Singapore DJ Erica Kaylova

I’m a DJ born and bred in Singapore. Currently Dj-ing at Altimate, Ce La Vi, Empire. Was trained in Amsterdam, at the Pioneer DJ school and was an ex resident DJ at clubs in Shanghai and Macau before moving back to Singapore. Am also a whisky lover!

What is your proudest achievement so far?

I’ll have a hard time answering if I have to pick one. I am proud of so many things! One of it is to launch Open Decks Night at Empire Sky Lounge, supporting and nuturing young aspiring DJs.

And more recently, headlining at Siloso Beach Party (four consecutive years in a row – can’t be more happy and grateful for that).

How is a typical day like for yourself?

I am currently committed to Empire where I manage their events and music programme and the rest of my free time, I am devoted to my music and shows. A typical day would be waking up (searching for my first cup of coffee), then heading to office, work, meetings, work, meetings, and checking out music. It’s quite repetitive when it comes to work but always exciting for me.

There’s something new to discover everyday.

Which is the best compliment you have received?

The acknowledgement – ‘Your passion will take you far’

Where do you get your DJ inspiration from?

Everywhere; online music platforms, concerts, music videos, my DJ friends. Everything contributes.

Have you been in an embarrassing moment that is funny now when you look back?

Yes. It was at my first DJ show in Amsterdam. Something I’d never forget. I begged a DJ friend to stand right next to me and not leave till I finished just in case I screwed things up.

Every time he started drifting away from the booth, I started panicking. It was really nerve wrecking and I was definitely looking quite stupid. XD

If you could choose to DJ at any event or location in the world, where will it be?

Coachella and EDC (keeping my hopes up! X).

What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

Trying to strike a conversation with the things they think they know about me, but with all the wrong information.

Oh, and promising me a future when I don’t even know them (offering financial support, family and kids, world tours… etc. – all sort of strange things)

International Female DJ Vellatrix

As a DJ, I am able to share my emotions with the crowd through mixing music. Seeing the audience having fun and dancing to my music makes me unbelievably happy.

Do you have a beauty regime to looking so fabulous?

Yes! I’m a HUGE beauty junkie and I have loads of beauty products. These are the current products I’m using listed in order for my night-time routine. I start by removing my make up with Biotherm’s micellar water, then proceed to wash my face with SKII”s face wash, followed by an SKII Toner, La Mer’s The Lotion, and a hydrating serum from Dior (HydraLife Aqua Serum), La Mer Eye Concentrate, La Mer moisturising soft cream, and lastly a facial oil from L’Occitane (Youth Divine Oil). I also use SKII’s facial mask twice a week, and go for hydra-facials/ laser facials once a month!

Are there any guilty pleasures you for food that you can’t live without?

Yes! My world would not be complete without CHOCOLATE. I love eating chocolate and I eat it almost everyday!

Have you ever felt nervous before a performance?

I always get jittery before my gigs even up till date! I’m guessing I may have an anxiety problem.

Where is your dream holiday destination?

Maldives

If you could have a super power, what will it be?

I wish I could teleport to any place in the world 🙂

How often do you get guys coming up to you to get to know you?

Once in awhile! I also receive a lot of DM’s on my Instagram from random guys… *awkward*

To me, being sexy is all about class. Class has nothing to do with the price tag on your outfit. Class is about the dignity you carry yourself with and the level of respect you show to those around you. Intelligence is sexy too! Being able to speak eloquently and hold deep, intellectual conversations will always trump shallow beauty in the long run 😉

Hi Eliza! It is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from.

Thank you SimplySxy for reaching out to me. I’m a DJ and producer from Russia. I’ve been DJing about 7 years and I currently live in Los Angeles, CA.

How did the inspiration to be a DJ start?

I was into music from my childhood. I have been playing piano since the age of 5 and finished music school when I was 13 years old. During college, I was working at the University’s radio station and I saw an advertisement about DJ courses. I thought it was about radio DJing so decided to check it out. It turned out to be club DJing, but at that time I knew nothing about it and couldn’t tell one genre from another, so I decided to stay and learn as much as I could. And I liked it and started to work as a DJ shortly after finishing the courses.

I got into scratching and turntablism much later. I never really knew what it was until I saw a DJ scratching at the Delphic Games competition. I believe it was in 2012. That’s when I started to learn how to scratch and DJing became for me more than just a hobby.

What is your most memorable DJ experience?

Lots of my gigs are memorable for me cause all of them are about the connection with the crowd, taking them into the journey. It’s all about the exchange of energy. That’s a wonderful feeling when people come to you during or after your set to tell you how they enjoy the music you play. That is one of the reasons I’m doing it, I like to make people happy with my art and to help them have a good time.

