    Chinese Cosplayer NiShi Sakurai

    Hello, this is NiShi. I am a cosplay lover from China, but now living in the California Bay Area. It is a pleasure to be featured and get this chance to share something about me. I create cosplay works or photos for fun, and it is my biggest hobby. I hope you will love what I do.

    When and how did you get started into cosplaying?

    Nice question hahah. I learned about cosplay in 2010. I was following a TV talk show and they featured some cosplayers from a University club in one of their episodes. I was addicted to anime back then, so I decided I wanted to cosplay too. Then I told some of my besties and we formed a little cosplay group. But that was just little kids having fun, we had like only two cosplays in a year LOL. Then I took a rest from it for a couple of years. And I picked it back up in 2014.

    What do you love about cosplay?

    Many things! This question took me a lot of time to think…hahah.

    Well, first all I like anime, so I want to be the characters I love. And it feels amazing when I perform as someone else. Then I really enjoy the whole process of delivering the characters’ personality and my own analysis of her/him. Because it is easy but also hard to deliver emotions through the screen; it is easy because we can do makeup, lighting, composition, and photoshop; it is hard because emotion is so vague, and the screen is just way too small for heart-touching.

    We must put work into it, so that we can be the best we can; and when we achieve a higher level of delivery, I feel SOOO GOOOOOODD! Being able to deliver my thoughts through cosplay is one of the biggest reasons why I love it. But also, I made so many friends through cosplay, and my most contacted friends are all cosplayers. I’m not sure if I worded all these right, because it so much more than this… I hope when people get to know my works, they can feel how I enjoy cosplaying.

    Which characters have you enjoyed cosplaying most?

    I would say Mashu Kyrielight from Fate, because she’s my best waifu hahaha. But I don’t have many finished shoots with her, because I want to make sure I do her justice haha. Also, Nero from Fate, Honoka from LoveLive are my favorite too. I like them by their characteristics.

    Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn but haven’t found the time?

    High level photoshop!! Because there are many things that happens in fiction, but hard to accomplish in real life, like breathing fire, strike lighting, etc. If I can do some magical photoshop, my cosplay works would get to a new level. And, how to be a game master, cause I suck LoL.

    On a scale of 1-10, how much of a foodie are you?

    12. Very very very foodie. That’s why I always suffer in losing weight.

    If you could time travel, where will you go?

    Ehhhh… No where! I’m satisfied with what I live in now. There are things I don’t like and wish I could have changed it. But there are more things I love, and you never know if you get to keep those if you mess up the past. And there will not be a perfect solution. So, I enjoy right now.

    Which is a funny or lame attempt a guy has tried to know you?

    It was funny, lame, but a little creepy. We were in a science lab class and assigned to the same group. The guy just straight up went, are you looking for a romance relationship? I was so shocked. It was during class, everyone else is doing experiments, and that was the first sentence he talked in that class period. It was the only time I got picked up.

    It can be defined in many ways. You are sexy, when you are confident of yourself. I guess people think an attractive person or object is sexy. But people can be attracted in many ways, by the appearance, personality, creativity, etc. So sexy can be found everywhere.

    When did you get started into cosplay?

    7th July 2017 was my first time I started to cosplay in public.

    What do you love about cosplaying?

    I love looking at myself looking cute and pretty, and it makes me happy. Also, because I love the Anime characters very much, especially the Loli Characters.

    How do you like to spend your weekends and free time?

    I always do Anisong cover recordings at home, besides this, I sleep and eat a lot.

    Is there any food or drink you don’t ever take?

    Celery!! I HATE THAT!!!

    If you can be a cosplay character for real, who will you be?

    MEGUMIN from Konosuba! Or any Loli Characters that I love. People would be curious as to why I love to dress myself as a young little cute girl, and there is actually a secret to it. I always dressed myself as a little boy since I was 7 years old and I stopped wearing skirts until I was 18 years old. Maybe because of that I don’t have the “Loli memory” so I’m trying to making it happen now, haha!

    What things best describes you?

    It would be the FLYING SQUIRREL!! Because of my Teeth! haha!!

    What is the funniest or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?

    There was a guy asking for a nude photo of mine on my fan page, and I was free that time so I replied and asked him to send a nude photo of himself first, and he gave tons of excuses. Ended up saying he was joking and he just wanted to make friends with me. LOL!!

