Meet Supermodel International 2016 Winner Josephine Tan

Hi Jojo, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hello Everyone. I am Josephine Tan, also known as Jojo. I was born in Kuantan, Pahang and raised in Kuala Lumpur. I have graduated as a broadcasting student in St John University, New York and now working as a freelance model and am also an entrepreneur in the retailing business in shopping malls.

How did you get started into modeling?

I started my modeling career when I was 18 years old through joining the TV show name “Deal Or No Deal”. I was lucky enough to be shortlisted among hundreds of applicants. Ever since then, I started to discover my interest in modeling and was determined to be a runway model. I never missed any opportunity for casting although I was told by my peers that I was not qualified as I was new to the industry. I have gathered the experience piece by piece, bit by bit from casting, photoshoots and on runways to make me who I am today.

You have participated in various modeling events and contests, which is the most memorable for you?

Year 2009, I first joined the contest “Miss Malaysia Model Of The World” and finished as 4^th runner up. It was a surprise to me as I was new in the industry and had minimal knowledge about modeling. In year 2011, I challenged myself to sign up for “X Top Model Search”. I did not win the grand prize but was able to grab 6 subsidiary titles home. After the second contest, my modeling career started to expand and this was the force that drives me further. In year 2013, I decided to go back to the pageant industry as I wished to push myself further and it turned out to be another surprise to me as I was crowned the winner and represented Malaysia to compete internationally.

To be honest, I did not see that coming but I am really glad and thankful. Thereafter, I have signed up for Asia’s Next Top Model Season 2 casting and it was another peak for me as I was once again being selected to represent Malaysia and finished the show in the Top 6. However, my biggest achievement and most memorable contest will be the recently crowned title Supermodel International 2016 in New Delhi, India. In which I competed with 30 contestants from different continents like Europe, America, South Africa, Asia and etc. International Contest is very competitive and silent wars are common, one has to be alert or be blasted by mines (Laugh). Initially, I was only hoping to get into Top 15 and was really shocked that I could finish the contest as the winner. The nervousness, excitement and overwhelming happiness that I have felt during that night is unforgettable.

What fashion indulgences do you have?

I always keep myself up to date on the latest trends and sometimes wearing something that is bold and eye catching along with standout jewelry that can be seen from a mile away. My fashion is usually the mixture of trendy and exotic. I refresh my wardrobe every change of season and it is something I enjoy doing.

What’s the sexiest item in your wardrobe?

Woohoo! My black sequins see though swimwear.

Biggest compliment you have received?

“You made Malaysian proud“ ( blush )

Do you have any hobbies?

I am an outgoing person. During my free time I will go for outdoor activities like cycling, badminton and hiking. However, I also practice yoga once a week to improve endurance physically and mentally.

Are there any exciting projects in the pipeline for the coming months?

This year will be the most beautiful chapter in my modeling career. I was given opportunities to visit various countries for campaigns and judging in pageant contests. I have recently been to Thailand and Indonesia for Mister Global 2016 and Miss Southeast Asian 2016 and the next stop will be China, India and Thailand. I will be the MC in several events towards end of this year and that will conclude the new breakthrough in my career this year.

Sexy to me is not how revealing the clothes you are wearing but your characteristic and charisma that shines in you which makes you look extraordinary and attractive. Thank you for having me, it is my pleasure.

The Beautiful Kelly From Winnipeg

Hi Kelly, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Thank you for the feature. I’m Filipino, born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I currently work as a cook at an Italian restaurant. Oh and I’m a twin as well.

How will you describe your fashion style?

My style is both girly and a bit tomboyish haha. I love wearing low cut V-necks dresses, rompers and accessorizing my white purses with a pom pom keychain.

Can you share your beauty regime to looking so gorgeous?

My beauty regime for me is living a healthy lifestyle like eating healthy and exercising and just having confidence in myself. I believe that if you are happy with yourself and the more you love yourself, it will definitely show in your looks.

What is your favorite thing to spend money on?

My favourite thing to spend money on would definitely be food haha! I’m a huge foodie. I love all kinds of food and I’m very open to trying new dishes.

What is the first thing you notice about people?

