    Multi-Talented Artiste Alyssa Lie

SimlpySxy has the honour of featuring talented host, voiceover artist and digital content creator Alyssa Lie. Read on below to find out more about her experiences, sources of inspiration and enjoy the interview!

As a multi-talented artiste such as yourself, what is a typical day like and how do you juggle everything that you do?

I’m a morning person, so I start my day at 530am! I’ll go for a run, meditate, shower and get ready for my work day, which nowadays centres mainly around content creation for TikTok and IG. I’ll reply my emails and messages around 5pm, head out for dinner with friends around 630pm and wind down by 9pm with another shower, a good book, and I’ll be ready to sleep by 10pm so that I’m refreshed and well-rested the next morning!

Which is a memorable and unforgettable acting experience you have had before?

I recently did a commercial shoot for PanzerGlass. It was really fun because the videographer and I were given free rein to travel Singapore in order to get the shots that were needed. We explored the entire Bayfront area on foot. It was such an adventure!

If you could change one misconception about content creators, what will it be?

That female content creators are shallow or just using their looks to gain a following. It may be true for some, but definitely not all. Personally, I create content that reflects my values of authenticity, self-love and positivity. I share personal anecdotes as well because I want my audience to know that I’ve gone through difficult times, but I’m still smiling because happiness is a choice, and I hope to inspire them to choose to live joyfully!

How do you decide what content to create and share with your fans?

Sometimes I gather inspiration from other content creators, which I’ll put my own spin on! I also share personal anecdotes that I feel are relatable and can inspire my audience to live a happier and more fruitful life. I make sure my content spreads joy and positivity!

Have you been in an embarrassing situation that is funny now when looking back?

I’ve been in many embarrassing situations during these pandemic times because I can barely recognise anyone when they’re wearing masks. Recently, a friend came to watch my singing performance, and I called him by the wrong name! It was not the first time…

Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn but yet to find the time for it?

I’ve always wanted to speak fluent Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia. Being Peranakan, I feel that it would help me reconnect with my cultural roots. It’s still on my bucket list!

What do you not get about the opposite sex?

I don’t understand why guys can’t just openly express their fears, doubts and insecurities in a romantic relationship. I find that some guys think keeping their partner in the dark about certain things is better to maintain the status quo and not risk losing their partner. However, I beg to differ. I believe that in any relationship, honesty is truly the best policy.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Alyssa. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I define “sexy” as being able to BE YOURSELF in your own skin, embrace your body, your personality, your heart, and be confident in who you are and what you offer to the world!

  • Surfer Girl Minnie Nato

    Surfer Girl Minnie Nato

Pardon my language, but I call my fashion style “baby prostitute”. My friends and family constantly tell me how I wear baby clothes. Crop tops and shorts are my go to. And I’m not into expensive branded clothing. Most of my clothes are from the dearly beloved SHEIN.

Do you have any fashion accessories that you cannot live without?

    Yes, a chain necklace.

Which 3 things do you enjoy doing most in the city you live in?

I live in La Union. Which is a surf town. So I’m constantly surfing and if there are no waves, I skate.

On a scale of 1-10, how much of an adventurer are you?

    100.

If you could time travel, what will you like to witness?

THE FUTURE!! Like thousands of years from now. I bet the world will be so much cooler.

Would you rather have the power to speak to animals or control objects?

Control objects. If I can understand animals, they might not be so cute anymore 😳.

What do you not get about guys?

    A lot.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questionsMinnie. One question before we end, how do you define”sexy”?

Being kind!!! Man, for me personally nothing is hotter than someone being kind on a regular basis 😍.

  • Actor & Host Erika Maguicay

    Actor & Host Erika Maguicay

I’m Filipino mixed with Chinese and Spanish, but if anyone asks, I just say I’m Filipino haha. I was born in Leyte and lived in Iligan City until my parents brought my brother and I to Singapore when I was six years old, and we became citizens when I was 12.

Unfortunately, I can’t speak Tagalog but I’m glad I can at least speak basic Bisaya which is another dialect in the Philippines. I also speak conversational Mandarin. I love coffee, dogs, working out, and for hobbies I make content for YouTube, and TikTok.

What inspired you to be an actor and why do you love acting?