Which is the best compliment you have received?

It’s always pleasant to hear compliments from other people. I can’t choose the best compliment I have ever received but I definitely like when people compliment not just my look but my skills and my work.

Is there a misconception about DJs that you commonly hear?

I think there is still a misconception about female DJs. Lots of people still don’t take girl DJs seriously and don’t expect them to have skills. But I think it’s getting better, with more and more talented females taking over the DJ world right now.

If you could be a cartoon character, who will you be?

I’m obsessed with Olaf from “Frozen” so I think that I would be one of the girls from the movie. And I think Elsa’s character matches mine much better than Anna’s and she is blonde too, so I’d be her!

How do you spend your free time?

I like to go to the beach or hike, explore whatever city I’m in, and spend time with my family. Although I spend most of my free time working on music.

What is the lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

For me every attempt a guy makes when I’m at the gym is lame. Cause when I’m working out the last thing I want to do is to talk with strangers. I’m going to the gym to work on my goals, I’m very focused and don’t like any distractions.

Being sexy for me means to have self-confidence, to love yourself and your body and to be comfortable with who you are. It’s not just about how you look but also how you feel and behave.

DJ Cindy From Indonesia

How did the inspiration to be a DJ start?

The most influential inspiration came from my father. He used to work in the music industry for 20 years. Thus, I was exposed to music a lot. Watching singers, composers and producers work made me realize that I wanted to pursue this industry. In early 2015 I found my passion as a DJ, followed by the growth of electronic dance music, I decided learn more and finally here I am!

What is your proudest achievement so far?

One of my proudest achievement will definitely be being recognize internationally. Last month I played in Altimate Singapore. Secondly, being contacted by you guys for an interview is certainly up there!

Which is the best compliment you have received?

Best compliment I ever received so far comes from my Manager, BILLY, who is also a DJ and my mentor, who told me that my performance so far is making him very proud and I am ready for something bigger.

Is there a misconception about DJs that you commonly hear?

OF COURSE! Especially us female DJs. And being in an old fashion country like Indonesia doesn’t help. Most people think we female DJs only sell our looks and not our skills. However as time goes on, I am used to the criticism and just trying my best to prove other people wrong.

If you could be a cartoon character, who will you be?

If I can be a cartoon character, I will choose to be Tinkerbell 😉

How do you spend your free time?

I spend my free time with A DATE WITH NETFLIX AND PIZZA!

What is the lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

Lamest guy’s attempt? To be honest I can’t even remember when was the last time a guy tried to flirt with me LOL. But there was this one time, a guy asked me the title of the song that was playing. It was Closer from The Chainsmokers. Everybody knows that song, right? I was just smiling and tell him that he can use Shazam ;p

Party With DJ Kiddo From Malaysia

Hi DJ Kiddo it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Thank you SimplySxy for reaching out to me. I’m DJ Kiddo, and I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. I’ve Started DJ-ing in the early 2015. I recently moved to the big city of Kuala Lumpur in the early 2016 to expand my DJ career and it turn out to be the greatest decision I’ve ever made.

What do you find most challenging about being a DJ?

For me the most challenging part is when you go open format on the decks and you want to keep the energy level there to keep them going and dancing all night long 🙂

Which is your most fun DJ experience so far?

The most fun experience I had was the time when I was spinning on Helipad Lounge KL during New Year’s Eve 2016 which was on an actual Heli pad. We had crowds from around the world and locals to celebrate the final countdown together which everyone was enjoying and dancing throughout the night! During the final countdown to welcome the New Year, fireworks was everywhere and you get to see an amazing view on such high ground.

Do you have other hobbies that you do in your free time?

I basically spend my free time watching tutorial videos or watching my favorite TV series or downloading and arranging new songs.

How will you describe a typical day for yourself?

The most interesting part of being a DJ is that there is no ‘typical’ day for me. One day I would be very busy and running around to places to attend work as I have to juggle between a day job by day and DJ-ing by night.

Which is the sexiest item in your wardrobe?

Well I’m not gonna say which because it’s a bit embarrassing. And I haven’t worn it since 2014 Halloween. I even feel it’s too sexy for me.. haha

If you could collaborate or work with anyone, who will it be?

I would really love to collaborate with MAKJ or Kaytranada.

What is the lamest pickup line or attempt a guy has tried to know you?