    People always misunderstand SEXY and NUDE, it is very close but very different. For me, being sexy is an art, I love seeing girls showing the body shape of themselves, it doesn’t have to mean wearing less or to be nude, and it doesn’t have to be skinny or meaty, the body lines is the point. Being sexy is confidence, courage and also appreciation of themselves.

    Thank you SimplySxy for having me for this interview. I am a cosplayer from China, currently living in Singapore. You can call me Yukiko or 小鱼 (xiao yu)

    My cosname was supposed to be Kiko or 小鱼 (xiaoyu) in Chinese. But more and more people started calling me Yukiko instead, and I sticked with that name.

    When did you start to cosplay?

    I started cosplaying since 26 Nov 2016 (AFASG 2016).

    Which characters have you enjoyed cosplaying before?

    My favourite character to cosplay is Rem from Rezero. I have cosplayed many versions of her and I am planning to do more.

    Do you have any other hobbies or interests?

    Except cosplay and anime, I also love singing and playing the piano. I also love to play games like League of Legends and 王者荣耀 (King of glory)

    What is your beauty regime like to look so pretty?

    I think my beauty regime is focusing on skincare. Many people neglect the importance of skincare and focus on solely makeup. But I think skincare is important as well, as a good canvas to work on makes a huge difference.

    Keeping a clear skin is important, so stock up on your face wash and a good makeup remover is super important. Also, even though I am not a day over 20, I have been using anti-aging/moisturising products and eye creams. And of course as a teenager, I do stock up on acne products on those days I am getting breakouts.

    If you could be a cartoon character for real, who will you be?

    I would hope to become any of the characters from Puella Magi Madoka Magica who sacrificed themselves for people they love to be honest. I think that is very noble and the whole story inspired me a lot back then.

    Have you been in an embarrassing situation that is funny now when you look back?

    When I just started cosplaying for about a month. I participated in a small cosplay competition cosplaying as Kuriyama Mirai. I prepared myself well with a short skit. There is a part where I had to swing my prop knife (made of wood by the way).

    As I was quite shy back then, I was very nervous on stage and my hands was super sweaty. So during the performance, my knife swung out of my hands and hit the LED screen behind me, almost flying over the screen hitting the escalator behind it. I ran to fetch my knife and continued my performance blushing through out.

    And of course… I didn’t win. My cosplay wasn’t that great and I flung my performance.

    But it was a good experience and I got to see many other awesome cosplayers and performances!

    What is a funny or lame attempt a guy has tried to know you?

    Hahaha! Perhaps a recent one would be during Gamestart 2018, when I cosplayed as Rem Nurse, an event security checked my Exhibitor pass and suddenly told me he needed medical attention saying that his heart was in pain. I actually panicked for a moment thinking he really needed help, but then realized it was a pick up line….

    I think sexy comes from within. It is a feeling, you don’t really have to dress revealing to be sexy. It is a vibe, something like a grownup vibe? (which I don’t have, so I am sad…)

    Hi everyone, I am Sally from Kuantan Pahang, Malaysia. I am a cosplayer, model and a Patreon content creator!

    Which is your most memorable photoshoot experience so far?

    To be honest every photoshoot is a great memory to me. The experiences I gain through every photoshoot contributes to my character building so I will remember all the photoshoots I have with the helper and photographer.

    When did you get started into cosplay?

    I started cosplaying 3 years ago and I totally fell in love and addicted with it. I remember my first cosplay event was a Animangaki as Rory Mercury from GATE. It was really a culture shock for me but I slowly began to like the culture of the events. Up to date it still holds the record for my most pictures taken with me in an event XD! I love Animangaki.

    How do you like to spend your weekends and free time?

    I will normally arrange for photoshoots or go to events during the weekend but whenever I have any free time, I will play Overwatch! Please come carry me in Overwatch you guys!

    Is there any food or drink you don’t ever take?

    I am not an alcoholic person but am quite picky with foods. I love to explore as long as it is not an exotic food and tastes great!

    If you can be a cosplay character for real, who will you be?

    I will say Rory Mercury from Gate! She is forever young and is a badass with great wisdom.

    Which flavor best describes you?

    Milk flavor because you can change into many different flavors with some added touch but still retain the goodness of the milk~ <3

    What is the funniest or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?

    During my secondary school, when MSN was still the boom, I had this very first friend friend and classmate that I made from MSN. We often chatted together because he was my only online friend at that time, but one day he sends a long confession with sparkles and sweet content to me, it was very awkward and funny since I never receive anything like that in the past.  Lastly it turns out to be his friend pranking or so he says.  After that he blocked me and it stayed awkward ever since. Not much of a juicy content but it was funny, I was 13. (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻

    Which is your most favorite character you have enjoyed cosplaying so far?

