Singapore DJ Vivian Tan

Hi DJ Viva, it’s a great pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and where you are from?

Hi, I’m a DeeJay and I’m from the Lion city, Singapore.

Which genre of music do you spin and are into?

I spin EDM and Top 40s music, I’m into hip hop and trance music, and right now I’m currently learning it!

What makes you unique from other DJs?

I present myself very differently with other DJs, my signature is my hashtag #DJVIVAROCKYOURNIGHT and I’m always wearing a leather jacket when I’m on the decks!

If you had the chance to collaborate with anyone past or present, who will it be?

I would love to collaborate with DJ HARDWELL, a renowned top DJ in the world. It will definitely be a dream come true!

Which has been your most memorable gig or event so far?

The most memorable gig I spun so far, was at BEERFEST ASIA 2016 . I loved the crowd there and they are the most spontaneous crowd I’ve ever come across!

What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

It was a joke coming from a random stranger saying that he lost something, and it’s with me. I asked him what was that, and what he told me was… I stole his heart away from him.

What is the first thing you notice about a guy?

Appearance will be the first (I get to stare at the guy first, before I start noticing about him right?). I can’t help but notice what kind of watches guys wear.

Where do you usually spin and are there any upcoming events which we can catch you at?

I usually spin at F CLUB/ D10 (SUNTEC) / FRESH. You guys can catch me up on my upcoming #DJVIVAONTHEHIGHSEAS. Me and the rest of the DJs will be sailing out and spinning on a cruise!

Sexy is all about personality, I believe that when you’re amazing on the inside, it makes you having a very sexy personality on the outside.

DJ & Music Producer Darling Sabrina

Hi Darling Sabrina, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi SimplySxy, it’s definitely my honor to be featured here, thanks.

I’m Darling Sabrina, a Professional DJ since 2009, a Music Producer, a Drummer, also a Dreamer of course.

How did you get into DJing?

To be honest, I had never thought of becoming a DJ, I just simply love MUSIC, since I was 5. Mom told me that I used to run around the house singing and dancing, especially when there were some guests visiting us, I wasn’t shy at all. I have always wanted to become a singer and a song writer, I picked up several instruments at school and I can still play them pretty well. Well, for some personal reasons, I didn’t make it to continue my studies to be a song writer, neither a singer. I started working in a law firm after I came back from Singapore, I was very young and I did not know where to go, I was kinda lost.

One day, I was randomly drinking with a friend at the bar, he told me that he was a freelance DJ and he showed me how fun it was to become a DJ. I tried to find out more about DJing, turned out it’s really fun! Initially, I started playing for fun, and I eventually made it as my full-time job SOMEHOW. In 2010, I decided to leave my hometown – Ipoh to the big city – Kuala Lumpur for a proper DJ course and for a bigger chance to expand my career as a DJ. I started all over again by learning with turntables at Royale DJ Academy.

Do you feel that the crowd is able to appreciate the difficulties of DJing if they don’t know what is happening behind the decks, or are they just there to enjoy the music?

Well, it depends. Some think that we DJs are just pressing buttons and it seems like a super easy job for them, haha. Some will appreciate everything I do behind the decks, they will love every track I play or they are just very educated in music.

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?

Oh, there are a lot. Hmmmmm, if I have to pick one, it will be – Solarstone & Clare Stagg – Jewel (Solarstone Pure Mix). I even cry sometimes when I listen to it, it’s so beautiful.

How do you see the balance between giving the crowd what they want and treating them to something new?

I will ALWAYS give the crowd what they want, but never forget to play what I love and what I want to show them too. For example, if I am going to play 60 tracks for a show, I will probably play 30 tracks of what everyone may like and another 30 tracks that most of them might not know or might not have heard before. It’s kinda like a music education, of course I will also have to play by ear, it has to be flexible and go along with their reaction. Besides, Interaction plays a crucial role too. My job is to make sure everyone is happy at the end of the night and it’s fair enough!

Does being a DJ make it easier to model as you are already used to the spotlight?

Nothing is easier or harder. I take pride in whatever I do, I do whatever I love, and I love making my passion my profession, my career. I am a typical Sagi, it’s always like this, either I do my best or I won’t even start. I believe if I was not a DJ today, I’ll still steal the spotlight with whatever I do.

