    Hi Jennifer, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

    Hello everyone! I’m a Los Angeles based photographer and writer. My work revolves mostly around social media photography and marketing integration, and currently, I’m trying to expand to editorials and travel photography. I work for various companies as a contract photographer, as a freelancer in both photography and graphic design, and as a writer for Canon USA.

    How did your interest in photography start?

    I started shooting around the narcissistic age of 18 (2011) when I started up my oh-so-hip Tumblr blog. I got a Canon T3 Rebel from my dad as a graduation gift and from there on, I started experimenting with it (aka I took a lot of selfies and photos of my stuff). I didn’t start pursuing it professionally until January of 2015 when I started to pivot away from the corporate world of graphic design.

    What are the challenges a photographer typically faces?

    I think the biggest challenge for any creative is getting over self doubt. It’s really hard to compare yourself to a talent so intangible and so susceptible to human interpretation. Your worst enemy is yourself and I think getting into this field, you really need to understand your self worth and always fight out of the slump that pulls you down. I’ve seen many give up photography because they didn’t think it was worth pursuing in the end. It’s not an easy journey, I will tell you that.

    Another challenge that I experience personally is trying to stay above the curve. The market is super saturated and it’s hard to stand out and be different from the rest. How can I make my work speak for itself? That question still haunts me and I’m still trying to figure that out for myself. How do you define who you are and stay consistent within your definition?

    Which is your most memorable travel experience so far?

    My most memorable travel experience would have to be New York this past February. I got to spend a full 2 weeks in NYC and experience it in all its glory. Not only did I get to experience NYFW, sit in the photographer’s pit, and get published in Composure Magazine, but also got to actually enjoy my stay in the Big Apple. It’s probably my first long-term trip that I paid completely with my hard earned money since I started my career and I’m very proud of this accomplishment.

    If you could shop for free in any brand or shop, which would it be?

    Man…that is like asking to choose your favorite child. Thankfully, I don’t have kids yet so this should be a little easier. I would probably go with Nasty Gal because anything weird and edgy is my type of clothes.

    Are you more of a morning person or night owl?

    It’s around 2am as I’m answering this, so yes I am of the night variety. We are zombies pretty much until 5pm and then the coolness of the evening awakens our inner beings and suddenly we are 10x more productive. If you start howling at the moon, however, you’ve gone too far and you probably need some sleep.

    If you could time travel, where will you go and why?

    I would go back to that time I tripped and ate it on the sidewalk…actually there are a lot of those incidents…Can I go to every time I’ve fallen on my face and erase that from history?

    How will you describe an ideal date?

    I love dates that have no strings attached. I love casual dates that just lead from one event to the next and the night is free-flowing. The best dates are effortless with good conversation (and good wine).

    Well, all I need is a mirror—I’m totally joking. My answer is pretty cliché, but I really do believe confidence is sexy. Not boastful, prideful confidence, but more of a reassurance of oneself that you can be yourself and let yourself shine in all its potential. Be true to yourself and true to others.

    “Color me Blind”

    This is a personal project of mine inspired by Valentino’s all red shoot featured on instagram. With all the unrest in the world as people fight over identification, supremacy, and racial stereotypes, I wanted to start a project that brought beauty, not only to the clothes that one wears, but also, that in the end, the color of your skin is the most beautiful part of you.  (image: Work In Progress.jpg) This is a sneak peek of one of the shots I took for this project.     How did you get started into cosplay?

    When I was 12, I was REALLY into the Teen Titans show and really wanted to be Raven for Halloween. Well, I didn’t like any of the costumes in the stores and decided to make my own. Upon doing research on my good ol’ desktop, I fell upon cosplay and never looked back!

    Which common misconceptions about cosplay still exists today?

    I feel like the one that I experience the most is people judging it as something adults shouldn’t do or should grow out of. I plan to cosplay Fortune Teller Baba when I’m old enough for it!!!

    What is the best compliment you have received?

    The best one was from a fellow cosplayer that I look up to – SuperKayce. She saw my Kellacun armor and asked what I had used to seal it because it looked so smooth! That’s a lady that I know knows her stuff, so I felt awesome to have something that I consider a small detail that the average con-goer wouldn’t notice… noticed! I spent MANY hours sanding that thing, haha!

    What do you enjoy most about cosplay?

    I enjoy wearing the costume and getting to embody the character. Second only to interacting with and discovering new people and friends that are as obsessed with the same things I am through this fun passion of mine!

    If you could change one thing about the world, what will it be?

