to learn how to sew and make my own costumes. However, living in a shoebox apartment in a very expensive city and working two jobs doesn’t really supply me with the time or the space to do any crafting. And honestly, by the time I would learn how to make something mediocre, I could just have it commissioned by a professional artist/expert (and support them) while also saving my own time and sanity.

Hello! My name is Helen Vasconcelos, you can call me by my real name or my stage name: Hanamyu. I’m from Brazil, and I’ve been cosplaying for five years and I’ve been a professional cosplayer for a year! I make accessories, clothes and work as a model cosplayer too.
Most of my cosplays are created by me and my grandma, I love making my own cosplays and all the little details, it’s therapeutic for me, I can’t imagine living without cosplaying, that’s what I love most without a doubt.
When and how did you first start to cosplay?
I started cosplaying in a very unusual way for my old school’s cultural week, I remember my class stayed with the Asian continent and we had to dress up to represent the continent and I choose to dress up in Chun-li and when I realized I was cosplaying! At the time I had no idea what exactly cosplay meant, because here in Brazil it is not yet a well known culture, but even without any knowledge about, joined my grandmother and we started making clothes and accessories all from zero. I remember it was yesterday!
That’s why my Chun-li is a very remarkable cosplay for me to this day, because besides being my first cosplay people liked it a lot and I received a lot of local and international recognition with her, besides winning competitions here in my city with this cosplay.
Which characters have you enjoyed cosplaying most?
It’s very hard to choose, but I loved making Sailor Moon cosplay, it’s an extremely sentimental cosplay for me and I love how magical girls can be strong and can kill their enemies wearing short skirts with cute glittery accessories, it’s incredibly cute and sexy. Besides, I also loved cosplaying Chun-li because she’s such an amazing character and taught me a lot of things like being an incredibly strong woman and kicking bad guys.
I couldn’t forget about my lovely magic girl Sakura Kinomoto too. I love all her outfits, I feel incredibly cute and I also got a lot of love from the audience when I cosplayed her and this is very important to me.
If you could be a cosplay character for real, who will you choose to be?
I want to be Sailor Moon, she was a very remarkable character for me in my childhood to this day, and no doubt I would love to be her.
Do you have any other hobbies and interests?
Yes, I love reading, drawing, watching anime, cooking new recipes and playing some games (especially RPG) when I have free time.
If you could time travel, where will you like to go?
I would really like to know all the world and the different cultures of each country, but especially I would love to go to Japan and to the moon too.
On a scale of 1-10, how much of a party animal are you?
I would say 1, because I really am a very homely person and I love spending my time at home. Even for cosplay events I’m not going to as many as I would like because I really love staying home with my pet bird Bibi.
What is a funny or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?
I remember once a guy was texting my Instagram asking if he could meet me, I find that kind of thing very strange and bothers me a lot, I never answered him.

I define sexy as a mood, it’s more than just a perfect body pattern, it’s about how you feel being male or female and once you put on some clothes (or none) and feel confident and powerful, no one can take off this from you.
I am a PC gamer, cosplayer and just a general geek. Originally from a small town outside Syracuse, NY, I have lived in Fort Myers, FL now for many years. I have been going to Cons for almost a decade but only cosplaying for about four years. I fell in love with armor making and crafting cosplays. It is my creative outlet.
I have been competing in craftsmanship competitions now for over two years and have won awards at Cons like Dragon Con, Fla Super Con, and Orlando’s MegaCon.

What inspired you to get into cosplay?
I have always loved performing. I was a radio DJ for about six years, and in college was the mascot (Otto the Orange for Syracuse). Acting and being a character has always been a draw for me. I just never knew where to start, I admired cosplayers from afar. I ended up just saying screw it one day and bought a Lolita type dress.
My first cosplay was a Lolita Cinderella, nothing handmade, it was bad. But I had the best time, I was hooked. Having the honor to portray a character that I love is the best feeling in the world. To me, it is the ultimate expression of a fandom.

What is the toughest character you have ever cosplayed before?
I made Zach Fischer’s version of Maleficent, and it is full armor and a beast. It has armor from the head piece to my shoes and it has wings. It’s impossible to sit and I really don’t have much range of motion. But it is by far my favorite cosplay. It is my best work; it is award winning and the most fun character to be.

