Graphic Designer & Cosplayer Kitty Bella

Kitty Bella here! A Malaysian cosplayer. I’m a graphic designer and I do Cosplay as a side thing but I’m planning to establish a career out of it. I do ero-cosplay occasionally as well.

How did you get started into cosplaying?

I started when I was 16, I grew up with Japanese culture. I have always been amazed and interested in anime, games, music and even drama. I started drawing because of anime as well. So when I found the cosplay community here in Malaysia, the interest grew when I think that I could finally dress up like my fave characters. But I stopped to focus on my studies and then work. Over the years, I developed severe social anxiety. So I didn’t have the courage to do it.

But thanks to my girl, she pushed me to get out and do what I want to do, which is cosplay and go to anime cons. She gave me courage and accompanied me to cons. She is my biggest reason why I started to cosplay again and well – here I am!

Which is a memorable cosplay experience you have had so far?

When I was still having doubts about myself, few people approached me to take pictures with me. I felt like I have more courage and to be more confident with myself. The most memorable one is definitely my first cosplay photoshoot with my girl as Aerith and Tifa duo.

Do you have any advice for someone looking to get started into cosplay?

Don’t be afraid, have more confidence in yourself and don’t compare yourself to others. You will get there, trust me. Do what you like, cosplay characters that you love even if not many people know about it. Do it for yourself and not for others.

What is a common misconception about cosplayers you usually hear?

As a girl, they tend to say girls are just cosplaying for clout and are not actually interested in anime, games and comics. Which is completely wrong. Most girls that cosplay are actual nerds, i.e ME! Most of us are gamers, avid anime watchers and even collecting comics and figurines.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or learn but haven’t had the time?

One of my goals is to be a tattoo artist. I love arts in many forms. But tattoo seems to be my calling. I am planning to take up courses and become a tattoo artist, hopefully this year!

    Which flavor best describes you?

Sweet and Spicy. I can do both. I can be a very sweet person but I’m actually a very honest person and can tell someone to their face of their wrong doings. Even if it hurts, being honest is the best thing to do.

What is a funny or lame attempt a guy has tried to know you?

When they pretended to know me or have seen me somewhere on social media but can’t remember my social media handle so they asked what my socials are. Hahaha.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Kitty Bella. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

When someone is confident in their own body. One can be naturally sexy without doing any sexual actions. But when they exude the energy, that’s definitely sexy!

  • Graphic Designer & Content Creator Bella Ang

Graphic Designer & Content Creator Bella Ang

Hey there! It’s my pleasure to be featured on SimplySxy. I am from a little town in Penang, Malaysia, but currently live in Kuala Lumpur. Currently I am working as a Graphic Designer in KL, Malaysia. I was a barista for 6 years but I want to take on challenges and try on new things so here I am, a graphic designer.

Although I am a full time designer, I am still accepting students who love to learn latte art and teach them how to make their own cup of coffee. Besides that, I am also a content creator on Instagram. I love to share photos, honest product reviews, and I love to make videos too! I love it when my audiences love to watch those aesthetic videos that I made, and when my honest reviews help people to know which product they need, so they won’t waste their money to buy something that wasn’t suitable for them.

I am an adventurous girl. I love unknown adventures and exploring places that I have not been to. But due to the pandemic I can’t continue my dream. My bucket list is get a diving license, parachute, watch the aurora with the love of my life, drive a caravan on Route 66…

What is your fashion style and where do you draw inspiration from?

I always love vintage styles, no matter if it is from America, Hong Kong or Japan. And my inspiration always comes from Audrey Hepburn. My mum had a good sense of fashion when she was young  she had a lot of tailor made outfits, but she gave it away after I was born. She regrets giving them away because vintage style is still a trend nowadays, and I could wear her old outfits.

Are there any beauty products that are a must have in your collection?

Lipsticks! Once I stayed over at my friend’s house but I forgot to pack all my skin care products and other make ups, the only beauty product that I brought was my lipstick. Because if I did not put on my lipstick, I would look pale and everyone would start asking me to see if I was sick.

How do you decide and choose the content to blog about?

Most of the time I will decide if the content is what my audience loves to see, and would my content be helpful for them? So I always will be sharing some experiences, product reviews, life hacks that I found useful, and sometimes just sharing some positive vibes to cheer people up!