    Just to give people an ounce more of understanding. Taking a step back and putting yourself in someone else’s shoes makes such a difference.

    Hmm… Maybe Fragezeichen from Nena.

    What do you find attractive in the opposite sex?

    I wouldn’t limit myself to just the opposite sex, but I think raw determination is the sexiest thing ever. Nothing like watching someone decide to accomplish something and totally conquer it!

    Sexy, to me, is odd. It plays into the question above – it’s super sexy to me to someone who might be insecure, but still overcoming that to do what they truly want in life. It’s fluid for me – rather than physical. Hard work! That’s what I love to see! 🙂 And thank you for the questions!

    Thank you so much! I am a cosplayer, gamer-girl, Disney lover, comic reader, film/tv buff and over-all nerd from the Los Angeles area! I have been cosplaying now for over three years, but I wish I had been doing it my whole life!

    When did your interest in cosplay begin?

    It began back a bit over 3 years ago when I attended my first San Diego Comic Con. I saw all of these amazing cosplayers wearing these epic costumes. I was always a nerd but I never knew how to express myself and when I saw these people cosplaying as their favorite characters, I knew I had to get in on that.

    Which characters that you have cosplayed before are you most proud of?

    I love all of my Harley Quinns. Especially my Arkham City and Injustice: Gods Among Us Harleys. She is always my favorite to dress up as, she is so bubbly, crazy and sexy all at the same time. I really loved my Thor cosplay as well because I made the armor all from scratch.

    What is the most common misconception you hear about cosplayers?

    I think the most common misconception is that we just dress up like it is Halloween all the time. It is much more than that. These costumes take weeks if not months to complete and these characters really mean something to us, so to portray our love for our favorite characters through this skill and craft is meaningful. It is way more than just poor quality Halloween store costuming. These are very expensive, time consuming pieces of art.

    Which is the craziest thing you have done or experienced so far?

    I would have to say San Diego Comic Con is always a crazy experience. The crowds are insane and the amount of fandoms there are amazing. Literally the whole city gets involved in the madness that is Comic Con.

    Do you have any guilty pleasures?

    Oh ya. I love watching TV shows and some of those shows are not the best quality shows but they are so fun to watch. I really love watching Pretty Little Liars on Freeform. I have been since college and it is a total guilty pleasure. It’s such a lame soap opera but it’s so addicting. I also really like watching Catfish on MTV. That show is so intense! But I do also watch good quality shows too haha! I love The Walking Dead, The Flash, Arrow, Bates Motel, The Crown and Stranger Things as well.

    If you could describe yourself as a flavor, what will it be?

    Hmmmm that is an interesting question! I know this sounds really weird and in depth, but I would have to say a Chai Latte! Chai spice can be really spicy but at the same time the vanilla and cream flavors really are sweet. I myself can be spicy and sweet!

    How long do you think you’ll survive a zombie apocalypse?

    I honestly was thinking about this the other day after watching The Walking Dead. I would say I would head down to San Diego to this little island across the bay called Coronado. It is surrounded by water on mainly all sides and the only thing that connects it to the mainland is a bridge and a tiny strip of beach called “the strand.” I feel like zombies would have a hard time getting there. Also the Navy is located there and that would be great for protection. I really have thought about this!

    I would define sexy as not trying too hard to be sexy. I think the people that are the sexiest are the ones that do not show it off too much. In the cosplay world there are some cosplayers who show nothing but boobs and butt, and while that might be great for them and their followers, I always find it’s sexier to show off your skill before showing off literally everything else. I don’t feel like you need to post overly sexualized pictures and up close photos of a butt to attract good attention. I also think it is sexy when someone does charity work or good deeds for other people!

    What do you enjoy most about being a DJ?

    I’ve always love performing for people. And being a DJ allows me to play songs that I love and making the crowd enjoy the song as much as I do.

    Is there any motto or quote you live by?

    Step outside of your comfort zone and never stop growing as an individual.

    What is the best compliment you have received?

    I’ve received many compliments from fans or people that attend my shows telling me how much they enjoy the music. For me that is the best compliment a DJ can ever get.

    Which is your proudest accomplishment so far?

    I would say being able to enjoy what I do right now and making others enjoy themselves at the same time.

    What kind of movies do you enjoy watching?

    I love watching romantic movies filled with action scenes in it. I also love watching reality TV shows.

    If you could change anything in this world, what will it be?

    I would change the weather here in Malaysia. I’ve always loved the 4 seasons because I can’t stand the heat.

    How will you describe an ideal date?

    I love watching movies. So maybe an ideal date would be dinner first and a movie later.

