Sammie Hsachiko – Emcee, Host, Model and Cosplayer

Thank you for having me!

Some of you may know me as ‘Sammie Hsachiko’, Sammie is indeed my REAL name, however ‘Hsachiko’ (pronounce as ‘Sa-chi-ko) ISN’T!

So, to clear your confusion about my nationality and race, I am 100% Malaysian born and raised in Kuala Lumpur. I speak a variety of languages. I am fluent in Mandarin, English, Malay and Cantonese. I also speak a little Japanese as well!

The name ‘Hsachiko’ was created when I started cosplaying because I thought it would be kinda cool to have a Japanese name as most of the cosplayers have them! It is also rather catchy to remember my name.

But I didn’t just create this name without a good reason behind it.

The name ‘Hsachiko’, if you read them in Chinese characters ‘幸子’ (pronounced as ‘Xing Zi’) it means I am my family’s child because my Chinese family name is written as ‘幸’ and ‘子’ means ‘child’ in Chinese; whereas if you read it in Japanese characters ‘幸子’ (pronounce as ‘Sa-chi-ko), it means ‘a blessed child’, which they are both fairly true about me and hence this name has a special meaning to me.

As for work, I am a master of ceremonies (commonly known as emcee), TV host, and occasionally, a model! On top of that, I am also a law graduate from Queen’s University Belfast of class 2016, now a part-time student pursuing my Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP). And yes, I know what you are thinking.

How did you get started into being an emcee?

Speaking in front of the crowd has been natural for me since high school for being the Champion team in English Debating, and the President for English Elocution Club. Perhaps gathering the attention in a room for my gifted model height was rather easy, but that was not enough. I discovered my passion for the stage and interacting with people as I was trained to host all kind of school events, and it had further aspired me to make it as one of my profession.

It has been a long six years for me to continue striving to become a professional emcee. I really love my job as I get to meet new people and I feel fulfilled seeing people enjoy the event with my energetic input!

How did you get started into modeling and cosplaying?

It was a slow progress where I started out as a commercial talent back in 2016 after graduating from Uni (notable previous works including Chacheer Kuaci Malaysia and Masarata Eyewear), and as a photography workshop model if I am not hosting for events.

My modeling career only really started blooming since 2017 onwards. It was sort of by coincidence where I was asked to attend a casting for F1 Grid Girls, I was lucky to be selected and then BOOM! Suddenly I am exposed to so many job opportunities that I had never thought of. From there on, I started working more frequently as a car ambassador for several brands including Volkswagen, Jaguar and Land Rover, BMW, Lexus and etc. I then worked as a Race Queen for several races and major motorsports events in Malaysia and India, including the G2E Expo in Macau. It was quite a spectacular journey as I looked back.

I started cosplaying only after earning my first pot of gold from my jobs. Cosplaying is an expensive hobby and it had been a dream for me since Japanese animes and games are a huge part of my life.

I don’t treat it as an occupation because it is more like a hobby for me to attend cosplay events in my favourite character’s skin!

What hobbies and interests do you have?

Other than watching animes…… Once a gamer forever a gamer! I still love playing arcade games (like Mai Mai or some shooting games) or VR-games like The Rift and computer games like Overwatch. Although I play games way lesser now due to my work schedules, my current new favourite hobby is working out in the gym alone. It is definitely a healthier lifestyle and it gives me that ‘me-time’ to focus on my goals and just being myself without needing to look excellent in make ups and a perfect hairdo.

What is your beauty regime like to look so beautiful?

I hardly get to sleep eight hours per day, so I try to compensate with my diets, by having power naps, regular facial and hair treatments, and going to the gym.

As for my diet, I try to avoid eating processed food, fast food, deep-fried food or very oily food, keeping it as clean as I can by making my own steamed food everyday.

I appreciate the natural taste of every food and it does help making my body feel lighter for workouts and my hectic working schedule.

If I don’t have time to go for treatments, I will do masks at home.

Normally in my weekly routine, I visit the gym thrice a week for an hour and do deep pore cleansing masks and hydrating masks every two days.

And choosing the right make up techniques will enhance my features a lot!

Which is the best compliment you have received?

I really appreciate compliments that are regarding to my work or things I do.

Words like ‘You are so inspiring’, ‘I want to be as awesome as you’, ‘I love your work’, ‘I love your energy and things you share it keeps me going’, are reasons why I keep my principles, continue doing my thing and hold on to the lifestyle I lived.

The best compliment so far was I had a follower tell me in a private message: ‘Thank you for reminding us what life is about and meant to be.”