If you could change one thing about the world, what will it be?

No war and no crime, so that I can have my solo adventures to more beautiful countries safely. I always love to travel and one of my bucket list is to travel alone to all the beautiful countries. But there are still some places that aren’t safe enough for girls to travel. Although I love adventure, but I don’t want my parents to worry about me.

Have you been in an embarrassing situation before that is funny now when looking back?

I believe that everyone have their embarrassing moment back then especially when we were young and dumb, same goes to me! When I was 60kg, I went to a gym and asked about the class and their price. The girl who worked at the gym explained to me about the class, but at the end she asked for my friends and family contact so they can sell them their gym class. I didn’t want them to disturb my friends and family so I faked some numbers and names.

I literally don’t know why I named my mum Alex, which is my brother’s name, so laughing it out loud, and that girl was staring at me like ‘What the hell is this girl laughing about?’. I thought I would never see that girl again but when I went to a free trial gym event, she was still there and she remembered me! She was like ‘Hey Bella! It’s been awhile since I met you! Why have you not registered at our gym?’

Which 3 types of food do you love most?

Japanese food (especially sashimi!), poke bowl and yogurt bowl!

What is an ideal first date to you?

Maybe for other girls their ideal first date will be something fancy, but for me, having fun in a funfair, having coffee and chit chatting about us, finding something interesting in a flea market, and enjoying the sunset by the beach.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Bella. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Being confident, wear whatever you love for yourself, and makeup to feel pretty.

  • Content Creator & Graphic Designer Ruth Azenath Yap

Content Creator & Graphic Designer Ruth Azenath Yap

I’m Ruth Azenath Yap, currently a student taking up Art Studies in University of the Philippines. I started exploring the things I like doing a lot last year and now I am a content creator, social media manager and a graphic designer who is based in the Philippines.

What inspires your fashion style and where do you love to shop from?

My fashion style is actually inspired a lot by my friends. I have tons of friends who are also in the field of arts and most of the time…they would put up an outfit for me! Me and my friends love thrift shopping a lot which also led us to open our own Instagram thrift shop last year.

How much of a foodie are you and what are your favorites?

I looove food so much. I think desserts have a special place in my heart. I can skip all my meals but I can never skip on dessert. I love eating ice cream and gelato the most! If you would also consider coffee a part of this, I think coffee will win over my heart.

Do you have any hobbies or interests?

As an art student. my hobby is actually drawing and writing. Although I rarely write nowadays. Some of my other hobbies are singing, playing the guitar and doing random photoshoots.

Which 3 things do you recommend every tourist to experience in the city you live in?

Theree of the things I recommend for tourists to experience are all inside Intramuros in Manila. They should go around Intramuros and experience the different food, the architecture and the culture inside it as it really gives you a glimpse of how things used to be.

Have you been in an embarrassing situation that is funny now when looking back?

I cannot really think of anything for this, except for the times I would always bump when riding in a jeepney back then. My height is 5’10 by the way, so whenever I will ride or go down from a jeep, I would always always bump my head on the ceiling!

If you could learn anything in this world, what will it be?

If I could learn anything in this world, I would really love to learn how to not give a damn about what other people think about me. I know that a lot of us struggle with this, and learning this would just make life so much more lighter.

What do you not get about guys?

I just do not get how you can send them a text with multiple important points, but the only one they’ll reply to is the least important question you were asking.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Azen. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I would define sexy as being comfortable in the things that you love wearing.

  • Designer & Micro-Influencer Ariel Beninca

    Designer & Micro-Influencer Ariel Beninca

What I do centers around creating beautiful brands and digital experiences though I can’t sum it up in one title. I am a web designer, graphic designer, UX/UI designer and front end developer. I also do marketing for businesses. Outside of my work I love creating beautiful content for Instagram and I’m a bit of a micro influencer on Instagram.

I love living a healthy lifestyle. My interests often get changed-up though I enjoy things like playing chess, watching anime, history, science, stock trading, economics and world affairs. I am from the Sunshine Coast, I moved to the Gold Coast for uni and then Brisbane for work. I love Brisbane.

