    Canadian Pinup Model Miss Satine

I’m a pinup model from Quebec, Canada! I work full time for an insurance company and I do pinup modeling on the side! I love video games, sci-fi movies, anything geek is up my alley!

I’m a shy girl but in front of the camera, I unleash my sexy pinup persona! My husband takes a lot of my pictures, I’m lucky to have him. I’m also a dog and cat mom, I live a childfree lifestyle.

How did you get started into modeling, and why the specialty of pinup?

My father has classic cars, I’ve been going to car shows for as long as I can remember. I had seen a few pinups here and there and I really liked the rockabilly look. I decided to try it for myself and I’ve been hooked ever since!

For readers who might not be familiar with pinup, what does it constitute or mean?

Pinups were made popular in the 40’s and 50’s. During the war, soldiers would “pin up” pictures of beautiful women on their walls. It boosted morale and appeased the troops.

Modern pinups are all about reclaiming the sexiness and sensuality of the vintage era but with modern values. We do it for ourselves, to feel beautiful, confident and sexy. Anyone can be a pinup!

Can you tell us more about Quebec Dynamite Pin Ups?

It’s a pinup club that I started with my girlfriends in 2018. We go to car shows and local rockabilly events and take pictures with classic cars. It’s a club for fun, based on friendship and our common love of vintage and rockabilly!

What is a typical day like for yourself?

I work from home, typical 9 to 5 job. I do pinup modeling evenings and weekends. I do my own hair and makeup. Asides from taking pictures, I enjoy watching Netflix with my hubby, playing video games and taking care of my dogs. Quite a regular, normal life!

If you could collaborate or work with anyone past or present, who will it be?

Bettie Page! Her poses are amazing, I wish she could show me a few tricks! I love her demeanor and her rebel attitude. She defied the norms back in the days!

Have you been in an embarrassing situation before that is funny now when looking back?

I split my pants big time once (like, from top to bottom, my whole butt crack was on display). I walked like that in an office for a while before someone told me. I was embarrassed as hell but now I just hope they enjoyed the view!

What do you not get about the opposite sex?

The desire to share pictures of their private parts with strangers who haven’t asked for them (in other words, dick pics!). Luckily it doesn’t happen to me often!

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Miss Satine. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

It’s not just about what you wear, it’s about how you carry yourself. Sexy is confidence. Sexy is not being ashamed to be who you are and do what makes you feel good. A pair of heels and nylon stockings and I’m ready to conquer the world!

  • Common Misconceptions About Models

    Common Misconceptions About Models

Like everything in life, modelling also has its pros and cons but for myself, it’s had an extremely positive impact on my life, helping me with self-confidence, self-love and the ability to show people who I really am online. But, I also feel like I have to be more conscious of the information that I share with people, and be mindful of the people who don’t have my best interests at heart. Despite all of that, I wouldn’t change this life for any other.

I honestly never wanted to model, but here I am! When I was sixteen, I started getting really active in the gym and I wanted to share my progress with others so I started posting photos of myself on Instagram in hopes to inspire others. When I was eighteen, I moved to Vancouver, Canada to pursue a degree in Communications. I was completely swept off my feet with the new lifestyle that I stopped going to the gym completely, but I knew I still wanted to inspire others.

Initially, I wanted to be a social media influencer primarily through YouTube but I found that after I bought my first camera that I lacked the self-confidence to actually post what I had to share with others online. By fluke, a friend from high school contacted me and asked if I wanted to do a photoshoot with her boyfriend and on a whim, I gave it a shot and the rest is basically history!

I’ve been modelling non-stop since then, having been featured in several publications, the VOGUE Italia website, and the Vancouver International Fashion Gala.

    Favorite Modelling Genres

Every time I shoot a new genre I find myself learning too much about the industry and about my own style but I think modelling in front of urban landscapes with alternative clothes and makeup is the most exciting to me, since I grew up in a small town and the vibe is completely different.

I also love shooting swimwear, as I find it extremely empowering and I think that it inspires other women to feel confident in their own bodies at the beach.

Is Posing In Front Of The Camera Difficult?

Posing in front of a camera takes a lot of practice, but I think that the most important skill to have in front of a camera and in life is self-confidence. When I first started modelling, I had other models and photographers directing me around because I didn’t really know who I was behind the lens, I didn’t have a specific style or image I wanted to portray and I also cared about what others thought of me.

It was until I was working in the industry for 6-8 months that I started growing into my own style and stopped caring about what others thought of me. With a lot of practice and self-confidence, posing in front of the camera will come naturally. It’s your show, so steal it!

    Common Misconceptions About Models

I often hear that models are stuck up and rude within the industry, but from my own personal experience, not all of us are like that. I find that a lot of my followers on Instagram are surprised that I answer their DMs which shocks me. I make sure to reply to every single one of my followers, it might not be a quick reply but I always reply!

The other misconception about models I often hear is that we’re always late, which definitely varies depending on the model. I find that those who are late don’t take their job very seriously, and expect others to wait on them which isn’t fair to the entire team.

How The Modelling Industry Can Improve

Overall, I think the modelling industry as a whole needs to be more accepting of race, size, shapes and flaws! It’s really sad when I hear from people that they don’t feel fully represented in the industry or just in general. Although there has been a lot of positive changes in the last few years, I still think the industry has a long way to go.

Tyler Krueger – I’m a 20 year-old Canadian model born and raised in Tofino, BC. I’m half Chinese and half German, currently living in Vancouver, BC. I’m a third year Communications student, hoping to pursue a job in advertising or post-production in the creative industry!

