Fashion Influencer Celeste Tan

Hello, thank you for the feature! I am Celeste, a 22-year-old who is currently an Undergraduate pursuing a Bachelors in Business (Marketing) in Singapore. I am currently juggling between my last semester in University and internship at the same time.

I have a passion for fashion, hence the reason why I decided to join the Marketing Sector after dropping out of Accountancy after my first semester as I realized, why not combine what I like into my studies instead of something I’ll get bored of.  I like to read, paint, listen to music and definitely shop online/offline.

What inspires your fashion style and where do you love to shop from?

I started becoming conscious of what I wore when I was 17 and tried to find my personal style as I grew older. My style has evolved over the years after following fashion influencers such as Xenia Dots, Willabelle Ong and Waikei Tong. I also get inspiration from Pinterest.

I mostly shop at online brands such as The Style Soiree, Princess Polly, Lovet and Supergurl as it caters to the vibe that I am going for. Sometimes, I pop by Love Bonito, Zara and The Editors Market to browse through their collections.  As someone who currently interns at a popular footwear brand, most of the pieces that I own definitely compliments with the shoes.

Do you have any favorite quotes or mottos you use regularly?

One of my favorite quotes comes from a poem written by Rupi Kaur, “and here you are living despite it all.” I even got it tattooed on me haha!  As someone who was diagnosed with MDD at the age of 17, it is a reminder to me that no matter how tough things get and how tired I am from living, I pushed through it with the help of my best friends and doctors. Honestly, without them I would have really consider the route.

Another quote that I live by is from a poem by

“ And then I realized

I was far more deserving of my love

Than the one who broke me.”

I realized that the person I once loved didn’t deserve the love and care I provided. I needed it for myself and honestly, being single allowed me to heal myself and love myself even if it’s just taking a nap or buying clothes. It’s about what makes you happy on the inside.

Which cuisine or type of food do you like most?

Definitely Italian Food! You can never go wrong with PASTAAAAA, especially bacon aglio olio!

If you could time travel, what will you like to witness or change?

Honestly, I would like to change the year my maternal grandma passed away. I was 11 when she passed on and she didn’t get to watch my achievements as I grew older. I miss her very deeply and honestly, I should have spent more time with her. I think she was the only one who gets me in the family and looked out for me despite her age and health declining.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or learn but yet to find the time for it?

I definitely want to learn how to do pottery as I am interested in making my own decorative piece to be placed in my room! However, with my busy schedule I haven’t gotten the chance to do so. So I’ll probably learn it after my finals and work load is lesser for sure.

On a scale of 1-10, how much of a superstitious person are you?

I would say 8 out of 10 especially during the Hungry Ghost Festival. I ain’t playing with the ghosts for sure, because I’m a scaredy cat.

What turns you off on a date?

OMG, I’ve way too many but I will share my top 3. One of them would definitely be being rude whether if it’s with the waitress or bartender. Generally rude to everyone. I would definitely not want a partner who is rude to me.

Another would be someone who underdresses, if you turned up with slippers on our first date when we planned to do something romantic, I would definitely walk off ASAP.

Lastly, a guy who doesn’t talk. Might as well let the crickets talk for him. Haha.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Celeste. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

To me “sexy” is feeling comfortable in your skin regardless of your body shape, having acne or even the colour of your skin. When I was younger, I was never confident about how I look or hated how my skin was not as flawless at the pretty girls but as I grew older, I started getting a little bit more comfortable in wearing clothes I liked despite having bacne. It’s not that I chose to have bacne but because of the medications I’ve taken made it that way haha! Now that we are in 2021, women are becoming comfortable and unapologetic on how they look despite their body shape. That’s what I call Sexy!