Was design and art always a big part of your life growing up?

No it wasn’t, my family was not well off and I grew up in the bush, sometimes living in caravans, sheds and even shipping containers. Though in school, I always wanted to make things look pretty and won many art contests. Even story book writing competitions for my creative stories and pretty pictures. Everything I did I put creativity into it.

When I finally got access to a computer, I loved playing Sims to design beautiful houses and people. I originally thought about being an artist but then my art teacher was like, “Don’t do it, you will be poor like me.” Later on in my life, I realized art was never my passion, or my biggest skill, it’s creating beautiful, organized, and easy to use things. It’s solving problems through design. When I decided on being a graphic designer, people told me “it’s a very competitive industry” and my response has always been, “I’ll be the competition”.

What is it like to be a graphic and web designer?

I saw a meme the other day that said, “I hate clients but love money”, and it resonated with me so much.

To be honest, being a web and graphic designer can be a nightmare when working for a bad client, or under bad management. Being passionate about what you do and caring about your work can turn against you in corporate politics. Micro management, bad design decisions by stubborn management, unrealistic expectations, frustrating conversations, justifying everything and even explaining to people why design should matter in the first place – a reality I did not expect when being a hopeful passionate design student.

But when you’re working on your own project or for a good client, there can be so much passion and creativity – it’s exciting to create something that goes out into the world, that people will see and use every day.

Experience Oz – Branding, UI/UX Design & Front End Development

Which is the best compliment you have received?

You were born to be a designer

How is a typical day like for you?

I wake up around 6am, make my bed, sometimes go to the gym, come home and make myself a cup of coffee to start the day at my desk. I put my oil diffuser on and say, “Hey Google, play low fi hip hop beats.” Then, I’ll spend the next hour answering emails, realizing I have somehow ended up online shopping instead of doing work. I then try to get into focus mode and work on my client’s job.

Throughout the day I play live chess matches on break. By 4pm I am like, where the hell did my day go? Then before I can blink, it’s dinner time and I’ve only done 4-5 hours of billable client work as I only track time working on the project. On days like today, I try force myself to stay up late to try be more productive haha.

City Beach – UX & UI Design

On a scale of 1-10, how much of a foodie are you?

    10 – OMG I love food.

I love yummy vegan food, and love to cook.

If you could be a fictional character, who will you be?

I am vibing Beth Harmon from The Queen’s Gambit, without the drug issues though.

What turns you off on a date?

When I would go on a date with a non-vegan and they make remarks like, ‘I could never go vegan” or “I love meat too much” or “I need too much protein to go vegan” or “This is good, for vegan food

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Ariel. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

    A beautiful design.

  • What I Love About Being A Design Student

What I Love About Being A Design Student

A lot of people do not realize how much graphic design touches the lives of each individual, and the subconscious pleasures and ease it can bring. Graphic designers understand the material of the subject, for example, the nature of a brand, then create a unique and fitting design that communicates the message.

Graphic designers are not just artists, but also problem solvers and build understanding in people. It is a visual language and has a much more impact and influence on our lives than it seems.

Being Interested In Design Since My Childhood Days

I took art classes since I was a child, took on art subjects in secondary school and pursued communication design for my diploma. I used to love doodling on everything from walls, textbooks and even my own skin!

It is something I really found joy in and soon realized I had talent at. Why let it go to waste when I saw that it could potentially be my career path!

What It’s Like To Be A Design Student

In secondary school, I was in the enhanced art program, meaning I took art as an GCE “O” Level subject. I had to create a large piece of work with my chosen medium, pencil drawing. It was a gruelling process of staying in school till late to refine and complete that intricate piece.

In tertiary education, I went into my course (communication design) thinking I would learn the fundamentals of being a designer, which I did. What I did not expect was the long hours that was needed for research, development, and of course designing. There were many sleepless nights and energy put into my work as I always strive to do the best I can. Understanding the brief from the start of the project was crucial to put myself on the right path for the rest of the process.

    3 Crucial Items For Success

I would say creativity, determination, and passion! Creativity is important to produce original and unique projects, communicating messages in the most eccentric and distinctive way possible.