The first thing I notice about people would be how they introduce their selves. First impressions are important to me. If you don’t talk a lot or don’t even know what to say then you might not have my attention for that long.

Which is the biggest compliment you have received?

The biggest compliment I have received was that I have a nice smile. Haha cheesy I know, but I always used to be self-conscious about my smile back in high school because I thought I looked a bit funny when I smiled, but since I am more confident in myself than I was before, it does not bother me at all anymore. I get so happy when people compliment my smile.

Lamest pickup line or attempt a guy has used on you?

I was shopping with my mom at the mall one day and she left me alone for a moment so I sat down and right away this guy wearing shiny gold tights, comes up to me and says “ Would you like to upgrade to the gold package?’ He stood so close to me with his junk in my face. I literally thought he was joking but he looked pretty serious! All I did was laugh and say no thank you.

If you had a choice of superpower, which will it be and why?

That’s tough one lol. I would say to have super strengths so I don’t have to go the gym all the time haha.

To me sexy is being confident. Setting goals for yourself and working hard to achieve them. Some people always talk about how they’re going to do this or that in the future but if you are passionate about your goals and you do all you can to get where you want to, then that’s attractive in my opinion.

G-string.

Food.

What’s sexy to you?

To me, strong is the new sexy. It need not be the curves or boobs or butt that makes you sexy, really. It is the whole look from top to toe that you give to people overall that makes people go gaga over you. Anyway, what is really true and real today when everything could be enhanced by makeup and cosmetic surgery? Be strong, fit and toned. That’s sexy.

Malaysia DJ And Model Vera C

Hi DJ Vera, it’s a great pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Please share with us a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi, I am DJ Vera C from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I’ve been a DJ for five years and also the founder of Malaysia’s first female DJ group, Jewel Union. Being a DJ has always been my dream, music is my passion, something that I can’t leave without in my life.

How did your interest in being a DJ develop?

As I mentioned earlier, I love music and it has always been my dream to become a DJ however 5 years ago female DJ wasn’t as popular as now, most DJs are male, so I wanted to break the tradition as I want to prove that female DJs are also able to spin, so I formed the first Female DJ Group in Malaysia, and I named it Jewel Union. I was their manager as well as a Jewel Union member and that’s how I started my DJ career.

Who are your major influences?

Tiesto, he is also one of the reasons that I wanted to become a DJ, I still remember I went to a rave and when Tiesto spun everyone including me was crazy dancing, and since then I started to have interested to become a DJ.

You model as well and came in first runner up in the Miss World Malaysia. How is modeling different from being a DJ?

Well, being as a model is totally different from being a DJ. As a model you need to collaborate with a lot of people, such as designers, make up artists, hair stylists and etc, however you normally don’t have to worry about the crowd, you just need to do your best, present the best of yourself in front of the crowd. However being a DJ, you are the main core in the club, you need to see and feel the crowd, you need to know what they like, what type of songs will make them dance. You are the main control of everything in the club, how you spin is how you influence them, and most of the time you are on your own, you need to think how to hype the crowd up.

What keeps you motivated everyday?

Passion, I always tell myself not to lose passion, passion is what keeps me moving and push me getting better day by day. Always remember the reasons why I love being DJ and that motivates me everyday.

Do you have any other hobbies?

Other than music, I love diving too, I have been diving for 7 years, if I wasn’t a DJ I think I would become a diving instructor, *wink*

If you had the chance to collaborate with anyone past or present, who will it be?

It has always been my dream of spinning in IBIZA with tiesto.

Where will we be able to catch you in the coming months?

I will be spinning in velvet on next Thursday 17/3/2016, however if you miss that out you may catch me at Zion Club KL, gonna stay tuned, I will announce the date on my FB page, DJ Vera C.

Actress And Model Tini Wong Is Larger Than Life

Hi Tini, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Can you share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Born and bred in Singapore. Many say I don’t look like my age. I am a Virgo and no one will forget my birthday. I am a beauty junkie (I can be your best shopping partner at Sephora!) and music is how I get through my day. I will never leave home without my earpiece. At first glance, people commented that I have a Resting Bitch Face (which we all can agree, I have) and come across as arrogant but I can be a crazy one once you know the real me.