Which is a memorable cosplaying experience you had that you can share with us?
Dragon Con Parade, I was Mercy from Overwatch. Once again, I was in full armor, wings, couldn’t sit, in the Atl heat and have to say it was still the best experience. The kid’s faces when they saw our Overwatch group were worth every toe nails that turned black. Seriously I had never felt so honored to be a character as I did that day. I think I high fived every kid on the parade route.

How do you like to spend your weekends?
Crafting. Either cosplay, or something for the house, I enjoy making things. I also love theme parks and am a Disney freak. If not, I default to playing video games. I am more of an MMO girl but have recently been branching out to like Overwatch and such. I am an officer in my guild so I am kind of a big deal.
If you can have a superpower, what will you choose to have?
Persuasion/suggestion, without having to make physical contact. I feel like that can get you anything you want, and out of any bad situation. But unlike flying or invisibility won’t run the risk of getting you stuck in a lab for the rest of your life. It must be controllable, like you wouldn’t want to force your boyfriend to like you, somethings have to be real.

On a scale of 1-10, how much of a foodie are you?
5. I am lucky to have traveled a lot. From Romania to China I have had the opportunity to try some crazy food, and good food. But I just am not really that into eating. I can be just as happy with a grilled cheese as I can with sharks fin soup. I love trying new things when abroad, but I am not that picky on a day to day basis. If it tastes good, pass the Cocoa Pebbles.

What is a lame or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?
My approach is to be honest and direct, but kind. There is a special place in hell for someone who mocks guys for putting themselves out there. If a guy liked me and it wasn’t reciprocated, I would be honest, but it’s not something that I would make fun of, or share. It takes guts to approach the opposite sex and no one wants to be rejected. If you are rude that is different, but lame is fine, awkward is fine, we all fumble our way through life.

I would love to learn how to use resin for my cosplays! It fascinates me a lot and I often admire those who use it for their costumes!

I’m not sure, but the flavor that best describes me is that of strawberries! Sweet, with a good smell ( I really like strawberries and they taste great with chocolate, which I love!).
What is a funny or lame attempt a guy has tried to know you?
I don’t think it’s funny, but perhaps the most annoying attempt is that of how much a guy keeps writing to you and even though you tell him you’re not interested…keeps writing even if you don’t answer him!

How long have you been cosplaying and why do you love it?
I like gaming, anime and manga since 2015 year. This year I made my first cosplay (if I may call it that) of Maxine Caulfield from the game Life Is Strange. But I think I started cosplay only in June 2018, and it was Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki.
Which characters do you love to cosplay and why?
I really like to cosplay Yandere characters, they are very cool and interesting, I like the facial expressions and charisma of such characters, bloody scenes X.
Which is a memorable cosplaying experience you had that you can share with us?
The biggest experience I got was from cosplaying Diva and 2B. At Diva, I changed different parts in the suit, added new ones, and made the suit / craft better. At 2B, I customized the katana, painted it, and made it detailed.
What is the best compliment you have received?
I am happy from all the compliments haha.
If you could be a superhero or super villain for real, who will it be?
D.Va 100% X. I like her because she is super kawaii but she is very powerful and have cool meka.

One guy from my city wrote to me, “I’m ready to pay you $ 1,000 a night if you will have sex with me,” I told him that I am not a product and also wrote, “you can discuss this with my boyfriend, idiot.”
To which he also gave me his answer, “YOUR GUY CAN STAND AND FAP NEARBY.” It was insanely stupid and I just added this guy on the black list. I don’t even know what he expected …

Which characters do you love to cosplay and why?
Actually there are a lot of characters that I love, but haven’t had chances to cosplay as. Other than that, my current waifu(s) which I had cosplayed the most times are Rem from Re:zero, Mash Kyrielight from Fate series, Unicorn & Takao sisters from Azurlane, Theresa from Honkai Impact 3, and Uraraka Ochako from Boku no Hero Academia etc.
These characters are mostly having gentle and soft characteristics, which I couldn’t resist their bashful smile. I’m always attracted by cute and sexy characters, but they are also powerful and strong at the same time.

Which is a memorable cosplaying experience you had that you can share with us?
The most memorable cosplaying experiences are the moments when I get to met Mai fans. I remembered every time when Mai fans told me how much they love me and why; while some of them also remembered my favourite things and brought it to me no matter how far they’re from. They made my cosplay life so happy and enjoyable, as they always told me they will love me no matter what I do. I’m so thankful to have them in Mai life, I never knew I could be so important until I met them.
Especially this year, I’ve received a lot of encouragement and support from Mai dear fans, and I’m also very thankful for having opportunities to work with amazing people and companies from local to overseas.