I think I was about 13 when my interest first grew, but I can’t pinpoint exactly what it was that made me interested in being an actor. Honestly, I probably just like the attention. HAHAHA okay, but seriously other than that, I really do enjoy pretending to be somebody else – telling the character’s story, relating to them, living their life, and sometimes it feels like a form of therapy, especially if I’m playing a sad person. Because, it’s like I get to express myself through the character, so it feels like I’m being open about my own pain without being directly vulnerable, you know what I mean?

Which is a memorable acting experience you have had before?

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world because I have so many memorable experiences that I’m grateful for, but I think, number one on my list is probably when I played my first ever lead role in a TV series. It’s called ‘Kin: By The Fans’, the anthological spin-off of the popular local series ‘Kin’.

My episode was ‘The Long Game’ and I got to play a rich socialite who went undercover. Pretty cool huh? Haha. It was a crazy back to back three-day shoot of about 12-13 hours a day, and it was tiring to say the least, but even then I thought, “wow, this is really what I want to do for the rest of my life”.

Is emceeing a lot different from acting?

I’ve thought about this a lot, and I think yes and no.

Yes because it depends on the type of event you’re hosting for. To be honest, there’s been so many times I’ve had to host/emcee and during the event I’m either anxious, nervous, sad, or all of the above, so I’ve had to act like someone who’s confident, outgoing, and happy to be there because it’s my job to entertain people and make them happy. When I put it like that, then everyone must be an actor huh?

No because essentially, from my experience, they usually want to hire you as the host for your personality. There’s always going to be pockets of “you” they want to bring to the event, no matter how serious or formal. Unlike in acting where sometimes you have to be completely immersed in the character, which could be the polar opposite of who you are.

If you could collaborate with anyone past or present, who will it be?

I’d love to collab with Patch and Punnet to film skits. I’ve always had an interest in writing my own skits but it was only last year when Covid was at its worst, when I finally decided to write them. So I spoke to my friend, and co-founder of Patch, Krish Natarajan, and he seemed really keen as well, so I’m hoping we’ll turn my ideas into reality soon.

I’ve actually worked with them before for an interactive play, and I liked working with them ‘cause we were on the same wavelength. They started out as a local youth theatre collective, and made a YouTube channel not too long ago featuring their own crazy sketches, so that’s why I think we’d be a good match.

What 3 things do you love to do in the city you live in?

    Eat, party, explore.

On a scale of 1-10, how much of an outdoors person are you?

I guess an 8 because I love chilling at the beach, having picnics, trekking, and I’d love to go for a proper camping trip one day. The other 2/10 is when I’d rather snuggle in my bed haha.

What is a funny or lame attempt a guy has tried to get to know you?

Ugh I hate that you asked this ‘cause now I have to relive it hahaha. A few years ago, I was waiting for my bus when this guy, whom I already noticed was staring at me, came up to me to ask for directions to a golf course nearby. He was clearly holding his phone so there’s no way this guy didn’t have data in this day and age, so I said, “you should check Google Maps, I’m sorry I’m not sure how to get there.”

He mumbled some excuse for not using it, I can’t remember exactly, so I turned away since I thought the conversation was over, but then he proceeded to ask me, “where are you going?” And I was uncomfortable at this point so I made it blatantly obvious “I’m going to meet my boyfriend.” He started to falter saying, “that’s nice, spending time with your boyfriend is important.

At this point an adorable secondary school kid unknowingly came to my rescue and gave the guy directions to the golf course, saying he should cross the road and turn left. The guy crossed the road and turned RIGHT, when he did this the kid and I looked at each other – I gave him a knowing look and his expression changed from confusion to realisation.

So basically this guy was already waiting for his own bus, tried to hit on me when I approached the bus stop, then ran away when it failed. LOL

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions, Erika. One question before we end, how do you define ”sexy”?

Sexy is when you own your strengths and weaknesses, and take pride in being who you truly are.

  • Indie Actor & Writer, Kristina Monarc aka Prym

Indie Actor & Writer, Kristina Monarc aka Prym

I am a starting independent actor in the Philippines! I’m 20 years old by the way. I used to want to try modelling before but I’ve leaned on film and acting recently. My projects are also more increasing this quarantine.