How did you get into modeling and was it something you’ve always wanted to do?

I started modeling when I was 18. I took on many TF assignments to build up my portfolio and tried different themes. Slowly, I received requests to model for several online stores and more commercial works like Print Ads. Besides photo shoots, I also got hired for events as an Brand Ambassador which pays very well during my time. Recently, I went out of my comfort zone and pursued acting.

Currently, I have plans to set up my own events and talents agency because I love to manage and I believe quality models deserve a better pay and welfare. Don’t get me wrong, there are really good agencies around!

Which genre do you love to model?

High end fashion, bridal, swimsuit and lingerie.

What is your beauty routine like?

Many have raised this particular question to me. I’m glad to share my tips with you. I will cleanse, tone and moisturize my face twice daily in the morning and night time before bed. Scrub and mask my face at least once a week. Make it a point to remove your makeup before sleep. I believe chocolate is NOT the cause for pimples. It’s the oily food you consume, the late nights and also failure to remove your makeup properly. But we girls, cannot blame the menstrual cycle. I will always have 1 or 2 significant pimples on my forehead during that time of the month!

How will you describe your fashion style?

I’m pretty casual. I wear what makes me feel comfortable. You will only see me in heels if its for shoot or events. Other than that, it’s my trusty pair of Melissas!

If you could learn anything in this world, what will it be and why?

I would love to learn the different languages around the world! Nothing is more sexy than being able to speak different languages. In the meantime, I am picking up French.

Which is the funniest attempt a guy has tried to know you and did it work?

I cannot recall any because none are hilarious, just plain creepy. I won’t talk to you unless you are cute so that solely means I am selective to who I talk to.

Will you be in any events or projects where we can hope to see you in the coming year?

I will be starting my full time career soon. Therefore the last (hopefully, not) event you will see me is at the Singapore Yacht Show happening on the 7 to 10 April 2016!

I would try to learn every personality there is, that why I could get along with anyone.

Which is the funniest attempt a guy has tried to know you and did it work?

Oh my. There was this one time a guy “lost” $100. He literally threw in the trash $100 bill and I guess was waiting for me to throw away my drink? (laugh) Like, stalking me from somewhere? I went to throw away my drink and I saw the bill and pulled it out and then I hear some guy yelling “I LOST MY $100 BILL OMFG” and so I took it to him and I was like, “Um, I think you may have accidentally thrown it away.” He replies “Oh, it was no accident.” But sadly, it did not work.

Will you be in any events or projects where we can hope to see you in the coming year?

Yes, I will be at Hot import nights and Raceworz as of right now. Nothing else planned but I will post more on my Instagram as it comes.

Personal Trainer And Fitness Model Jason C

Hi Jason, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Can you share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Thank you for the interview. I am from Singapore and currently I am a certified personal trainer. Besides personal training, I do modeling as well. I joined contests such as Manhunt and CLEO bachelor in the past while I was modeling. Now I am focused more into physique and fitness model competitions.

How do you motivate yourself to pursue and maintain your dedication towards fitness and health?

There are actually two key reasons to my dedication. Firstly, as a short term goal I hope to encourage and inspire my fellow peers who have just started out at their fitness journey. My goal is to compete overseas in hope to achieve some titles in the near future. I hope to be a role model for the younger men in Singapore being able to make that small difference at making a mark for our country on the international platform.

Secondly, I feel like I have a responsibility to my fans, for their ever growing support always. I need to keep myself at my tip top condition, always moving forward, body, mind and soul. I am a man of my word and not someone who is just all talk and no action.

What is your regular exercise regime like?

Generally I work out 5 times a week, hitting different body parts at every session. Currently I am hitting my back twice a week as it is my weaker part and I focus on cardio once or twice a week. Currently I am not preparing for any competition hence I am only doing cardio at this frequency.

Do you indulge in any guilty pleasures from time to time or do you stick to a strict diet?

Yes, my diet is pretty much the same almost everyday and I try my best to stick to it as they contribute towards my goals. I do have my cheat meals like twice a week where I can eat anything I want. My favorite cheat food has to be ice cream!

You’ve won many awards and participated in various competitions before. Which one will you say is most memorable to you?