I am not perfect but I am happy if I can be someone’s motivation or support in this cruel reality. It’s all about making a difference in someone’s life.

If you could learn anything in this world, what will it be?

Hmmmm, I think I would pick up some martial arts because it’d be cool and it is good to learn self defence.

What is an ideal date to you?

An ideal date should always come with good food, good companion and a good listener. I enjoy deep talks and intellectual conversations. Let’s talk about the universe.

People who message me just the word ‘hi’ and say nothing else. Seriously, at least start a proper conversation if you really wanna know me. Haha.

Australian Burlesque Performer Nona Mona

I’m Nona Mona, a burlesque performer and part time radio host from Adelaide South Australia. Occasionally, people entrust me with a microphone to emcee their shows… brave souls!

How will you describe your fashion style?

I would have to say I am pretty casual, nothing beats jeans, a singlet and sneakers. When it is time to step it up though, I’d describe my style as classic elegant and glamourous.

Are there any fashion accessories you can’t live without?

I’m a handbag girl, mainly because I carry so much crap. You need a mint after dinner, I got you covered. You need a tissue because you cried at the movies, bam! Climbed some stairs and now you can’t breathe, I’ve got a spare inhaler etc etc.

What is the best compliment you have received?

“I didn’t realise I was getting a comedy show with my lap dance”

On a scale of 1-10, how much of a party animal are you?

A solid 10…. oh sorry I read that as “how much do you party with animals”. I was like, um I love hanging out with my cats!

Generally a 6, I’m pretty over the party phase these days. Give me seating, no line ups, clean toilets and decent vodka, watch me rage the night away in my chair. Don’t get me wrong, there are the odd few that have had to witness level 10 Nona, but that’s sometimes food.

If you could meet with anyone past or present, who will it be?

100% Robin Williams.

Do you have any hobbies or interests?

Absolutely love reading, drinking coffee and eating pastries. In no particular order. I’m obviously a very interesting person.

What turns you off on a date?

When a person talks about their ex, has bad breath and tries to halve a bill.

Singaporean Actor & Host Munah Bagharib

I’m an actor and a host in Singapore. I love adventure, getting up to crazy odd things (very vague I know) and cats.

What do you enjoy most about acting?

It’s the process of building the character that excites me and tapping into emotions and memories that I’d never usually go into. I’m a very guarded person and I used to never allow myself to “feel”. Not in front of people at least. But there is something about acting that liberates me to feel.

Which is your most memorable photoshoot or acting experience so far?

Oh man, this is a tough one. I guess I resonate most with the works where it has challenged me and my abilities. If I really had to pick one, it would be my first monolouge piece that I did as part of an arts festival. It was called, “Ana” and was part of Teater Ekamatra’s Projek Suitcase. It was the first show where I had to allow myself to be vulnerable.

And to be vulnerable alone, in front of complete strangers, was nerve wrecking. But it changed me and forced me to be brave. Like literally forced me because you know, the show had to go on despite the crazy nerves. Haha. It was also a piece that spoke to me and is a story that is close to my heart – it spoke about woman’s strength, courage and faith.

What is the best compliment you have received?

Haha, that I’m more than meets the eye. 😉 That was nice to hear and to know.

How will you describe your fashion style?

At this point in my life, I’ve begun to like sophisticated edginess. Something bold yet tame at the same time, when I’m dressing up for an occasion. But on my off days, I like to keep what I wear casual.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or learn but haven’t had the time?

Piano lessons! I’ve been meaning to take them so that I can start playing with my mum. Is this a third degree question? Are you trying to remind me to make time for it in my schedule?

Taiwanese Model, Actress & Host Joye

在台灣出生，在台灣長大，但去年開始因為工作的關係來到日本，目前在日本也繼續從事模特兒的工作，不過台灣的工作也還是沒有間斷，因此現在比較像是日本台灣兩邊跑，但大部分時間都還是住在日本。

台湾で生まれ、台湾で育っています。去年から仕事のため、日本に来ました。日本でもモデルの仕事を続いています。台湾での仕事も続いてやっていますので、台湾日本行ったり来たり感じとなります。でも基本は日本にいる時間の方が長いです。

I was born in Taiwan and also grew up in Taiwan. Last year, I came to Japan because of my work and I continue to work on models in Japan. However, Taiwan’s work has not stopped. Therefore, it is now more like Japan and Taiwan running on both sides, but I still live in Japan most of the time.

What hobbies do you have?