My nickname is also Prym btw! (Pronounced as ‘Prime’.) My first name is Kristina Monarc haha and my last name is Cabral. But people just call me Prym 🙂

How will you describe your fashion style and what inspires it?

My fashion style, come to think of it, is inspired by a lot of movie characters. As an actor, I tend to dress up based on my mood: whether I feel like a Rachel Green, or a high school female soccer player haha with my oversized tees and long socks. Although most of the time, I like to put in a chic culture: cropped tops, off shoulders and tank tops, Nadine Lustre-inspired.

But in the long run, comfort is key – even how much I like v-necks to reveal my sternum tattoo, nothing beats the idea of comfortably walking in your pants knowingly you’re ready or not to show some skin that day. It always comes in moods.

Do you have any quotes or mottos you like to use in life?

I’ve lived with quotes pretty much my entire life haha. One is from Atticus, “I’d rather have a body full of scars and memories than a head filled with regrets and a perfect skin.

I feel like the more you push yourself away from your comfort zone, the more you’ll meet your better self: you have no idea what she’s capable of! Imagine if we did the things we wanted to do. Imagine if we lived a life of passion; what a beautiful world it would be, if people were honest, to each other and themselves, and if we all were self-aware and lived fulfilling lives.

One last thing I’ve read is from an entrepreneur book I forgot whose author was it. He said, “We must strive to be self-entrepreneurs, where we find a valuable spot in society that pays well.”

Is there something in life you can’t get enough of?

I love watching movies but I also like spontaneous times like when a friend visits and you go coffee shop-hopping or something. I love it when things go unplanned, and at the end of the day, there’s a good story worth to tell. Cinematic moments, I call them.

The things you can never repeat in real life, and felt that the only thing missing was a camera in front of you. As an actor and filmmaker, I see that coming a lot. It reminds me to cherish moments we’ll never have again.

Which 3 types of food do you enjoy eating most in the city you live in?

I love our sabaw food. Tinola, sinigang, lutong Kamatis. We Kapampangans pride ourselves for our cooking!

If you could change or improve one thing about the world, what will it be?

The environment. Make the coal house-making capitalists be more responsible. They’ve contributed so much in climate change, and making the most money. We normalize this abnormal heat and live on aircons – but what about those who cannot afford? And what future could our children possibly have?

Would you rather invent a new gadget or discover a new species?

Discover a new species definitely. Hopefully mermaids or anything Narnia-related 🙁

    Does chivalry still exist today?

Yes, it still does. But it’s often not recognized. Because sometimes the concept of what a good man is should be the norm. 🙁 such as, respecting a woman for saying no. But I believe in those things as well, that, as long as a man genuinely respects a woman, with no other intentions, then the ‘concept’ of ‘chivalry’ doesn’t have to exist because in the end it’s just a term.

One man shouldn’t feel obliged to do good, but do it out of the kindness of their hearts. And I’ve met so many good men in my lives, doing chivalrous things without asking anything in return. I’m lucky enough to have a partner in life like that.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Kristina. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

For me, sexy is when somebody just goes out there and relentlessly pursues their passion. Of course, physical is a bonus, but we all stay for the character.

And people tend to become beautiful when they start doing what they love: it’s in the way they talk or how they seemingly convince you on something.

  • Actor, Model & Creative Sierra Paletta

Actor, Model & Creative Sierra Paletta

Hi there! My name is Sierra Paletta and I’m a NYC based actor, model, and creative. I’m originally from South Jersey and lived there for most of my life besides living in Argentina for some time when I was a kid. I’ve been in NYC for almost seven years now and currently reside in Brooklyn.

Where did your inspiration to be a performer and artist come from?

Ever since I was a kid, I fell in love with performance. I watched American Idol all the time, my mom was really into watching movie musicals, and I was in my first musical when I was 10 years old. I loved playing make believe and getting lost in different worlds and characters excited me. Those seeds planted my dream of becoming an artist and later on I joined my high school choir and performed in all the musicals/plays they had to offer.

As I got older, I also fell in love with the idea of moving to New York City (I lived in suburbia for most of my life) and luckily that fell right into place with my passion for the arts. Living in the city and being surrounded by a variety of art forms allowed me to step into my skin and pursue my passion.

Which is your favorite or most memorable performance so far?