I would say Manhunt International 2012 was quite memorable. I didn’t win that contest, but I got ranked 5^th across 58 countries, the highest for Singapore ever.

I joined Manhunt during 2009 prior to the 2012 pageant, it has proved to me that this time round it was like a validation for myself. I had improved a great lot. Lastly, it was really heartwarming that my family flew to Bangkok to give me their full support. I am glad I didn’t let them down.

Is there a way to lose weight within a short period of 3 months?

Yes definitely, provided if you were consistent and hardworking enough. Keeping straight to a good diet (diet doesn’t mean not eating anything) accompanied by proper training, losing fats in 3 months is totally possible.

What will you say is the common excuse most people have for not exercising enough?

There are many reasons really, given our busy schedules, I will not say that it’s an excuse. Most people experience problem finding time to exercise, because they think it’s too troublesome. After a long day at work, to imagine that they have to travel to the gym, wash up and work out then wash up again and head back home. This is a common hindrance for most working crowd.

How often do you get girls coming up to you and what is it like?

I get asked this quite often and sadly, I do not get any of them coming up to me. Believe it or not, no girls had ever asked for my number or fb or anything before. So, I am sorry I cannot answer this in an ideal manner. Hah!

Thank you for the opportunity as well. I think sexy has to be from your inner self. Being confident and accepting who you are and not afraid to show your true personality is sexy. There are many people out there trying to be someone whom they are not. I think just love yourself and portray your own personality and people will naturally like you.

Chinese Beauty Lina Lau

Hi Lina, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Can you share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Thank you for having me! My heritage is from the beautiful city Kunming in Yunnan, China. I was raised in Hong Kong and now, I live in Sydney. Kunming is a beautiful city tucked between mountains and crystal clear lakes. It’s a cultural paradise where everything is so close to nature, which means it supplies most of the organic, fresh fruits and vegetables to China. When you go to Kunming, it’s easy to forget you’re in China… it takes your breath away, there really is nothing like it!

How did you get into modeling and was it something you’ve always wanted to do?

I have always had an appreciation for beauty. Poetry and art was really what started it… so modelling was a natural progression for me. It’s this desire to create something emotive and beautiful.

Which genre do you prefer to model?

Anything that allows me to take on an interesting character.

What other hobbies do you have?

I’m more interested in holding a conversation about Tesla, artificial intelligence and quantum physics than talking about fashion and designer clothing. I am a huge nerd at heart and I think my childlike sense of curiosity means I’m always trying to learn new things.

How much of a foodie are you and what are your favourites?

I’m a total food snob. I love quality ingredients that are grown in organic soil. I’m very interested in where my food comes from – how the food left the farm and got onto my plate. I try a new restaurant every week so it’s only natural that I’m now working on a food blog… so watch this space…

If you could learn anything in this world, what will it be and why?

I would love to learn everything there is to know about food cultivation and 3D printing so I can merge my two loves to create a 3D printer that can print any dish in the world.

Which is the funniest attempt a guy has tried to know you and did it work?

Honestly, I have a very hilarious dating history. I could probably write a book about it all… but I’m a lady, so I’ll save that for another time!

Miss Singapore Popularity Winner Gisele Ong

Hi Gisele, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Can you share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hello. Thank you for featuring me. My name is Gisele Ong and I work as an Investment Analyst-Real Estate. I am also a model and ex-Miss Singapore Finalist – Miss Popularity Winner.

During my free time, I dance and play the piano. I started dancing since 5 years old – from my mum, she was a ballet instructor; and I started learning music at 12 years old.

You participated in the Miss World Singapore 2015 contest last year, what made you decide to join it and how was the experience like for you?

My decision to join Miss Singapore was an “accident”. Growing up, I used to watch the competition on TV, and I am always curious what will it be like to be a finalist/Miss Singapore. So one day, when I chance upon the audition, I just… went for it.

I completed two Miss Singapore competitions. Miss Singapore Beauty Pageant 2015 where I emerge as Miss Popularity Winner and Miss World Singapore 2015. My experience with Miss World Singapore was a very pleasant, I learn a lot. The importance of etiquette and networking – what to do, what not to do; but the most important part is, I become good friends with all the finalist.