I get lots of lame pickup lines when guys try to get my number, but one of the lamest pickup line was this “Hey! You got the exact same remote gate control as mine!” and he turned out to be my boyfriend till now who I adored dearly and I still remind him how lame he was and how silly of me to fall for such a pick up line!

DJ Joyyly From Thailand

Hi DJ Joyyly, it’s a great pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy. Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

I’m a female Dj from Bangkok Thailand. Now I’m currently working at LEVELS CLUB. I used to do the opening set for DIPLO and Jewelz & Spark. I did warm up the after party sets for Kryder and Romeo Blanco. I also played at Mystic Valley Festival back in February 2017.

How did your interest in deejaying begin?

It started from being interested in listening to music and partying. It happened when I went to Narz (https://www.facebook.com/narzbangkok/). It was DJ PAN (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1652056612) who inspired me the most because every time I went there I felt so happy dancing to his music and so did everyone. And then I thought to myself, “How would it feel like to be like him making people happy and dance to my music?” It occurred to me how I wanted to be the man behind the wheels. So I did some homework looking for the place where I could study DJ. And I found that DJ PlusTh (https://www.facebook.com/djplusth/) was the most suitable for me. So I enrolled and started the course, which was in 2014.

What other hobbies do you have?

A few years ago, DJ was my hobby but now it has become my job. So now studying about digital marketing has become one of my favorite hobbies.

How is your fashion style like?

I have no specific style. It’s more likely JOYYLY style; very simple, smart and a little bit sexy.

If you could collaborate with anyone past or present, who will it be?

My inspiration, DJ PAN.

Which is your favorite drink?

Bloody Mary.

What is the sexiest item in your wardrobe?

My favorite underwear set.

Which is the lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

It was 11 years ago. He was my friend who picked me up everyday after school just to go and handout with other friends. One day we all went out of town. When we were alone he approached me by hugging me. He made me feel indifferently from being a normal friend so I asked him why he did it to me and he said it was because he liked me more than just a friend. I thought that was very lamest but I was so moved. And that friend has become my boyfriend since then. Hahaha

DJ Troyi: I’m a DJ working worldwide. I started DJing during my University years in Australia till now, and it has been like 4-5 years.

DJ Lokyii: I’m a model DJ for about two years.

What do you enjoy most about being a DJ?

DJ Troyi: I like the way of how you could create something new while mixing, and it can never be the same.

DJ Lokyii: I like to share music which I like the most.

Can you tell us more about TNL Live and what audiences can expect from the two of you?

DJ Troyi: I would say audiemces would be surprised, every single performance is going to be better and the only thing which would not change is the atmosphere we create.

DJ Lokyii: Audiences will be more concern about the atmosphere because we could lead their mood.

Do you believe in any superstition?

DJ Troyi: No

DJ Lokyii: Not yet

What is your secret to looking so beautiful?

DJ Troyi: Rest more and take good care of the skin.

DJ Lokyii: Makeup is the first thing, and skin care also.

If you could be a superhero, what will be your super power?

DJ Troyi: I hope I can fly, so I never have to pay for the air tickets.

DJ Lokyii: I want to be like Quicksilver which owns speed.

Describe an ideal date to you?

DJ Troyi: I think if that happens in Disneyland it will be perfect.

DJ Lokyii: I think the most important thing is romance, every girl likes romantic dates.

What is the funniest way a guy has tried to get to know you?

DJ Troyi: There was a guy who said the exact same line from a movie which is ‘I want you to remember me forever‘

Who is DJ Sakura?

I am from Singapore – a little red dot on the map, part of South-East Asia. I am a Deejay and have been spinning at some of Singapore’s hippest clubs.

How did your interest in Deejaying came about?

I have always been interested in music. I used to listen to a lot of club mixes and have always been curious about how pieces of music have been ‘stitched’ in together and sound so good, how someone can learn to use a console that seems so complicated! Then, I came across an opportunity to learn and deejay on the job while they sent me for courses. Without much consideration, I jumped right into it! Heh!

Which are your favourite genre of music?

Dubsteps, hip hop, trap music.

What’s the best compliment you have received?

Career wise, I have received compliments that my music and song selection is unique and these party people have been having a blast throughout the night because of me! So far, this has been the compliment that still tickles my heart.

How will you describe your fashion style?

My usual outfit for a day out with friends would be a put-together of a cropped-top tee, high-waist pants/skirt and probably pull-over a comfy jacket that suits the outfit. Oh, and I’m almost always in high platform shoes (cause’ since I’m really short!). I take OOTDs like an everyday affair. Do you follow any particular fashion trends?

Japanese-influenced street wear fashion.

What colours suit you best?

Although my favourite colour is black, white and baby pink but white compliments me best.