When I was in college, I was in a production of The Laramie Project by Tectonic Theatre Project. We performed in a downtown theatre space called New York Live Arts and the minute I stepped into the space, I teared up. The show itself was a very transformative experience for me. I had always loved fiction and the fantasy side of performing and this show was the opposite: it was a real life story about a horrendous incident that had happened and how it affected the town. In the show I played two characters (one female one male) and at the time it gave me freedom in my identity as genderfluid and made me feel welcome in my own body.

At one point, I gave a monologue on stage by myself to the audience where I did a pelvic thrust amongst other comedic things and it gave me confidence in my role as comedic relief in the play (considering I did a lot of dramatic work throughout college). The whole experience itself was fantastic but the most beautiful thing about the show was being able to share peoples stories and have their voices heard through mine/ours. In this performance, I realized the power of non-fiction material and how it can change lives.

How is a typical day like for you?

Usually I wake up early-ish (anywhere from 8-10am), meditate for 20 minutes either in my bed or in this green velvet chair in my room. I do a daily yoga practice from Yoga with Adriene, make a cup of green tea, eat half a grapefruit (with a teaspoon of sugar) and that’s pretty much the base of my morning.

From there on out, it sprouts into three options: work (my side hustle, serving), hanging at home watching TV/reading/writing, or venturing out into the city and engaging in some activity. My favorite activities at the moment are Lyra classes, archery, practicing stage combat in Central Park with my friends, and whatever exciting new things land in my lap.

What 3 things do you love to do most in the city you live in?

The first one is walking around alone listening to music in Central Park. There is something so classic about escaping into nature while still having echoes of the metropolis all around you. It’s the perfect blend. I grew up surrounded by woods so it feels like home away from home for me.

The second one is going to the MoMA. I used to go a lot when I was in college because it was so close by but it’s another one of those places that feels like home in the city. Visual artists always baffle me and I love looking at paintings and musing and just being surrounded by art. It’s very inspiring and grounding.

The third and last would probably be going out to House of Yes or the Slipper Room with my friends. We’re in different times now because of COVID but those places have changed who I am as a person and made me discover parts of myself that I never knew existed. They also fostered an environment and a community that I didn’t understand I was a part of until I came to the city. In these places, I grew into my most confident self and met people/had experiences I will never forget.

If you could have a super power, what will it be?

The ability to fly. First of all, flying is cool as hell, second I could go anywhere I wanted to in the world. Think about the views! So exciting, I could be on the tops of mountains, buildings, travel a lot. Feels like endless possibilities to me.

Are you more of a morning person or night owl?

Definitely a morning person. I was always that kid at sleepovers that would wake up before everyone else and just kinda let my mind wander for what felt like forever until everyone else woke up. Not much has changed, unless I’m working on/writing something and I can’t stop or I’m out with friends. I’m still that morning person I’ve always been.

What turns you off on a date?

If I don’t have a natural connection with them it’s kind of a bust. I’ve always been a highly sensitive, empathetic person so I’m pretty aware if it’s there or not. It ultimately comes down to the way they treat people; if I get the sense that they are not a generally kind or caring person, that is an immediate turn off.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Sierra. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Sexy is feeling confident in your own skin. Whether that be all natural, full face, naked, fully clothed, everyone has the right circumstances that make them feel proud of their beauty. Seeing burlesque shows in the city taught me a lot about what sexy means and at the end of the day it takes on a different form in everyone.

Once you find what works for you, it’s a matter of being proud of who you are and celebrating that in whatever way you see fit. Wearing lingerie, fake lashes, and a red lip is an easy way in for me 🙂

  • Actress, Emcee & Producer Tammie Chew

Actress, Emcee & Producer Tammie Chew

Hi, I am Tammie Chew. I’m a Singaporean actress, widely known as “Happy” from TV drama “Menantu International” and “Couple Cosmo”, from 2015 to 2020. I’m also an emcee and producer.

Was being in showbiz something you’ve always wanted to do growing up?

Actually no. Growing up in Singapore, I’ve been taught to be practical about my goals. If my friend didn’t sign me up for a beauty pageant, leading to my first TV role, I will have probably continued in my office job. So there were plenty of times when I doubted my career choice, wondering if I should just quit.

What tips or advice can you give to aspiring actors and those who like to go into acting as a career?