    Probably Emilia from anime Re: Zero. I really like this character and only recently I was able to cosplay her.

    Who will you like to cosplay in future?

    In fact, I have a lot of plans for cosplay haha.

    Do you have any other hobbies or interests?

    Yes, I like to take photographs, and shoot videos.

    Have you been in a funny or embarrassing moment before that is funny now when looking back?

    There were a lot of fun moments. For example, recently at the festival when I put on my costume, I already took photographs in it, then I realized that some of the details were not correctly put on. Then when I noticed it, I was so ashamed of it because I know and love this character!

    How much of a party animal are you?

    I am very sociable with my friends, but with those people whom I do not know, I am not very sociable.

    If you could have a superpower, which will it be?

    I would like to manage time well or be able to fly.

    What turns you off on a date?

    I am disappointed by people and their attitude. For example when the other person shows or says that my interests are weird or silly.

    Which is your most memorable photoshoot experience so far?

    I think my most memorable one is a shoot where I first got into Boudoir/Lingerie. It was a bit embarrassing but I managed to pull through and achieve a satisfying result.

    What is your fashion style like?

    I like anything comfortable. I mostly wear one-piece dresses or shorts and a t-shirt. I do wear fancier evening dresses to fine dining and other formal events but it’s not too often.

    How do you like to spend your weekends and free time?

    I work. Since I own a business, I spend my free time researching for more information on the market and what else I could do to improve. Otherwise I sleep, eat, and hang with my friends sometimes.

    Is there any food or drink you don’t ever take?

    I’m not too picky with my food and drink. There’s nothing that I absolutely hate and cannot consume, but by choice I try to keep my alcohol intake very limited nowadays, and hardly drink at a party.

    What is the sexiest item in your wardrobe?

    Hmm… I guess you could say either a micro-bikini or a ball gag? (Even though I only use those items for photo-shoot purpose and not for kink).

    If you can be a cartoon character, who will you be?

    I love the images of strong women, so I would definitely want to be Mulan!

    What is the funniest or awkward attempt a guy has tried to know you?

    I think it was when I was in high school. He was really quiet in class and barely ever talked to anyone. I was this active and energetic person. At the end of my Junior year he wrote me a love letter and asked a classmate to pass it to me, to my complete surprise. That might be the first time I’ve gotten one? I had to turn it down though since I was too into childish stuff to be in a relationship.

    For me, “sexy” comes in many forms. Tasteful lingerie and boudoir clothing definitely do spell “sexy” as personal items/accessories but there are more to that. What I find “sexy” also lies in how a person carries themselves. A man is very “sexy” when he offers to hold my hand when I have to walk down the stairs with heels, or pull my chair out before I sit down. A woman can be “sexy” just by her smiling and being happy, caring for those around her.  I definitely think the inner “sexy” is what I connect more with, while the outer “sexy” appearance is what I enjoy looking at.

    I mainly cosplay idol series characters such as (Love Live and Idolm@ster). I do occasionally cosplay game series characters from League of Legends. I love dancing and performing on stage as well. Do check out some of my performance videos on my page!!!

    Where did your interest in cosplaying first come from?

    I first learnt about cosplay when I was 15. I had friends that introduced me to anime and I fell in love with it. They cosplayed a little and eventually I joined them. My first event as a cosplayer was at Anime Festival Asia.

    I always thought that cosplay was going to be just a phase of my life. It is a wonder to me that I am actually currently still active as a cosplayer.

    That being said, I had never regretted joining this community because I met so many people that became my closest friends and experienced so many opportunities that I would never have without cosplay.

    Which character have you most enjoyed cosplaying and why?

    The character that I enjoyed cosplaying the most would be Sakurauchi Riko from Love Live Sunshine. I love her image color which is “light pink”. This makes all her costumes really appeal to me! Despite being reserved, mature and modest, there are times when she panics due to pressure and make mistakes. Personally, I can really relate to her which makes me love her even more.

    Do you have any other hobbies or interests?

    I love dancing and performing on stage! I have done many dance covers from Love Live, Idolm@ster, Tsukiuta and Vocaloid. Early this year, I even got the chance to perform overseas with my friends!!!

    Have you been in an embarrassing moment before that is funny now when looking back?

