What’s Model & Writer Cristals’ Favorite Party Game?

Hi Cristal it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

I am a freelance model, writer, and overall creative soul from Sacramento, California. I’ve lived in four states: California, Illinois, Maryland, and Arizona, and have visited over 40 states. I have two degrees, a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in psychology. I went to school at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and California State University, Sacramento. I absolutely adore collaborating with photographers and artists to create something new and exciting; different and beautiful.  Modeling is a huge passion of mine; it feeds my soul and I love to shoot a variety of genres to keep it interesting.

My favorite things in life are my two little Pomeranians, one is 12 years old and one is a little over a year, watching movies, going to concerts, dancing, eating good food and having late-night cuddle puddles. I am also an Audi (I’ve owned three) and power sports enthusiast, and want to own either a quad or jet ski one day. I absolutely love traveling and experiencing other cultures.  I have visited eight countries so far and hope to travel to Bali and the United Arab Emirates in 2017.

How did you get started into modeling?

I wanted to model ever since I was a kid, but my parents weren’t supportive of it when I was really young.  When I was in high school, I had a friend putting together a bridal catalog for overseas publication.  She asked me to be one of the models and I convinced my parents to let me do it. It was my first paying gig and I was hooked!  I’ve continued to model ever since.  The only lengthy break I’ve taken was recently when finishing graduate school.

What is the best compliment you have received?

My husband asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. I can’t think of anything better.

    Do you have any phobias?

Sometimes I get vertigo when I’m really high up, but no real phobias.  I like to think I’m pretty tough.

    What’s your favorite party game?

    Cards against Humanity.

Which cartoon character do you wish was real?

Scooby Doo, Brian from Family Guy, or any other animated dog.  I’m a major dog-lover!

Who would you want to be with, if stranded on an island?

My husband and our two Pomeranians.

What’s been your worst date ever?

I’ve been on a lot of terrible dates lol. A few years ago, I had a really awkward first date – the conversation was forced the entire dinner and we had nothing in common.  He was extremely boring, but seemed like he was really in to me so I felt bad letting him down. I tried to be as nice as possible when he asked to hang out at my house afterwards and told him I had a photoshoot in the morning so I couldn’t be up late. He wouldn’t give up though, and asked if he could use my bathroom before he left (he was driving quite a way out of the state to go home).

I knew it was a ploy to try to get inside, but said “sure.” When he came in, prior to using the bathroom, he forced his way around my house asking for “the tour.” At this point, I was done being nice and showed him straight to the bathroom.  When he came out, I asked him to go so I could get some rest and his only reply was, “Why are there two toothbrushes in your toothbrush holder?” What a creep!  I finally got him to leave and when he went in for the kiss, I gave a polite handshake, rolled my eyes, and closed the door. I never spoke to him again.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Cristal. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Intelligence, creativity and quiet confidence (not arrogance) are the sexiest traits – and celebrating your own uniqueness!

  • Hong Kong Writer Nadia Tang

    Hong Kong Writer Nadia Tang

Hi Nadia thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Thanks for having me! I am a fashion and movie writer based in Hong Kong, and I am also a Digital Marketer.

    1

What is the inspiration behind creating WEAR?

When I was studying in University, I read a lot of fashion blogs everyday, like Garance dore, the Sartorialist, Jak n Jil….so I am thinking, Hong Kong should have a streetstyle page, not just a column in the magazine, so this is the reason I created WEAR Hong Kong. (The former name is WEAR Hong Kong streetstyle)

How will you describe the overall fashion sense and style in Hong Kong currently?

Polarization. As you can’t really see many fashionable people when you walk around Mong Kwok or even Causeway Bay; there are always full of people, tourists and nothing to capture. But on the other side, I can find some very stylish and fashionable people in Hong Kong. Indeed, they mostly appeared in Central, Sheung Wan Tai Ping Shan Street or Star street in Wanchai. They are more willing to stop by and talk with you. (Some of them became my friends now!) And actually some of the Hong Kong people really have their own style, they are super great.

Is the a fashion trend which you hope will make a comeback one day?

I miss the 80s in Hong Kong. During that time, the singers, movie stars all had strong characters, they can really lead the trend. And most of the people have good taste. For example, Leslie Cheung, one of my favorite and most successful singers in Hong Kong, held a concert in 2003, and all the costumes were designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier; his style was seen as an irreplaceable classic. And people nowadays cannot create “Magic” anymore.  I hope people’s “judgement of taste” can be back.

    2

Which is one clothing or fashion accessory you will never be caught wearing?

    I never wear RED.

If you could have one chance to look into the future, what will you want to know?

I don’t want to look into the future.

What is an ideal first date to you?

Like the movie “Before sunset” or “Before sunrise”, so random and romantic.

It’s a pleasure to feature you Nadia. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Sexy is a kind of inner beauty, a woman that loves what she is doing is very sexy; a woman who loves life and isn’t ashamed to show it, that’s sexy too.

  • CEO and Swimwear Designer Laura Patricia on the Types of Bikini Every Women Should Own

CEO and Swimwear Designer Laura Patricia on the Types of Bikini Every Women Should Own

    Who is Laura?

