How Did I Start Camming?
Craigslist! No, really. I’m disabled and my disabilities got too crazy to sustain a “vanilla” job, so I was looking for another work from home job. I found a post on Craigslist about a site looking for girls to get naked on cam. I did some more research, found MyFreeCams (Corii_Siren is my username) and started within 12 hours. And here I am, 5 years later!
Why Is Camming So Popular?
I think it is so popular because of the convenience. There has been a WILD influx of girls in the past 6 months or so who think it’s easy money, etc. even though it isn’t. But, for those of us who do this as a career, it’s convenience as far as not being able to work because of illnesses or wanting to stay home with their kids or maybe just a love for exhibitionism.
It’s a form of porn, so no, I don’t think it will. And with the not-so-desirable guys who record our shows, there will always, at LEAST, be amateur porn out there. However, mainstream porn is such a money maker that I don’t think it will ever completely go away and that’s totally OK.
What Makes Me Unique
You have to figure out a way to stand out. I’m not saying you have to have a talent or go sky diving on cam (although I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt), but you have to be able to connect with your clients. Camming is a lot about personality and individual attention these days.
Misconceptions New Camgirls Should Know
That it’s easy. By no means is this line of work easy. Guys and girls alike make this misconception. Most people don’t realize the amount of time we spend still working when we are NOT live on cam. Also, dealing with assholes and a lot of drama comes with the territory. You are judged by a lot of people. It’s definitely not easy.
Common Mistakes To Avoid
SELLING HERSELF SHORT. There are so many girls who actually do research before they become a camgirl and for one reason or another end up thinking that they need to sell their content and items super cheap. No matter what, a girl should always know her worth. Also, stay away from the drama, don’t bitch *too* much (which can be hard when things aren’t going well) and don’t lie. Just be yourself.
Is Preparation Required Before Going On Cam?
I literally don’t. There is a funny thing between a lot of camgirls that we feel like when we log on with no makeup, hair tied, pajamas, playing video games that we make more money than when we log on all dolled up. It varies so much, but then again, variety is the spice of life! Me, personally – I just wing it. Sometimes I get “cute,” sometimes I don’t. But, I do crank some music to get hype and in a really good mood before going live!
I completely improvise. I never know what kind of mood my viewers will be in when I get online, so I check that out first and we see where things go! It has always worked for me. If there is some kind of big show I want to do, I plan for it and promote in advance.