    My friends and I were planning to surprise our friend on her birthday. We had a separate chat to discuss about how we were going to surprise her. However, we were simultaneously engaged in another chat with our friend inside. I accidentally replied to the wrong chat about our surprise plans and let the cat out of the bag. It was so embarrassing!!!

    Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or learn but haven’t had the time?

    I have always wanted to travel overseas alone! Due to school and work, I haven’t really found time to do so. It has always been on my bucket list since then!

    If you could time travel, where will you go?

    I would go back to my primary school life. I miss how cooling the weather was and my life being stress-free. I miss those happy, innocent school days when I had so many friends and life was simpler yet full of fun. I wish I could return to those days and never grow up.

    What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

    If I recall correctly, me and friend were hanging out in a Korean dessert café. There was this guy that kept staring and making eye contact with me. I sat there trying to recall whether he was an acquaintance of mine. He stared for a good 30 minutes then came over and initiated a conversation.

    I felt extremely uncomfortable about the entire situation so I gave him a bunch of false information which I made up on the spot. My friend and I were trying so hard to laugh at my horrible lying skills.

    I feel that being “sexy” is simply being the best person you can be. Anyone can be “sexy”. Little things such as investing in yourself, having self-confidence and cherishing your love ones can make you real sexy to everyone.

    HELLO! I am born and raised in Sacramento, CA and I’m just a happy thespian enjoying life with my husband and two Dalmatians, Cosmo and Ruby.

    How did your interest in cosplay start?

    Ahhh well, with growing up involved in theater and film, the desire to perform as a character has always been a part of me down to my core. I think having this passion naturally drove me to dive into cosplay once I learned about it and experienced it with friends a few years ago.

    Which is your most favorite character you have cosplayed before?

    Oh my heck, it’s not exactly a character, but definitely the Pylon Cosplay from StarCraft 2. I wore my pylon cosplay to Blizzcon 2017 and had the absolute best time. There’s something about being an absolutely ridiculous cosplay that fills my heart with a huge amount of joy and satisfaction. Not to mention the blood sweat and tears that went into building err… constructing that Pylon.

    Is there any food or drink you can’t live without? I CANNOT live without?

    HOT WINGS, I challenge anyone to a hot wing challenge any day, I can’t live without that tangy buffalo sauce. I always indulge in some hot wings everywhere I travel on my journey to find the best Hot Wings in America, I’ve been thinking about doing some food vlogs on the different wing places I’ve gotten to visit, but we will see what the future holds, My number one favorite place for wings is actually at Lahaina Pizza Company in Maui, Hawaii. I’ve never had a sauce so perfect.  Other than that, it’s a local place called Granite’s.

    Do you have any other hobbies?

    Just gaming, keeping up on favorite shows and trying to stay active with a busy work schedule. Between my day job and cosplay I try to squeeze in any adventure I can.

    Can you describe a typical day like for yourself?

    Waking up, kissing my dogs and husband goodbye, going to work, coming home to craft or stream on Twitch and play with my dogs, and then pass out watching anime is pretty much my daily activity. Weekends are always crazy but what I live for, pretty much what Loverboy says, “Everybody’s working for the weekend”

    Eventually I’d like to transition to acting full time but it’s definitely a nice slow journey for me, not a race.

    If you could have a super power, what will it be?

    GIVE ME SOME WINGS!!!! Literal wings not more hot wings, although I’ll take some. HAH, really I’d love to fly. I’m not sure if that’s considered a super power but it’s definitely something I’ve always been drawn too.

    What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

    Oh man….well I’ve been a bartender all over the country the last 6 years of my life and I have heard…a lot….of things. It’s hard to pick just one. I guess the one that vividly sticks out was at a night club on the east coast worked at. It was a guy with the most serious face saying the “dragons” pick up line. If you’ve never heard of this pick up line just go google it. It’s pretty dumb.

    Thank you for taking the time to interview me! I think in general it’s hard to define sexy, but to me it’s just a feeling of attractive confidence. It’s a strong feeling that comes from within and its very self-empowering, like when you look in the mirror and you just FEEL positive vibes about yourself whether your naked or fully covered from head to toe. The term “sexy” is something that I think every individual experiences differently, but it’s definitely there in one way or another.

    Hi! I’m from Washington DC, working in an office from 9-5 like most people around here. I had to add some meaning and spice to my life so I started volunteering at children’s hospitals dressed as supergirl. This led to my now full time hobby of cosplaying, gaming, fitness, and nerding out.