I started doing small shoots on the local beaches with my friends for my fitness Instagram, but I realized I really enjoyed creating content in front of and behind the lens. I had always wanted to pursue a career on YouTube, but I wasn’t confident enough in myself to speak in front of a camera and post it to the internet. After I moved to Vancouver, I started modelling for local swim companies, and I started building up my confidence in front of others and online- and here I am now! I absolutely love that I get to create everyday and work with so many talented people!

  • What I Love About Modeling

    What I Love About Modeling

I love modeling! I’ve always been really comfortable in front of a camera and my mom used to be a model so it’s always been something that’s intrigued me even before I started taking it more serious

    My Favorite Genres To Model

Commercial is my favorite, and I definitely think I’m better suited as a commercial model so it’s perfect! I think my highlights have been any time I’ve done a television shoot, which is always cool!

What Goes On Behind A Photoshoot

A lot of waiting around. It’s a great way to network and meet new people because there’s usually a lot of down time to talk and hang out.

What Lifestyle Is Required Of A Model?

I would say it’s a good rule of thumb to try to stay in shape, be a nice person, and professional. Professionalism is key over anything though.

    Perks Of Being A Model

My favorite perks are all the free items I get from shoots and the different free food I get to try when they cater it to set!

  • What It Takes To Be An Internationally Published Model

What It Takes To Be An Internationally Published Model

Since age 13, I was my best friends’ muse for art, over the years she photographed and painted me, some of her work that I had featured in was displayed in exhibitions and art shows. When I turned 18, a friend had recommended that I should join some modelling platforms and online websites, I gave it a go, added some photos of myself and overnight I had floods of messages from photographers asking to shoot with me and saying that they wanted to help me build my portfolio. I did some time for print, which is giving your time in exchange for images. After three times for print shoots someone asked for my hourly rate, I was confused and didn’t know what to charge. After a few months, I started gaining quite a lot of paid work for myself and I was published for the first time in January 2018.

I continued to model alongside my philosophy BA degree which was a great part-time job alongside my studies. When I graduated in Summer 2019 I went straight into full-time freelance modelling. I assumed it would only be for a month or so and now it’s eight months later and I have continued to remain a full calendar filled with photoshoot bookings. I have particular enjoyed doing tours around the UK and Europe and really enjoy doing studio days, portfolio builders and events.

Challenges I Face As A Model

My family weren’t pleased when I mentioned that I had got a huge interest online from modelling networking platforms and advised me not to meet up with photographers and organize shoots. I kept my first three months of modelling hidden from my family, snuck out in the early morning and did my makeup in public bathrooms for location shoots.

I first announced my modelling to my family once I was published. I still have issues and there is a huge stigma attached to modelling, especially glamour and lingerie, but my family are proud of me for making my own independent income, however I only share fashion images with my family and friends opposed to lingerie and implied imaged that I show to my fan base and showcase in my online portfolio.

    Common Misconceptions About Modeling

You must join an agency to model? There are plenty of modelling networking sites and lots of ways to promote and market yourself online. There are lots of opportunities to gain paid gigs on your own accord. You can also go and message companies directly. I personally have been agency free for the full three years so far of my modelling career and have till managed to be involved in some big projects. However, being self-employed does take on a huge amount of responsibility; you have to take care of your own tax returns, promotional work and admin, organize your own schedule, sort out travel accommodation etc.

Is The Modeling Industry Very Competitive?

Yes, the modelling industry is competitive. What I do to stand out is offer a completely varied and diverse portfolio. I do all sorts of modelling such as high-fashion, lingerie, pinup, vintage, boudoir, lifestyle and much more. I also always step outside my comfort zone and show people in the industry that I am not afraid to try new things. What I love about freelance modelling is creating your own castings and marketing your own ideas and projects. A lot of photographers don’t know what to shoot and some are blank for ideas, it’s up to you to present clients with as many options as possible when necessary.

    Advice For Aspiring Models

Practice by watching tutorials on how to pose, read books, work on your facial expressions and emotions within images. Do a lot of time for print work with photographers and collaborations to get your portfolio as diverse as possible. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and keep pushing, you will get there eventually.

  • Toronto Published Model Juria Mei

    Toronto Published Model Juria Mei

Often times, being a model, that’s what inspires me the most.

Later, learning the details of photography started to inspire me in my work as well. It made me understand lighting, aperture, ISO and shutter speed and allowed me to become more knowledgeable in the industry – and thus becoming a better model for my photographers as well.

Do you have a beauty regime you follow to look so beautiful?

I never skip on moisturizing and toner. I naturally have drier skin, and moisturizer is my go to for all skin problems.

How do you like to spend your weekends?

I spend my weekends with my family. It’s days I spend prepping for the next week – aka groceries, cleaning, laundry. Nothing too fun or exciting.

Is there any food or drink you don’t take?

I’m not much of a picky eater. My mom was very strict when it came to food when I was growing up – I tend to eat everything put infront of me.

I do tend to stay away from cheese though…

Which was the last movie you watched and was it any good?

Deadpool 2. Need I say more? Haha

If you could have a super power, what will it be?

Teleportation would be my go to super power. Traffic and commute time is the bane of my existence.

What is a lame or funny attempt a guy has tried to know you?

Actually believe it or not, I’m pretty intimidating to a lot of people. I don’t normally get guys trying to get to know me haha.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Juria. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Sexy is confidence in yourself. Confidence in what you do. Confidence in how you do it.

Sexy is how you feel about yourself, not how other people feel about you.