What is the best compliment you have received?
The best compliments are when people want to take photos with me, and tell me I look exactly the same as the character. I’m also very happy when I receive kisses and hugs from girls, even when I’m exhausted from preparing and cosplaying the whole day.

If you could be a superhero or super villain for real, who will it be?
I wish to become a superhero that always puts smiles on their faces which can influence others to have positive minds. At the same time, they are strong and powerful, never give up no matter how difficult the situation is. I’ve always wanted to be like the characters who influence me, which are: All might from BNHA, Luffy from One Piece, and Sun Goku from Dragonball series etc.
On a scale of 1-10, how much of a foodie are you?

What is a lame or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?
The most awkward moment I remembered was that time, I had received a piece of tissue from a person, he requested me to sign on that tissue, while he doesn’t want to buy any of my merchandise or take photos with me. The thing is, my pen couldn’t write anything on that tissue paper… so I had to reject his request. But other than that, it was a funny experience that I first knew I couldn’t sign on tissue paper, haha!

Sexy to me is confident, you are sexy no matter what body size and how you look from the outside, the important part is how you define yourself. Other than that, I think posing is also important in showing sexy; I’m always learning on how to pose in cosplay and modelling photography, as my job normally requires cute and sexy poses, so I had to be prepared to look ‘perfect’ in front of the cameras.

When and how did you first start to cosplay?
I first started cosplaying at Wondercon in 2018. An old friend and I had gone a couple years back and we decided “hey, why not cosplay the next time we go!” We both had a mutual love for Spider-Man so we went as Spinneret and Gwenom and literally had the best time. Everyone we met was so nice and it was just so awesome to be welcomed into the cosplay community.
Which characters have you enjoyed cosplaying most?
The two characters I loved cosplaying the most would be Miles Morales and Gamora. Miles was really exciting for me because he’s the first black Spider-Man which is so amazing, because Spider-Man is my favorite super hero.
Gamora is also such a badass character and doesn’t take crap from anyone. She immediately caught my attention when they first announced the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and was at the top of my list of characters to cosplay when I first started. Plus, Zoe Saldana is one of my favorite actresses.
If you could be a cosplay character for real, who will you choose to be?
I would say that I wanted to be Gamora but I wouldn’t want to be killed by my adoptive father over a soul stone. I think I would be pretty cool to be Monica Rambeau actually. Later on in her life she becomes the next Captain Marvel and I like the idea of flying around at the speed of light and having photon blasts come out of my hands.
Do you have any other hobbies and interests?
Lately I’ve been wanting to get into more physical activities and just being more active. I’ve been looking into doing kickboxing classes and that’s so out of my comfort zone because I’ve never done anything like that whatsoever but from what I hear, it’s a great form of exercise and I’m really interested in that.
If you could time travel, where will you like to go?
If I could time travel, I would definitely go back to my childhood in the 90s. Omg what a time! Not having to worry about adult BS like bills and jobs. Just such a carefree feeling and watching Nickelodeon shows all day. I miss the 90s so much.
On a scale of 1-10, how much of a party animal are you?
I’m like a -2!
I’m such a homebody, I never really go out to parties or clubs unless it’s for a friends birthday or something. But yeah going out or drinking has never been my style. Not to say it’s a bad thing to do, it’s just never been in my character. I mostly just chill at home and watching either Netflix or YouTube or playing on my PS4.
What is a funny or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?
Ohh wow. I have THE worst memory so this is a thinker! It’s not necessarily a guy getting to know me but it was still awkward. There’s was this one time I was at my friend’s parent’s wedding and I’m sitting at the table talking with everyone. Then this one guy who’s a friend of a friend comes and sits down next to me and we start talking and catching up. Then he looks me up and down and is like, “Hey did you get a boob job?”
I was a bit surprised that he would ask me this because we’ve hung out before but my cleavage was a little exposed here. So I was like, “Are you seriously asking me this? Do I look like I can afford a boob job?” All my friends at the table were laughing so hard and it was just so embarrassing. He apologized after that.

What’s sexy to me is confidence and just knowing and owning who you are as a person. Also humor! If you can make me laugh, you’re instantly attractive.