Hi SimplySxy! It’s my pleasure and thanks so much for featuring me on your cool site. My name is Laura Patricia and I’m of half Sri Lankan and half Filipino descent. I have my own clothing collection called Urban Niche which specializes in swimwear, dresses and gymwear. Apart from that I’ve been modelling part time for about 7 years now and have been very blessed to appear in several local and international magazines such as FHM, CLEO, Debonair and even commercials for brands like Johnnie Walker and Axe. I’m also a freelance travel writer for Leisure Travel Magazine and I do emceeing and event management occasionally.

    2

Tell us more about Urban Niche and how you started it.

I started Urban Niche in 2013. I decided to do it as I’ve always been very passionate about fashion and the latest clothing trends. My focus for the brand has mostly been swimwear as I find that in KL there is sometimes very limited choices when it comes to finding a perfect bikini design that suits your body type. Being a bikini model for so many years, I’ve been truly blessed to meet so many people in the industry including photographers, models and makeup artists, some of whom I’ve become very good friends with. Everyone was so supportive when I decided to start the brand and I got so much help and support with all the photoshoots and fashion shows that it started to escalate really well. I now have a pretty decent following on Facebook and Instagram as well as a store in Paradigm Mall called Red’s Revenge where my merchandise is sold. I’ve also branched out into dresses and gymwear. I find the gymwear doing particularly well this year as there are more and more women getting into health and fitness these days. I’m actually considering venturing into a lingerie line as well next year if all goes well.

    3

What types of bikini should every lady own?

Well to me the most important thing when it comes to wearing a bikini is that a woman should feel comfortable and confident in it. If you feel sexy on the inside you will automatically portray that on the outside as well. Of course one should know their body type while choosing a bikini so that they know what design will fall best on them. I find that a lot of women like the monokinis that are the one piece swimsuits as it gives more coverage in certain areas to cover body parts that they might feel insecure about. Some ladies who are bolder and more daring like the bikinis which come in several types of designs such as bikini thongs, bandage bikinis, tanga bikinis, bandeau bikinis and even Brazillian bikinis. If a woman is keen on getting a perfect even tan, then I would definitely recommend the bikinis with less coverage to achieve that.

    4

    Do you have any hobbies?

Yes I certainly do! I got very into health and fitness about two years back. I try to hit the gym at least 2-3 times a week. I also enjoy yoga and swimming as I find it very relaxing. I used to be a figure skater when I was younger but unfortunately I had a terrible knee injury and had to stop. I still do enjoy skating but can’t do it at such an intense pace as I used to before. For leisure, I enjoy shopping and watching movies during the weekend. I can also play a pretty wicked game of pool if anyone is up for it!

    5

Which is one memorable travel encounter you have experienced so far?

I would have to say my recent trip to Japan just last month was one of the most interesting and beautiful places I’ve ever been to. I was actually there for work to cover a few specific places for the travel magazine that I write for. It was truly a different experience for me as the whole history, culture and beauty of Japan was absolutely intriguing. I was in Osaka for a couple of days, and I really liked the winter fashion for women over there which I found super cute. The food was amazing as well and was definitely one of the highlights of the trip as I’ve always been a huge fan of Japanese cuisine. Apart from that, another memorable encounter was probably my trip to LA a few years ago. I was there as Miss Eaglerider Malaysia at the Long Beach Grand Prix which was so much fun! I definitely dig the Hollywood vibe and I just love the style and fashion over there. Everyone looks like they just stepped out of a movie or a magazine!

    7

    Where do you usually shop?

I absolutely love H&M! I don’t think I’ve ever walked in there without buying something! Lol. Their recent collaboration HM X Balmain was so gorgeous but unfortunately most of the stuff was sold out by the time I got there. Apart from that, I like Miss Selfridge, Bebe, Zara, MNG and Topshop. I’m really into highstreet fashion and the urban look. For lingerie I like Lasenza and Victoria’s Secret as they always have really nice cuttings and cute designs. For shoes, I usually head to Charles & Keith, Aldo, Guess or Vincci. When it comes to makeup, I usually stick to brands that I’m comfortable with like MAC, Sephora, Bobbi Brown and Urban Decay.

    8

What is the most expensive item you have ever splurged on?

The most expensive item I ever splurged on was probably my Burberry Bag. It was a rather ridiculous price for it but it was so lovely I just couldn’t help myself! Lol.

    10

Which is your favorite body part?

I like my eyes. I like the way they’re shaped and I’ve been told by several people I have very feline like features. I think your eyes are the window to your soul and you can always read a person a little bit better by looking directly into their eyes. Plus which man can’t be disarmed with a sexy glance? 😉

    11

Thank you for taking your time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I think sexy is more of an attitude. It is a confidence with a touch of class. Of course I think every woman should groom themselves and make sure they look great for their man and even occasionally surprise him with some sexy lingerie after he comes back from a long day at work. However, it is not necessarily always related to physical appearances but can also sometimes be more of a mental connection you have with someone. To me, being sexy is being ambitious and independent because I think a woman should believe in herself first before trying to impress anyone else.