喜歡寫部落格、喜歡被拍照、喜歡旅行也喜歡料理（特別是做蛋糕跟點心），

不過因為工作很多，所以有時候假日也喜歡一整天窩在家裡。

ブログを書くこと、写真を撮られること、旅行と料理(とくにはケーキやクッキーを作る )を大好きです。

でも仕事がとても多いので、たまに休みの日に一日家でゴロゴロすることも大好きです。

I usually like to write blogs, take pictures, travel, cook (especially cake or snacks). But I have a lot of work usually, so during holidays I like to stay home all day, sometimes.

What is your secret to looking so beautiful?

謝謝你的稱讚，我覺得女生的化妝很重要，同時自信也很重要，雖然我對自己還是沒有100分的自信，但我一直希望讓自己看起來更好。

Thank you for your compliments. I think a girls’ make-up is very important. At the same time, self-confidence is also very important. Although I still don’t have 100 points of self-confidence, So I always hope to make myself look better.

Which is your favorite food you like to eat?

最喜歡的食物就是燒肉啦！當然也很喜歡生蠔！基本上沒有討厭的食物。

一番大好きな食べ物は焼肉です、もちろん牡蠣も大好きです。嫌い食べ物は基本がないです。

My favorite food is grilled meat, and of course I love oysters. There is no basis for disliking food.

Where do you love to shop from?

工作繁忙的時候，擠不出時間的時候總喜歡在網路上買東西。

不過如果是和朋友一起出門的話，在日本就喜歡去澀谷，在台灣的話則會到忠孝敦化捷運站附近去逛逛。

仕事が忙しいので、時間がない時に、よくネットショップ買い物します。

友達と一緒に買い物をしに行くなら、渋谷の方が多いと思いますが、台湾でしたらMRT忠孝敦化駅の近くがよく行きますね。

I am busy with work, so when I have no time, I often shop at online shops.

But I go shopping with friends, I usually go to Shibuya in Japan, but when I come to Taiwan, I will be close to the MRT Tadataka Dunhua Station for shopping.

What type of movies do you like to watch?

我喜歡看科幻電影，特別是跟宇宙還有外太空有關的科幻電影，另外也非常喜歡讓人心驚膽戰的動作片。

私は特に宇宙関連のSF映画を見るのが大好きです。また、人々を緊張させるアクション映画も非常に好きです。

I especially love watching science fiction movies related to space. I also like the action movies that make people nervous.

If you can travel anywhere for a holiday, where will you go?

如果不用考慮任何因素可以選擇一個地方的話，想要到希臘，在網路上看過非常多希臘的照片，總覺得希臘是個浪漫又迷人的地方，希望有機會可以到希臘旅行。

何も考えなくても大丈夫でしたら、ギリシャへ旅行をしに行ってみたいです。よくネットでギリシャの風景の写真と建物の写真を見ましたが、とても魅力的な、綺麗なところだと思いますので、ギリシャに行ってみたいです。

If it is okay without thinking anything, I would like to go on a trip to Greece. I often saw a photograph of Greek scenery and a picture of a building on the internet, I think Greece is a very attractive and beautiful place and I hope I can going to Greece someday.

What is an ideal first date to you?

我很喜歡看漫畫，所以也常常看著漫畫在幻想，一直想著會不會有哪一天漫畫中的情節可以發生在自己身上。對我來說，第一次的約會並沒有特別說一定要去哪裡，但是希望可以有一點點驚喜感跟神秘感，當然，最重要的是千萬不可以沒訂計畫，沒有目標的到處亂走。

私はよく漫画を読んで想像していますので、いつか漫画みたいシーンが起きられると期待しています。私にとって最初のデートはどこに行っても構いませんが、サプライズだけが欲しいです。または、一番重要なのは、計画を立てずに、デートするのは好きではないです。

I like to read comics, so I always like comics to happen. No matter where I go for the first date, I hope to have full of surprises, but also a bit of mystery. The most important thing is that you must not have plans.

其實對我來說，裸體並不等於性感，我認為要帶著那種隱隱約約，想看又看不到的感覺才可以被稱為性感。當然的，眼神、表情還有當時的整體氛圍也都是可以作為稱不稱得上性感的一個要素之一。

セクシーと裸は同じものではないと思います。ちょっと見えるほど見えないの方がセクシーと思います。もちろん目線や表情や全体的な雰囲気などをすべて拘ったら、セクシーと言えると思います。

Sexy is not necessarily to be naked is sexy, vague people want to see and cannot see, at the same time with the eyes and expression, all in place, and for me it is sexy.