How did you get into modeling and was it something you’ve always wanted to do?

My modelling career begins right after I completed Miss World Singapore 2015. During my stint as a Miss Singapore finalist, I discover I have a passion for photoshoot. And that’s how I get into modelling.

Which genre do you prefer to model?

I love taking photos. I am moving towards becoming a fine art portrait photoshoot model.

How much of a foodie are you and what are your favourites?

I love eating and I can eat a lot! Sashimi is definitely my favourite! I also like carrot cake, char kway teow and chili crab – typical Singaporean.

Oh, oh, have I forgotten frozen yogurt? – I always tease my friend (the franchise holder of Llaollao) to make me the ambassador of his froyo company. =P

What’s 3 reasons to visit Singapore other than having the chance to catch you?

Awwww, I’m flattered. There are more than 3 reasons to visit Singapore.

But the most important reason is, if you want to get rich, visit Singapore. =P Singapore is a business hub and we have one of the lowest tax rates around the world. The city is also very safe and clean. So it is a place may want to consider – it’s a safe investment haven.

You wouldn’t want to miss out the beautiful cityscape of my country. It’s breathtaking, magnificent day and glittering night views.

Also, Singapore has a unique culture. Multi-racial. Singaporeans are friendly; it will be easy for you to blend in.

Which is the funniest attempt a guy has tried to know you and did it work?

My ex-colleague tried to “score me”, he was drunk and he said it bluntly and openly. Nice try bro, you have a wife, be faithful to her! I’m sorry, but you are not even hot, my body doesn’t crave for you.

SoCal Sweetheart Miss Kitty

Hi Miss Kitty, it’s a great pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

First and foremost thank you so much for taking an interest in me and featuring me in your magazine. A little bit about myself, I’m 23 years old(Aquarius). People are always confused about my ethnicity but I am full Filipino. I was actually born in Santa Rosa Laguna, Philippines. I came to the US at a very young age, but I still keep in contact with my family from the Philippines. I grew up in a small town called Beaumont which most people have never heard of. I am now living in Fresno CA but still occasionally come down to SoCal for my modeling and I will forever be a SoCal Sweetheart.

How did you get into modeling?

The reason how I got into modeling was all thanks to my best friend. He’s a car enthusiast and at one event they needed a model so I thought I’d finally try it out. August of 2014 was my first modeling event. As expected the event went great and my modeling career slowly started getting started. I’m a car enthusiast as well so it worked out well. I’ve never thought of myself as “model material”, but I overcame my fear and insecurities and just dove right in. Everything’s been going well for me ever since.

Is there a dream ride you wish to own?

That’s a hard question for me since I have two dream rides. My first dream car is a 1970 dodge challenger from 2 Fast 2 Furious movie. My second dream ride is an Audi R8 murdered out interior and exterior.

Which is your preferred side when taking selfies?

Definitely my left side. I have no idea why but that’s preferred side.

Do you have any favorite quotes you live by?

I have one quote that I live by which is by Edgar Allan Poe “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.” To me this quote means, to not let life slip right through your fingers. You have to live your life every day to the fullest with no regrets.

How picky are you when it comes to food?

Personally I’m not picky when it comes to food. I’m a total foodie so I’ll try and eat just about anything.

If you had the opportunity to change one thing in the world, what will it be?

I would definitely change the way that society has been so dependent on technology. Growing up, we had to be self-sufficient and independent, and that’s what made me the strong independent woman that I am now. I wouldn’t want my children growing up being so dependent on technology. I want them to be both book and street smart.

What is the lamest attempt a guy has tried to know or hit on you?

Oh goodness I can go on and on about all the lame attempts or lines a guy has tried on me, because it seems like any line a guy has ever tried on me was pretty lame. If I had to choose one it would probably be this one time I was at club playhouse and this man came up to me and said “Damn girl get with me and you’ll never have to lift a finger again babygirl”.

First off, no just no. Secondly, I hate when men prefer to me as bae, baby, babygirl, etc when I don’t even know you.

Thank you for taking your time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

“sexy” to me is how a person (man or woman) holds themselves. Be confident, be original, be smart, be you. That’s what sexy is to me. Confidence is the sexiest trait I think anyone can have.