Determination, as it is not easy to work on a certain project for a prolonged period of time as one may get tired, sick of the project and the constant feeling of wanting to give up if progress seems impossible. However, a graphic designer has to keep pushing and doing their best to deliver the end-product. Afterall, the satisfaction at the end is always worth it.

Lastly, without passion, there is no way one can create meaningful work. It has to come from the heart, and one must love what they are doing to achieve the best.

    Misconceptions About Designers

Many say the design industry is dead, you cannot earn money from being a graphic designer etc, which I feel is totally wrong. The real-world application of design can be seen in practically everything from street signs, to brand logos and more. It has massive influence on our everyday lives and one cannot deny the effect graphic design has on a consumer.

Many also do not see the amount of time, effort and passion we put into our work that should be recognized more. And I would say, graphic design should be valued much more, considering the importance and impact it has on everyone, anywhere.

    Tips For Aspiring Design Students

Go for it! Work hard and it will pay off. Of course, do your own research and be sure this is what you want to do as it is not an easy process.

Practice, look for inspiration and ask for feedback from lecturers or friends to improve.

Do not procrastinate, hydrate yourself and try to get as much rest as possible. You need your brain juices besides a good eye. All the best!

Clara Chen – I love all things that are aesthetically pleasing, of course I would love to be the creator too! I’m Clara, young aspiring graphic designer, currently pursuing my design career. Designing allows me to express myself and help communicate messages through wonderful visuals. Outside of design, I enjoy all things fashion and beauty too, where I am able to express that through my social media.

  • Australian Model, Graphic Designer & Photographer Carol Larsen

Australian Model, Graphic Designer & Photographer Carol Larsen

Hi Carol it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hello! Well I’m a model, graphic designer and photographer! It’s great because all these things relate to each other and I love working on my own projects and getting creative. I was born and I live in Australia, but my mother is Filipino and my Father is Danish.

How did you get started into modeling?

I started doing random jobs for friends as I was told by a lot of people I should get into modelling, I did a few shoots and realised how much I loved it! So I began building my portfolio and networking with photographers and creatives around where I lived in Brisbane, a few months later I joined the agency SASS Management, so I’ve been modelling for about 5 years now.

What is the most challenging assignment or event you have done so far?

Probably the most challenging event I have done was a runway show for a Wella Hair competition in Melbourne, it was my first time doing runway and walking on stage, naturally I was a bit nervous, also having to wear a $30,000 dress with a 2 foot trail didn’t help (laughs) more pressure to not trip, fall AND ruin the dress. But it all went smoothly and we got second place in the competition!

What is the best compliment you have received?

That’s a tough one, other from my partner, who compliments me and supports me everyday and he always never fails to make me speechless, it’s just great to have people in the industry recognising what you do, saying how you have a unique look and great bone structure, how talented you are, and you always know what you’re doing, that’s when I know I’m doing my job well.

Funniest or most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

I remember when I was around 12 years old, I decided that taking my half Rottweiler half German Shepherd dog for walk with roller blades on was a great idea! She ended up getting so excited as usual on her walks, I fell and she dragged me half way up the road, with my dad trying to catch up to help.

    Photo: Leroy Gordon Photography

If you could choose to learn anything in this world, what will it be?

That’s a tough one, keeping it in the industry I would have to say special effects makeup, I love fantasy and creating my own concepts on things, I’m a bit of a geek. I already do photography and retouching, so what’s left? Makeup!

    Photo: Pixels of Shae

    Photo: Pixels of Shae

What is the lamest pickup line or attempt a guy has tried to know you?

Something that has happened a lot actually, is guys asking me what my background is, which sounds normal, then they say they’re surprised I don’t sound more Asian, it gets worse, they then finish it off by saying they love Asians. I never know what to say back to that other than okay then! I’m going in this direction now (laughs).

    Photo: Pixels of Shae

    Photo: Pixels of Shae

How will you describe an ideal date?

An ideal date to me honestly all depends on the person, if you enjoy being around that person it doesn’t matter what you do, I would be very happy with take out, video games, good music and conversation.

    Photo: Pixels of Shae

    Photo: Pixels of Shae

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Carol. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Henry Cavill (laughs) but in all seriousness I would have to style, having your own unique style that represents yourself as a person and an individual.