What is the longest you have gone without any sleep?

You mean the longest trip or performance? If it’s performance, my record is to spin a 6-hour set NONSTOP. If it’s referred to a trip, I think the most insane one is my first DJ Tour to China. My Emcee and I travelled 5 different cities in 5 days, 3 epic shows and we only had 8 hours (or maybe lesser) of sleep in total of 5 days! But it ended very well and we definitely put on our best show.

Describe the perfect party to you.

I would love to organize my own PRIVATE rave, probably something like A State of Trance? From sunrise to sunset, playing the music genre that I love the most – Trance, for all the people I love, including my family and friends. It might be on my wedding day, so wait for it!

It’s a pleasure to feature you Darling Sabrina. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Sexy is an ATTITUDE, it’s all about how you present yourself. For example, I can be sexy with my pyjamas on, even the way I flip my hair can be sexy too, I don’t have to wear a bikini or undress myself for anyone to define how sexy I am. Sexy is also when a person is being SMART, INDEPENDENT, ADVENTUROUS,

SELF-ASSURED, SOPHISTICATED, and with a sense of HUMOR.

Malaysia DJ And Model Vera C

Hi DJ Vera, it’s a great pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Please share with us a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi, I am DJ Vera C from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I’ve been a DJ for five years and also the founder of Malaysia’s first female DJ group, Jewel Union. Being a DJ has always been my dream, music is my passion, something that I can’t leave without in my life.

How did your interest in being a DJ develop?

As I mentioned earlier, I love music and it has always been my dream to become a DJ however 5 years ago female DJ wasn’t as popular as now, most DJs are male, so I wanted to break the tradition as I want to prove that female DJs are also able to spin, so I formed the first Female DJ Group in Malaysia, and I named it Jewel Union. I was their manager as well as a Jewel Union member and that’s how I started my DJ career.

Who are your major influences?

Tiesto, he is also one of the reasons that I wanted to become a DJ, I still remember I went to a rave and when Tiesto spun everyone including me was crazy dancing, and since then I started to have interested to become a DJ.

You model as well and came in first runner up in the Miss World Malaysia. How is modeling different from being a DJ?

Well, being as a model is totally different from being a DJ. As a model you need to collaborate with a lot of people, such as designers, make up artists, hair stylists and etc, however you normally don’t have to worry about the crowd, you just need to do your best, present the best of yourself in front of the crowd. However being a DJ, you are the main core in the club, you need to see and feel the crowd, you need to know what they like, what type of songs will make them dance. You are the main control of everything in the club, how you spin is how you influence them, and most of the time you are on your own, you need to think how to hype the crowd up.

What keeps you motivated everyday?

Passion, I always tell myself not to lose passion, passion is what keeps me moving and push me getting better day by day. Always remember the reasons why I love being DJ and that motivates me everyday.

Do you have any other hobbies?

Other than music, I love diving too, I have been diving for 7 years, if I wasn’t a DJ I think I would become a diving instructor, *wink*

If you had the chance to collaborate with anyone past or present, who will it be?

It has always been my dream of spinning in IBIZA with tiesto.

Where will we be able to catch you in the coming months?

I will be spinning in velvet on next Thursday 17/3/2016, however if you miss that out you may catch me at Zion Club KL, gonna stay tuned, I will announce the date on my FB page, DJ Vera C.

SEXY to me is confident, a lot of people misunderstand about sexy by wearing less clothes, but to me the way you present yourself, a girl that puts her heels up and walk confidently, showing people that she knows herself well, she loves herself and appreciate her self-values, that’s what I call sexy.

Party with Malaysia’s sexiest DJ, Alexis G

Hi DJ Alexis, it’s a great pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Please share with us a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hi SimplySxy, thanks for featuring me. I am a female DJ from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I started my career as a DJ since 2013 and have been labelled as one of the top 50 DJs in Malaysia, as well as #6 sexiest female DJ in Asia. I have a deep passion for music and I love the party scene.

How did your career in modelling lead to being a DJ?