Where can we catch you partying usually?

CJ’s Bar@Quaich (Resort World Sentosa), Bang Bang Club and Delta Sports Hall. (Whuuttt?! Sports Hall? Why???) Yes. Delta Sports Hall. I will be the main Deejay playing sets for the upcoming Pro-Am Singapore Basketball League Games that will be happening from 6^th December 2015 to 10^th April 2016. If you had the chance to learn anything in this world, what would it be?

I wish to learn all of the languages in the world! Well because, communication is SO important. I would like to communicate with all of my fans in the best and most sincere way I can. Plus, don’t you think being able to speak any language like it’s your native language can be really cool? Hehe.

One fun fact about yourself which most people do not know?

When I drink alcohol I don’t get high. Instead, I start getting really sleepy. So when I spin, I try not to drink at all so I do not spoil my evening and find myself sleeping in the changing room at the clubs!

What’s sexy to you?

Anyone who is confident and healthy is sexy to me!

I have recently taken up the job to spin at the Pro-Am Singapore Basketball League Games, as well as at their festival. I will also be spinning at Bang Bang Club. Singapore YouTuber & Deejay Jazzy Tan mixes it up!

Looking ever gorgeous, we catch up with Youtuber and Deejay Jazzy Tan as she recommends places to party on weekends in Singapore and how she began her YouTube journey.

Hi Jazzy, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. Can you share a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Hey you! I am a dreamer who was born on the 12th of March in a tiny island, Singapore. Since young, I’ve always wanted to be in front of the camera, sing or to do something related to the entertainment world to share my talents and content to others! However, I abhor the idea of being tied down to an agency, fixed office hours or listening to orders, so I took it to myself to start my own YouTube channel to upload my content that I dictate and I am lovin’ it so far, only got serious about 3 months back after graduation from NUS.

On the other hand, I am also a multi-faceted human being, so I also host or emcee every weekend for companies like Samsung and deejay at night in clubs/bars.

Currently, I’m entering into the real estate market as an agent too because I dream to own many properties worldwide.

You share quite a few beauty tips on your YouTube channel. How did the inspiration to create videos come about?

I actually started the channel way back in 2010 but I didn’t put any heart into it. I was uploading infrequently and posting whatever… So I thought I needed to be very targeted to grow my channel. I love watching Youtubers like Trisha Paytas, Patrickstarrr and Leendaproductions. They inspire me so much because they are such strong individuals who overcome so much in their lives and how they carry themselves with confidence really impacted me so much to also do that in my channel. Through my videos, other than just talking about beauty, my main message I wanted to exude to my viewers is that ‘you can be anyone, you can do anything and you can live the life you want’! I want people to know that anything is possible. The grind is real but the results will be rewarding!

How long does it take for you to complete one video and does it involve many takes and editing?

It takes a long ass time to get a video edited especially if its not a vlog! Every video takes 5-6hrs for me to edit because I want it to look the perfect way I desire.

For takes…..maybe around 3 takes now that I am getting better at this film myself type process.

Is there a specific diet you are on to having that fabulous body?

NO! In fact I am such a glutton I actually eat a lot more than a lot of my friends. Hehe.

Do you have any guilty pleasures when it comes to food?

YASSSSSS gimme some of that Ben & Jerry Chocolate Therapy!

You have a lovely tattoo on your right shoulder of two roses. Can you share with us the story behind it?

I got it colored recently (still peeling) and let me tell you I was such a whiny bitch when my friend was inking me…….. Like I complained so much about the pain. It’s really an unbearably painful area to get tattooed.

And…..sorry I wish I could make up some juicy story about the roses but no they are just a pair of generic roses on my shoulders for aesthetics haha. I got a hate comment saying how ‘original’ my rose tattoo was, oh wells stupid haters 🙂

Where are some places to recommend for a good party on weekends?

Ouhhh…I love Attica a lot it used to be my second home, like I party till the club goes down! Kyo is another one of my faves on a Thursday ladies night for old school hiphop R&B, the deejay Andrew Chow inspired me to go into deejay business because he made me realize being a deejay is to emit the emotions you want your crowd to feel through the tracks you drop.

How will you describe a perfect date?

Hmmm.. a lot of flirting, skin contact, teasing…..nice sexy outfit in a nice cooling outdoor area facing a nice scenery. Guy in sleek back hair.

A lot of time I think sexy shows through when a girl knows how to look into the camera or someone’s eyes. Not really smiley, but sultry….confidence knowing you are the hottest thing in the room, anywhere, any time. Thanks SimplySxy for having me.