  • What is an ideal romantic date for model Shanice Koh?

What is an ideal romantic date for model Shanice Koh?

    Who is Shanice Koh?

Hello! I’m Shanice and I’m from Singapore. I currently work as a commercial/events model and also freelance as a creative strategist, graphic designer and writer. When I’m not working, I’m an English and Psychology undergrad.

    4

What are the best perks of being a model?

I like that you can have fun on the job and that you get to meet new people because that means making new friends! And of course, the occasional complimentary items you get to bring home.

Your most memorable highlight or achievement so far?

Being one of the reporters for the inaugural Singapore Youth Olympic Games in 2010.

    What’s your beauty regime like?

Double cleansing is a must and I use an exfoliating scrub and a clay mask twice a week.

Funniest thing that has happened to you?

I can’t think of one haha.

    2

Three things you can’t live without in your wardrobe?

My trusty pair of leather brown oxfords, a basic white top and a figure-friendly printed dress.

If you had the chance to join a reality TV show, which will it be?

    Amazing Race.

Are you more comfortable in lingerie or bikini?

    Lingerie.

What’s your idea of a romantic date?

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I do love a nice dinner with good conversation. Chemistry is important. A romantic restaurant would be the added cherry on top. But to me, what’s most important is the conversation.

    5

One thing a guy can do to catch your eye is?

    Be a gentlemen.

    What’s your definition of sexy?

When the guy is confident, he knows what he’s doing without being arrogant.

  • Be impressed with the all-rounder babe Elizabeth Boon

Be impressed with the all-rounder babe Elizabeth Boon

    Who is Elizabeth Boon?

Freelance Emcee. Lifestyle Writer. Fashion Fiasco. Self-Deprecating. Self-Loving.

I write for Cleo as the magazine’s ambassador. I write about love, life, food, fitness, fashion and everything in between. I’m pursuing a degree in Communications & New Media at NUS. When I’m not sleeping, studying, or fighting the urge to buy a Nobel Prize online (yes, you can actually do that), I’m usually working.

I’m a freelance emcee. I picked up hosting when I realized one of my very limited talents was speaking well. I’ve hosted international and local events, like the 28th SEA Games, Baybeats, YFest and TYR Southeast Asian Swimming Championships. I’ve hosted media launches, festivals, beauty pageants, competitions and roadshows. I’ve hosted videos and recorded voice-overs.

I’m interested in all dimensions of the media. I’ve been a freelance graphic designer, actress and model. I’ve dabbled in photography and production. I’ve also helped produced videos for the F1 Grand Prix.

It might not seem like much but if you keep my self-deprecating personality in mind, you could be rather impressed at this point.

    2

What’s one fun fact about yourself?

Don’t expect me to be a feminine dainty thing because I grew up with two brothers so I’m quite the opposite. I spent every Sunday taking Karate lessons as a kid and stopped only when I got my black belt.

Your most memorable highlight or achievement so far?

One time I stopped myself from pouncing on a guy carrying a box of donuts.

No, but really, I think it would be hosting the 28th SEA Games earlier this year. That was an amazing experience – the opportunity to meet and work with people from so many countries and the chance to be exposed to so many different cultures all at once.

Do you have any preferred fashion style?

I like to keep to a clean minimalist style. I prefer monochrome pieces – my wardrobe’s filled with them.

What’s your secret to looking so fabulous?

I don’t know about looking fabulous but I work towards having a good amount of confidence and offering genuine smiles. I think that’s the secret to feeling good about yourself and hopefully that’s all it takes to look great.

Three fun facts about yourself not many people know of?

I love a good pint of stout. I have about zero tolerance for sugary cocktails.

I am a total sucker for truffle anything. Baby you could add that to any dish and I would be on the floor gasping for air waiting to inhale that.

I’m 23 years old but I still choke on water and get soap in my eye. I don’t know why people trust me to make important decisions.

If you had the chance to time travel, past or present, where will it be?

I’ve always thought of travelling to the past – but not too far back – just far enough that I could pop up and impress everyone with my knowledge of modern inventions and maybe claim some credit for life-saving inventions like the pop-up toaster, or peanut butter.

    3

How big is your shoe collection

If you ask the boys at home: too big.

If you ask me: not big enough.

I have a few expensive branded pairs but I have more from Steve Madden and Dr Martens. I love my heels and platforms but I have days where boots or comfy kicks are all that I need.

What’s the sexiest thing in your wardrobe?

I’m going to be really disappointing here and admit there’s almost nothing. Sorry!

    Your favourite body part?

The mouth because there’s where all the eating/tasting happens.

Or the eyes. I love looking into another person’s eyes because everything is conveyed there.

    What’s sexy to you?

A good sense of humor and chivalry. Some people may reject gentlemanly acts as a part of the whole feminism movement. I’ve heard about a girl chastising a male friend for opening the car door for her – “ I can do it myself!” Girl, you obviously can but it doesn’t mean the sweet gesture shouldn’t be appreciated. I like being treated like a lady and a man’s chivalry shouldn’t undermine any female’s confidence.

Also, confidence and a genuine smile.