While I was still in my modelling times, I attended an after party event where David Guetta was spinning. It was then that I fell in love with EDM. Being a model, I had the opportunity to get to know many people from the DJ industry. I found their career very interesting and was intrigued to learn to become a DJ myself.

What are some of the misconceptions people have about DJ’s?

I personally feel many people think that being a DJ is such an easy job and all we have to do is to just look cool and press buttons. I would like to clarify that’s not the case at all. Being a DJ is not as simple as just looking good and pushing a few buttons. To become a good DJ, we have to constantly do a lot of research and preparation on music mashup, stage performance reference, songs update etc.

Where do you get your inspiration to keep the crowd pumping and giving a great performance everytime?

I’m very inspired by Melbourne Bounce and trap DJs such as Will Sparks and Jack U. I feel that their showmanship and song selections are very outstanding and they never fail to pump up the crowd during their performances. I often try to put myself in the shoes of party-goers and ask myself how a DJ could make my night more fun and happening.

You have toured and performed in various countries around the world. How different is the crowd and atmosphere in every city?

The main difference in the crowd from different countries is their taste in music. However, speaking from personal experience, I can see that EDM is widely accepted and enjoyed by people in most cities and the EDM scene is definitely growing day by day.

Which song/songs best describes you?

Bitch better have my money! $$

If you had the chance to collaborate with any musician past or present, who will it be?

Justin Bieber. LOL

Do you get a lot of male fans coming up to you for photos and autographs?

Yes. Most of them are male.

To me sexy is 100% attitude. Sexy is not thinking you are sexy, acting arrogant and flaunting what you have, it’s not how thin or built you are, how much make up you wear, your style of clothing, or really anything that can be physically altered. It is a confidence and personality trait that defines you. It can be found in the way you talk and the way you walk. Generally I find sexy is not how a person looks but the way “are”. Is like I get myself sexy by eating noodles, wearing sweat pants and watching SpongeBob. LOL

Leng Yein – Asia’s Number 1 female DJ

Leng Yein shares more about herself and who she is below so read on!

Hi Leng Yein, it’s a great pleasure to have you on SimplySxy. You have won numerous awards, titles, acted in shows and performed live to thousands of people. If you could pick out one career highlight so far from your ever growing list of achievements, what will it be?

Since I was young, I’ve been a full A’s Student. Then I became a sportswoman in swimming and board diving, representing my state and then the national team. I then moved on to being the most successful young entrepreneur at age 20, having five shops in my hometown, running various businesses and wholesales. When I turned 22, I began to win beauty pageants.

I am Ms Malaysia World, Ms Pahang, F1 GT Queen, straight up to winning the best Car Queen in the world’s largest after market car show SEMA in Las Vegas. I’m on more than hundreds of magazines and a lot of covers, advertisements, commercials etc. Then I became a performing pianist. Now I’m a DJ and recently won the #1 Asia’s Female DJ in FDJ List and DJaneMag. I don’t know which is my favourite coz all achievements are a part of me and part of my life. I love both the scars and the stars.

The audience goes absolutely wild and crazy whenever you spin. How do you get ready for each party before whipping the crowd into a frenzy?

I have the power to hold people’s attention in life. And now I have to hold everyone together in the party and make em happy. It is tougher for me as everyone expects so much from me because I have a pretty face and a sexy body. And they think I could only have either beauty or brains but I am more than that because I do not wanna stoop as low as others expectations and standards. I am who I am because of who I want to be. I made and build myself this way. I never settle for norms. It’s too dull for me. That’s why I could do what people thought I couldn’t. Because I either make people love, or hate me. I don’t do in-betweens. My shows, are exactly like how and who I am. I am crazy.

All your tattoos are pretty cool! Is there a special story behind any one of them?

I owned a tattoo parlor. I just sleeve em coz I wanted some colours on me. I don’t like being dull or living dull. I’m extreme. I’m fun. I’m vibrant. I have so many tattoos but only ONE has a purpose and meaning to it. The one across my shoulder is written “Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk”.