I am a host, emcee, speaker, and youth ambassador for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. I have been in the United States for 6 years before I made a decision to come back to Malaysia to continue my PhD research, and reach out on psychological issues through the media. I have gotten my PhD in developmental psychology and use my knowledge to speak, write in columns and also through my work with the National cancer society of Malaysia.

What is the best compliment you have received?

You inspire me.

What is a typical day like for you?

After waking up and making my breakfast, it’s to rush for meeting or to host an event, lunch, followed by a shoot or interview with a magazine, workout, dinner, and of course some rest and catch up with the family before bedtime. If the event I host spans a day, then my entire day is taken up for the event.

Tell us 3 things you love most in your wardrobe!

My jackets, one piece dresses, and handbags.

How much of a travel adventurer are you?

Too much, I am constantly wanderlusting.

If you could time travel, where will you choose to go?

To the future, just because I want to see how it’s like :p

Which food best describes you?

Rice.

What can a guy do to turn you off on a date?

Talk about himself constantly.

What do you enjoy most about modeling and acting?

I actually enjoy modeling and acting for two different reasons.

I enjoy modeling because I love to read the body language of other people, and with modeling I get to tell other people a story of my own in only a photo. I feel that all models should have a huge range of showing different emotions. With modeling I am also able to appear like more of my own personality unlike acting. Modeling feels more sincere to me in a way.

But then again, with acting, you get to create a character that you admire or strive to be to convince your audience of your talent. Acting and modeling are two entirely different worlds for me, but they both keep me on my toes which is exciting!

Is there a favorite quote or motto you live by?

“If there’s no light at the end of the tunnel then don’t take the road that leads there.”

It’s kind of my own quote that I live by meaning: If you sense or know something or someone is wrong for you, don’t be surprised when things don’t go as hoped.

Just keep moving forward and learn from your mistakes. And understand that sometimes things are a blessing in disguise. Everything happens for a reason.

Actor, Host & Model Ami Park

Hi Ami it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. How did you get started into showbiz?

I’ve always been interested in being an actor since I was very young, but I didn’t act right away. I got my foot in the door by doing commercials and print modeling since I was 8, but then was able to audition for theater, films and TV shows during college. I graduated with my Theater Arts degree at Boston University and went to Los Angeles to continue pursuing acting after graduating this May!

What is the most challenging assignment or event you have done so far?

I’m not sure if I have one in mind, but as of now, the most challenging task was prolly when I had to do various performances in different projects at the same time throughout college. Being in that conservatory setting really prepared me for post grad life, and I felt like my endurance was really being tested.

Which is the worst fashion disaster you have laid your eyes on?

Hahah the worst fashion disaster is prolly when I see two completely different patterns with clashing color schemes that don’t match at all. But hey, I’ve seen some people pull it off super well! 😉

What is the best compliment you have received?

People tell me I am a ray of sunshine and that my smile brightens their day. Hearing that makes me incredibly joyful every time 🙂

If you could choose to learn anything in this world, what will it be?

I would love to be fluent in as many languages as I can! Think that it’s amazing how much you can connect with others just by knowing how to understand their language!

What is the lamest pickup line or attempt a guy has tried to know you?

“You’re pretty cute for an Asian” (straight up disrespectful and so unflattering)

Do you have any exciting plans for 2017?

Yes! I’m going to be in two projects and will be filming them in January! Other than that I’m excited for pilot season and what this season has to offer. It’s going to be such an exciting year, I can feel it 🙂

Lookwise, sexy to me is when I can be confident in my own skin and fully love and embrace my own unique qualities. Personality wise, sexy is being curious about the world around you, and being passionate about something and chasing after it.

I was born in Oceanside California and raised in Lincoln Nebraska. Since graduating high school at 18 I have lived in Mississippi, California, Utah, Nevada, Texas, Florida, and now back here in Los Angeles. I did door to door sales for two years and waitressed until I started local modeling in Austin Texas. From there I moved to Pompano Beach Florida and fell upon the opportunity to do some adult acting work and fell in love with acting.

I then picked up a mainstream agent and started my career in mainstream acting. So far I have filmed on Baywatch, Ballers, MMA Bellator, Investigation Discovery, and did voiceover work for “The Red Road”. After settling in Los Angeles I met a casting agent/documentary writer, David Cole who decided my life will be a great topic for a documentary for Netflix that will hopefully be out later this year. My career is definitely just beginning, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

What is your beauty secret to looking so gorgeous?

My native American genes don’t hurt, but I am a natural freak. I drink about a gallon of water a day, eat mostly vegetarian, I wash my face with grapeseed oil and water, and I only wear makeup for shoots/work.

Which is the craziest thing you have ever done and not regret?