    Hi Shiru thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

    I’m a UK based cosplayer, I’ve been cosplaying since 2012 and the majority of the costumes are made by me! I’m also the owner/illustrator/seamstress of Shirushiru shop where you can find handmade zip purses with my own illustrations inspired by my favourite anime/game.

    What do you love most about cosplay?

    I love the costume making part the most. From drafting the patterns to sewing the toiles, finalizing it in fabric and also adding handsewn details. It can be labour intensive and time consuming at times, but it’s the joy of being able to make a costume that is tailor fitted to me, with the right silhouette, and the right details that makes it worthwhile. (And also makes me forget about the amount of times I’ve unpicked that same seam haha)

    On top of that I do enjoy bringing my favourite character to life too! And being able to stay in character (or out!) in conventions. It’s also fun being able to meet other cosplayers who cosplays from the same series too!

    Which characters have you enjoyed cosplaying most?

    It has to be Ako from ‘Netoge No Yome wa Onnanoko Janai to Omotta?’ mainly because her dress was so much fun to make, it was the first time for me making a costume that was so pink and had lots of  ruffle trimmings and bows and ribbons (I really had a blast choosing the fabrics for this costume). I cosplayed her for a small event in Indonesia and her outfit really makes me feel like a magical girl, especially with the staff that I get to carry around with me as well.

    How much effort and time does it take for you to prepare for a character typically?

    It depends on the costume,, and willpower haha. I made mine and my boyfriends’ costume for our Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors cosplay and both of those took weeks to prepare. It was mainly due to the amount of armour and embroidery in the costume. However costumes like the Umaru hoodie that I wore for my Himouto Umaru chan cosplay and the dress that I made to cosplay Rika from Mystic Messenger took a day to make.

    If you could have a super power, what will you choose to have?

    Probably the ability to go wherever you want whenever you want? Like having Doraemons’ doko demo door (Go Anywhere door). I really want to travel more and see the world, visit friends in different parts of the world. Would be great if it was free.

    Do you have any other hobbies?

    Apart from drawing and sewing, I like to read as well. I’m a big fan of Haruki Murakami and have read most of his books (I’ve got quite a collection and I’ve also met the author in person too eeeee >w<) . I also love reading works by Milan Kundera, Sylvia Plath, Jeffrey Eugenides, Kazuo Ishiguro. I’m also aiming to tackle Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace one day!

    What do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

    Kindness, Humility and Patience. Basically, the traits that my boyfriend posses ^^

    Lamest pickup line or attempt a guy has tried on you before?

    I wouldn’t even call this a pickup line or an attempt, I just don’t understand when people DM you with photos of their genitalia like I’m sorry, I don’t want to see that. Or people asking you to send nudes. No mate just no.

    It’s a pleasure to feature you Shiru. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

    “D’être bien dans sa peau” – Being well in one’s own skin or to feel good in one’s own skin. This is the phrase that I learned in my french class in high school, and I still remember until now because it taught me that if you’re comfortable with your own body, you will feel good and it makes you look good.  I believe that is how I would define sexy.

    What is your fashion style?

    My style is pretty much all over the place. I’m all about being comfortable and warm. You can always catch me with some crazy patterns on my pants, that’s for sure.

    Which is your most memorable modeling shoot so far?

    All my work is pretty memorable to me. Over the years I’ve worked with such talented people that they are all memorable to me. But I do recall working on a runway show where my hair was so tall that it made me feel like a supermodel.

    How do you relax or unwind after a long day?

    When I get a moment to unwind I light a nice scented candle and relax in a bubble bath while I play my favorite music. Sometimes I even include a glass of wine and some of my favorite fruit.

    Do you believe in any superstition?

    Yes I am very superstitious, from not walking under ladders to opening umbrellas in the house.

    If you could personally witness anything, what would you want to have seen?

    I would love to witness the sunrise in an exotic part of the world. I feel like it would be not only beautiful but something I would remember forever.

    Have you experienced a funny or embarrassing moment before?

    Absolutely. I was doing a photoshoot, I had my hair styled to cover my chest for the pictures. I had turned my body just slightly and my hair moved completely, letting everyone see what my hair was covering.

    What turns you off on a date?

    Well when I see a guy and I’m trying to get his attention on a date, and he’s constantly on his phone, I immediately get turned off and want nothing to do with it.

    I define sexy by the little moments that you truly feel happy within yourself. When you can smile and be confident about what you’re working with. I think being sexy is natural and vulnerable. It’s a beautiful thing.