I was going through a super heartbroken period and I flew 32 hours back to Malaysia from the States. I had only one person that I wanted to see. I went to see him at his work place in Malaysia’s #1 Club – Zouk. He is the MC for Zouk Club, my friend of 4 years who is always there for me, watching me through all the downs in my life. I touched down Malaysia and went straight to the club. I just sat there and watched him do his regular thing, hyping the crowd, and I left without saying good bye. I just wanted to see him. He finished his work at 5.30am and he saw how terrible I looked but coz he was working he couldn’t talk to me. So he called me and cared like how he always does for the past four years. He knows I was heartbroken so he spent 5 hours talking to me to make me strong again, because I am always strong and unbeaten.

He told and reminded me everything that he had seen me through, and reminded me WHO I am. He told me “You are the only person I know, who walks the walk and talks the talk. Because You WALKED first, then talked. Whereas most of the people talk first, but they ain’t walking shit.” The call ended around 10-ish. At 12pm, I went to my friend’s tattoo parlor and got it tattooed right on my left shoulder. To remind myself, that I will always be the person who walks the walk, and talks the talk. It has been almost five months now since Feb 7th. And I never stop or slowed down a single bit. I continue walking proud and loud. And will always be walking, this way.

What is playing in your song list right now?

Thinking Out Loud, All Of Me and Yiruma Piano Pieces. I love piano pieces , love songs and slow songs.

Tell us 3 fun facts which your fans might not know?

Basically it is written all over me. I’m Bold. I’m Fierce. I’m Expressive and Fiery. I am un-tamable. I am not for the faint of hearts. 3 isn’t fun enough for me. I always have more than others. I’m an Aries.

What is the craziest thing you have ever done and not regret?

To fall in love at first chat and begins at forever. I am a one man woman. I would kill and die for my man. So bitches, ya better not provoke my man or me. I’m the last bitch you wanna meet.

Are you more of a lingerie or bikini girl?

I’m a birthday suit kinda chick. I love my skin and my tits and ass. Latex, laces, anything kinky and sexy are my thing.

Which is your favourite body part?

My twins and my ass.

As one of the sexiest and skilled DJ’s in Asia, clubbers are guaranteed to have a blast of night whenever DJ Miss Chanel performs. With her deep passion for music and performing to crowds, we talk to the lovely Chanel and find out if she’s a very different person when she is not DJ-ing.

Hi Chanel, it’s a great pleasure to have you on SimplySxy. Can you share with us a little about yourself and where you’re from?

I’m 24 this year. I was raised in Johor Bahru and I moved to Kuala Lumpur since high school. I started spinning since I was 19. Being a DJ is my passion and I take it as a part time job. I am currently doing some own business which is why I don’t really have time to go for any full time DJ job.

The audience goes absolutely wild and crazy at every event of yours. How do you get ready for each party before whipping the crowd into a frenzy?

When I just started this job, I would prepare and arrange my set of songs in advance so that I wouldn’t go wrong. However, I realised I was making a big mistake. Different place / crowds have different tastes in music and arranging the set of songs in advance did not show good results in each place. From my experience, I realised that it is better to play the songs depending on the flow. This is how I assure the crowd will enjoy the night. After all, I love to share the music genre that I love and I enjoy sharing the new mash up/mix.

Do you have any upcoming events where we can look forward to seeing you?

I have been reducing my gigs as I just started my own startup. I am trying to balance my work life and passion. If I can be hands on my startup soon, I will be going to China for a DJ performance in November.

Which DJ’s do you take inspiration from?

Not to mention Armin and Dash Berlin, both are my favorite! DJ Inquisitive from Singapore is also one of my inspiration. He’s one with creativity and a talent in music.

What is playing in your song list right now?

Tell us 3 fun facts which your fans might not know?

You can’t imagine. 1) I love cooking. 2) I love reading books. 3) I started playing piano since I was 5 years old and love it.

What is the craziest thing you have ever done and not regret?

The craziest thing I’ve done… Last-minute decision to travel to the other part of the world with a friend? We booked our flight tickets to Monaco after we had few shots of drinks in the club and we flew with a massive hangover. That was crazy but I gotta say, the best trip ever!

Are you more of a lingerie or bikini girl?

I’m more of a bikini girl. I love outdoor activities!