The craziest thing I’ve ever done.. Well I slept 4o feet in the air in a hammock in a tree every night for 3 weeks with my dog in Nebraska, packed up into my Jeep every morning, and waitressed every night, in between housing while waiting for my door to door sales gig to start in Las Vegas. One of my most amazing experiences.

What type of music do you listen to?

Country and Classic Rock.

Do you believe in any superstition?

I believe in energy. I talk to the universe daily and I believe in the law of attraction and the power of the mind.

If you could be a superhero, what will be your super power?

If I could be a superhero, I would want to control the weather.

What do you find most attractive about the opposite sex?

I love eyes and confidence.

Worst pickup line or attempt a guy has tried to know you?

The worst pickup line I’ve ever had used on me was “Hey, your eyes are the same color as my porsche”.

Again, confidence is huge. My envision of sexy is a confident, motivated, intelligent, open minded, little wild, healthy, badass business man.

International model, actress and host Isabelle Du is the eBay queen!

Who is Isabelle Du?

A born and raised Californian native, I’m currently based in Los Angeles as an actress, international model and host. Currently, I’m a series regular model on the 2015 Critic’s Choice Award Winner: Syfy’s Face Off. And last year, my boyfriend and I raced around the world on the 25^th season of the Emmy award winning show The Amazing Race. Some of my previous work has included FHM, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Tresemme, and Urban Outfitters.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?

I’m a total point hoarder. I’m completely obsessed with earning and redeeming points for things – from free cash to gift cards to massive amounts of airline points. I have all kinds of apps that I use on the daily. There’s one where I’ll take photos of my shopping receipts and earn cash for it. I become so completely consumed with earning points that if I see a random receipt on the ground, I’ll have no shame picking it up just to take a photo of it, haha! People have scoffed at the idea but I genuinely have so much fun with it. Plus, little do they know that so far this year, I’ve earned about over $800 in free money just by collecting points.

Do you have any hobbies?

My friends call me the eBay queen. I sell anything and everything online actually. From eBay, Poshmark, Threadflip, Tradesy, Mercari, I love signing up for all kinds of online marketplaces. Some of the most surprising things I’ve sold have included toilet paper rolls, coupons, and junk mail. They’re not kidding when they say that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure!

Most embarrassing thing you’ve done?

When I lived in Vietnam, I used to ride around my gold motorbike Goldie. Going for dinner one night, I parked Goldie outside the restaurant and placed my helmet on the bike. As I walked inside, I noticed that everyone had their eyes on me. I thought maybe it was because I looked good that night and strutted my way to my friend at the table.

She stares at me too and then asks me, “What’s that on your head?!” The inside of my helmet had somehow detached itself from the outer part so I had this ridiculous white Styrofoam molding on top of my head the entire time. From parking my bike to walking into the restaurant and then sitting down, everyone was staring at my arts and crafts version of a helmet! When I took it off, the entire restaurant started laughing. I had no choice but to laugh it off.

One thing you can’t live without?

If we’re talking about a tangible thing, there’s nothing really that I absolutely need. I’ve had to move around a lot and so I prefer to live as minimally as possible. But if we’re talking about something intangible, I’d say hands down– love. Whether it’s from our family, friends or significant other, we all need it to feel human.

If you had the chance to meet anyone, what will it be?

My spirit animal. I wonder if it’s a hamster.

Are you more comfortable in lingerie or bikini?

I could easily live in both. Actually, I totally do.

Which movie character best represents you?

I’ve been told that I’m like Lucy from I Love Lucy. Everyday is like a new day of antics for me.

What’s the sexiest thing in your wardrobe?

My vintage mink fur coat from the 1940s that I got from the San Francisco Treasure Island flea market. With tears in the seams, it’s not in the best condition unfortunately. But I still love it because it makes me feel like a Hollywood starlet back in time.

A must have in your life is?

Tricky, tricky. This question sounds quite similar to the “one thing you can’t live without” one. Although, “a must have in your life” sounds like there’s lower stakes at hand. Right now, I’m going to say podcasts, I’m obsessed with “My Wife Quit Her Job” and “This American Life”. I can’t do my LA commutes without them. You should also ask what’s a “NOT must have in your life” so that I can answer top 40’s radio. Bleh!

What’s sexy to you?

Men who wear trench boots. Sobriety. Chivalry. Men who are proudly feminists. Wit. Fathers who are there for their kids. Hilarious comedians who use expletives sparingly. Humility. People who think quick on their feet. Confidence, not arrogance. Hand-written letters. Being well-traveled. And a constant desire to improve one’s self.