As an actor, you need to be resourceful, resilient and very hardworking. All that while still looking your best.

You need to be resilient when facing rejections in auditions, audience’s response, the drastic difference in the highs and lows. You have to understand that rejections and fluctuations in your career is not directly related to your worth. There are simply too many factors to decide whether you’ll have work or be recognised for your work.

You have to be resourceful to find opportunities and make an impression. Even if things are not moving, you still need to continue pushing and improving yourself.

And when you have work, you have to give it your all, make it count, be professional. People need to know that you are good to work with, so your career can have longevity.

What are your proudest achievement so far?

I remember when I first walked the red carpet of the awards ceremony, I felt like all my hardwork and perseverance was worth it. I was nominated as the Most Promising Actor Award at the Mediacorp Pesta Perdana

I thought that was my proudest moment. But it was until much later when my producer told me something that made me realise that being an actor is much bigger than just myself. Someone told my producer that he used to be racist and stubbornly believed that all Mainland Chinese are bad and have no manners. But after watching my show, he realised that he should not be so fixated on his thinking, and is now willing to not be racist. It was then that I realised, as actors, our shows and what we do have an impact in people and the society. And to be able to bring about a positive change is my proudest moment so far.

Do you have a strict beauty or exercise regime that you follow?

I do. I try to exercise at least twice a week. I meditate, try to always have warm drinks instead of chilled drinks. I usually use 7 to 10 skincare products on my face every morning and night.

If you could collaborate with anyone past or present, who will it be?

I have been saying this in multiple interviews and people always laugh when I say this. So, I really want to act alongside Nicholas Tse, and have him as my co-star. Or rather, be his co-star. Other than the fact that he is an awesome actor, I think I will definitely learn a lot from him. But also mainly because he has been my idol since I was 15! I’m ok to not get my actor’s fee just to be able to act alongside my idol. Haha!

Do you have any other hobbies or interests?

I love music and movies. I also love the sun and the waters. So if I am not working, you will probably find me playing the guitar and singing, or in the ktv, or movies. Or jogging, cycling, rollerblading at the beach or reservoirs.

What is an ideal first date to you?

An ideal first date will be… when you are really comfortable with that person. To have long conversations over some wine, without realising that time just flew by.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Tammie. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

To me, sexy is an attitude and state of mind when you want to share the best you with the world or with that someone. But fundamentally, you need to first be truly confident and embrace all of yourself. Only then, you will be able to share that with others.

  • Model & Actor Shraddha Nigam

    Model & Actor Shraddha Nigam

Hi! I’m Shraddha Nigam, born in Lucknow but grew up in Hyderabad. I got the best of both the city, and it is so hard to choose where my heart lies. I am an engineer by profession but a model by passion, who aspires to help young women find their confident selves.

Was modeling and acting something you’ve always wanted to do as a child?

When I was 15, I fell in love with the world of modelling. I used to watch modelling shows and imitate ramp walks wearing long heels, tripping most of the times. It was quite fun, besides the bruises.

I guess acting is the next progressive step most of the models take wanting to explore the world of cinema. Personally, I am happy with modelling, but my family and friends call me a drama queen, and it must be because of all the tantrums I throw at them. They find me a perfect fit for it, and I want to put their intuition to action.

How will you describe your fashion style and where do you shop from?

Fashion, for me, is being comfortable in my own skin and having a unique persona. I like experimenting with my clothing, styles and accessories. I always look for things which I can carry confidently and goes with the mood of the place.

I believe in shopping sustainability and creating multiple variations of the same clothing. This makes sure my bank account is not upset and allows me to create new styles. I usually shop from Amazon, Myntra and Forever 21 when they are good offers.

Is there any food or drink you can’t live without?

Even though I love modelling, I never compromised on my eating habits. However, I make sure I get what is required and healthy for my body type. Fried chicken is my favourite, especially when it is made by my mother on a monsoon rainy afternoon. But I do not mind having it daily if my parents can afford. Nevertheless, I do give rest to my taste buds during the festive season and Thursdays.

Yes, I love drinking ‘maa ke haat ke chai’ along with Osmania biscuit. Hyderabadi ke jo hu mere jaan.

Where in the world will you love to travel to if given a choice?