    Cosplaying has also led to other opportunities like social media influencing. I spend my free time at conventions, metal shows, the gym, comic book stores, and children’s hospitals.

    What is your fashion style like?

    I realized the other day that I’m definitely “sporty spice”. I have few “normal” clothes outside of cosplay and trendy gym brand clothes.  If I’m not at my office job or not in cosplay, I’m definitely going to be in Lululemon leggings and some kind of sporty crop top with converse.

    IF I just so happen to go out, I will most definitely have on all black; black jeans, black crop top, black leather jacket, heels. I don’t wear many colors. So… rocker chic/sporty but still girly..?

    Which accessories are a must in your wardrobe?

    Do you have any favorite food you can’t live without?

    Avocados, rice, cheese, hummus. I’ve been a vegetarian most of my life, so veggies!

    How is a typical day like for you?

    Wake up, walk my dog, feed my dog, drink coffee, do my hair/makeup, go to work, gym for two hours, go home, walk my dog, feed my dog, shower, dinner, call my mom, bed.

    What is your beauty regime to looking so fabulous?

    People make fun of me because it takes me longer to get ready at night than it does to get ready for the day. I use a lot of serums and moisturizers, a lot of hair masks and expensive shampoos/ conditioners. As far as getting ready in the morning, I just curl my hair with a big curling iron and wear minimal makeup. I’m not a big makeup person.

    If you could have a super power, what will it be?

    This is a hard question.. I spend most of my life in traffic.. so maybe teleportation? Or flying? Also mind reading, superhuman strength, and invisibility. That was more than one.. most superheroes have more than one power right? I know.. the super power to have infinite super powers. Then I would add all of those mentioned above 🙂

    What do you not get about guys?

    I get EVERYTHING about guys. I’m pretty sure I was a man in a previous life. They are so simple :p. Honestly though, I know when a guy is going to check out a girl in front of me.. before they check her out, then I watch the check out happen. It’s pretty funny.

    It’s the females that I don’t UNDERSTAND AT ALL. Guys typically tell you what they’re thinking and if something you are doing is bothering them. Females like to hold it in, talk crap about you with their friends, and then explode one day. I usually have everything in common with men and nothing in common with females. I can sense how men are feeling and read them but I can NEVER read females.

    I think sexy is being confident and just being yourself, owning who you are.

    I enjoy cosplay because I like creating different characters and being someone new. I like to become those characters as it makes me happy along with seeing it brighten other peoples days. It is a beautiful experience.

    Which is your most memorable cosplay experience so far?

    My most memorable cosplay experience was when I cosplayed D. Va at Acen at 2016. Everyone was shocked and amazed because the character wasn’t out yet. Everyone wanted a photo and was so impressed  by it and happy. Everywhere I would stop at I would create a sea of crowds taking photos and being shocked, I also got a free keychain of D. Va because I was the only D. Va there. Such an unforgettable experience.

    Can you describe a typical day like for yourself?

    A typical day for me is laying around watching YouTube videos or working and posting photos of past shoots on my social media pages.

    Most of this consists of YouTube. I spend way too many hours watching vlogs and gamer channels.

    Do you have any other hobbies?

    Another hobby of mine is gaming and working on more of my voice acting and acting skills. I went to school for acting so it means a lot to me to perfect my craft. I also love to dance and do choreography and showcase them occasionally, it’s a fun workout!

    What is the sexiest item in your wardrobe?

    It would either be my silver microbikini outfit I wore in a shoot with a crown or my black lingerie outfit I wore for a valentines shoot. Another shoot was a red bikini with shiny thigh highs and those are my top sexiest outfits.

    I’m proud of them!!

    If you could have a super power, what will it be?

    If I could have any super power, it would be Dr. Manhattans from Watchmen. He can do just about anything and it’s AMAZING! Him or Phoenix Powers are pretty incredible.

    What is the funniest or lamest attempt a guy has tried to know you?

    This past year in Vegas while I was waiting for my Uber, this guy just walks passed me and started rapping terribly. He didn’t rhyme or anything, it was just god awful and wouldn’t leave unless I gave him a number. I gave him one off the top of my head and then dipped. What a terrible way to pick someone up.

    Adefinition of sexy would be self confidence and loving yourself. I think that creates an ideal of what is sexy.

    With confidence and loving yourself you create your image of what is sexy and beautiful.