Every place has its own story and memory in itself. If I had the money, I would love to see all the seven wonders of the world along with my parents. This would be my gift to them for all the sacrifices they have made for me.

How do you like to spend your free time?

During my free time, you would see me meditating, going for casual walks and doing yoga. On my cheat days, I binge watch movies, TV shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime. My favourite TV shows are Friends, Money Heist and Vampire Diaries.

Do you believe in any superstition?

I believe that luck favors the brave. I put all the hard work in everything I do and hope for a positive outcome. So far it has worked well in my favour.

What do you not get about guys?

On the contrary, I would say men are easy to understand and emotionally fragile. It takes the right women to churn the best of their man and vice versa. I’ll be lucky to have such a guy in my life.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Shraddha. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I believe the word sexy is perceived in a negative connotation in our Indian culture. For me, Sexy is an emotion when you see something beautiful and confident. Example: I am sexy!

  • Catching Up With Model Rachael Sofia

Catching Up With Model Rachael Sofia

This year was really unexpected, but it gave me time to slow down and focus on the most important parts of my life which I’m very grateful for. I had three months of nothing but video call with the person that means the most to me and I felt we grew so much closer even though it absolutely sucked.

The plans I had for this year didn’t take too big of a hit but I have some really cool stuff coming for next year when everything hopefully returns to normal.

Was there a silver lining or something positive that came out of all this for you?

As weird as it’ll sound, lots of things actually. I became very focused on slowing down and working on my own growth spiritually. My relationship grew a lot stronger too as communication for the greater part of quarantine was all we really had. I think a lot of people went through a great period of change and finding themselves and my heart goes out to everyone who endured hardships as this pandemic was at its largest point in the country, you guys are strong!

Do you see any changes to the modeling and acting industry in future or will things go back to the same once normalcy sets in?

As someone who’s been actively a part of the community for 3 1/2 years now, I think it will of course be different but maybe in a positive way. I think this will open up new doors where it might close others as far as the traditional sequences go but I’m very interested to see what’s next.

Are there any projects you have lined for the rest of 2020 and early 2021?

I do have a couple actually! They’re top secret right now though but my hint to you is keep your eyes on my Instagram.

Which movie or TV show did you watch recently and do you recommend it?

Oh yeah *laughs* I watch a lot of movies, anime, everything really. One of my favourite anime’s I’ve watched over and over though is Death Note, it’s cool!

I’ve always been into that darker, mystery, horror kinda vibe when picking shows that interest me so I kind of naturally gravitated towards that one when I first saw it. I highly recommend it though, 10/10 for sure.

How many tattoos do you have and is there a story behind one of them?

I have 9 tattoos (I just counted my half sleeve as one) and yes, there is a story behind every one of them. Typing it would be way too long but if you know me, ask and maybe I’ll tell you.

Do you believe in any superstition?

I believe in a lot of what would be called “superstitions” because I’m very spiritual and I believe the reason things happen aren’t just because they happened but definitely for a higher purpose, whatever that purpose may mean to that person.

I believe in karma, that’s real without a doubt and seeing like, number sequences multiple times too. I always know my angels are looking over me and guiding me.

Before we end, do you have any shoutouts or final thoughts to your fans and our readers?

My final thoughts to end this on are, you’re all so strong and important. This pandemic for wherever you are in the world will not be forever and I’m sending all my love to the people who’ve really gone through it and possibly still are.

I know once this pandemic passes, life will be different for all of us affected but let’s continue supporting and caring about each other like it never stopped. I also wanted to say the BLM movement has brought justice for so many and to keep fighting until we have justice for all. This turn of the century has brought so much big change, so let’s keep it going as a community.

Actor, Singer & Burlesque Performer Valentina J’Adore

I am a performing artist currently based in Houston, Texas. I am from College Station, Texas but haven’t spent much time there since I left for college. I have a degree in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University and have spent the better part of time after graduation in Houston.

How long have you been a burlesque performer and what do you love about it?

I have been a burlesque performer for four years now. I love the artistic freedom it allows, the glamour of it, and the thrill of getting to interact directly with my audience. It’s a beautiful art form that celebrates the human body and sexuality in a unique and smart way; that’s what drew me to it in particular.

What kind of training does one have to undergo to become a burlesque performer?

One doesn’t have to undergo any one type of training to be a burlesque performer. There are artists from many different backgrounds in the field and so there are many different types of burlesque. As someone who is highly trained in musical theatre with dance being my strongest form, I tap into my choreography skills, my dance technique and my understanding of how to tell a story to help me when I am creating an act.

There are also elements of my training I had to unlearn in a sense because they did not serve me in burlesque the same way they had in a musical. But other performers, such as someone who comes from a circus background, is going to bring skills and strengths to their acts that are very different from mine but still translate just as beautifully into burlesque. That’s the beauty of it, it has space for all types of artists.

For those who have never been to a burlesque show before, what can they expect when attending one for the first time?

Lots of sexy fun! Burlesque is most likely going to bring a smile to your face and audience participation is usually encouraged. Unlike a traditional theatre setting, we want you to clap, hoot and holler as loud as you can for the things we’re doing! As far as what to expect from the acts, you really have to be ready for anything!

Some shows have classic burlesque, some have neo-burlesque and some have a mix of everything. If you can, do a little research about the show you’re going to attend before you go. Always come prepared to let loose, have fun, make noise and not take life or sexiness too seriously.

Do you believe in any superstition?

I don’t really believe in superstition but I do believe in energy and karma. I have my own spiritual practice to keep myself centered and grounded.

If you can learn anything in this world, what will it be?

How to be a director. I love putting all the pieces together when it comes to creating and I would love to someday learn how to be in the director’s seat of a production.

    Which flavor best describes you?

    Mystery flavor.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Valentina. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

It’s beyond beauty or age, it’s a confidence and an attitude. It’s there for the taking if you want it.

    Multi-Talented English Performer Laura Lake

Hi, thank you so much for having me! I am a singer, dancer, actor, model and training stuntwoman from London England.

    What inspires your fashion style?

Oh good question, in normal life I love classic cuts and tailored clothing. I love going to LFW and seeing the latest trends and the amazing creativity from the designers, but I would say I am most inspired by old Hollywood glam. However on set/performing I can be in anything from a bejeweled leotard to combat army gear which is also a lot of fun.

    Photo: Anna Fowler

How do you keep up to date with all the latest fashion styles and trends?

I love nothing more than sitting with a copy of Vogue or Elle with a cup of tea to keep up to date. I also enjoy scrolling through Instagram as there always seems to be an abundance of different styles and trend fusions that look amazing.

What is the best compliment you have received?

I sometimes get told that I “light up the room”. Which is really cool as I love to make others feel good and spread joy.

Do you have a strict beauty or exercise regime that you follow?

I do for both. For my skin I always have two litres of water a day, twice a week I exfoliate with elemis and use facemasks. Each day I wash my face with water, then Clinique cleanser, toner, I then put on a serum, moisturizer and sunblock. At the end of the day I cleanse and tone my skin followed by a Lancôme night balm.

For my hair I put John Frieda serum on the ends every day, I try not to put heat on it if I can and every second wash I only use Bumble invisible oil conditioner (naturally my hair curly/frizzy), I use Olapex no.3 hair mask twice a week – it’s a game changer! It has saved my hair from all the backcombing etc from being on set. I also only brush my hair when it has conditioner in or if I am straightening/styling it.

Exercise, I set myself a new program every six weeks – training for the stunt register is pretty challenging so I have to make sure I am physically fit. I train six times a week and have a cheat/rest day along with yoga, dancing, kickboxing, gymnastics, trampolining, swimming and horse riding.

If you could have a superpower, what will it be?

Oh love this question! Umm I would love to be able to teleport; it would save so much time! Haha.

Do you believe in any superstition?

I do, I am quite superstitious. I read tarot cards, auras and palms. I have soooo many crystals and love to meditate. I have lots of little superstitious habits, one that often receives a funny look is if someone sneezes, I say bless you, they say thank you and I clap twice…. It’s a weird habit that started when I was five and it has stuck. It is said that it saves a fairies’ life when you clap haha.

What turns you off on a date?

Rudeness – kindness costs nothing and means everything. 😊

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Laura. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Thank you so much for having me! Its been fun. I think sexy is an inner confidence that you exude, it’s an energy. Anyone can be sexy, it’s a combination of their confidence, humor and how they make you feel.
