Content Creator, Model & Brand Ambassador Franchesca Maryein Espinas

Hi I’m Franchesca Maryein Espinas! I am currently a graduating Communication Arts major in the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde. At the age of 21, I am currently the CEO of a transportation and real estate corporation located in Manila, Philippines. I started young in the business because I knew that my heart belonged to it. I enjoy working with them a lot and developing good relationships without noticing the workload.

In my spare time, I am a content creator, model and brand ambassador to certain brands like Shopee, Ponds, Rebisco, Carefree and Silka. To be honest, I am astounded that a company like SimplySxy contacted me to conduct this interview. As a neophyte in the industry, I knew that being part of this interview is a huge privilege for me to share my knowledge and capabilities through my platform.

In the later part, I aspire to be a criminal lawyer that is of service with the Filipino people. Justice in modern times is not easily sought. I wanted to become someone that uses her platform for the betterment of the community.

What inspires your fashion style and where do you love to shop from?

The fashion style that I have is more of a modern chic style with the touch of an alluring accent. The femine side of me brings out my personality that loves anything pink, pastel and glitter. At the same time, I enjoy being posh through the branded items I choose in order for an outfit to stand out with class. My style icon is Heart Evangelista which is the darling of the Philippines. She incorporates her modern day look with a designer item that easily captivates the eye of the public.

Also, I prefer heels more than flats to accentuate my style better. I shop at H&M and Zara because of their loath recyclable trends. Zara’s wardrobe is built around hero pieces, and trend items that are cheap and transient. It is a formula that works for more frugal customers like myself.

How much of a foodie are you and what are your favorites?

I am currently on an Intermittent Diet that is within the 20:4 scale but within the eating window, I usually go for anything dipped with vinegar or cheese. I love takoyaki and egg waffles if it is a cheat day. Thus, I could say I am a foodie. I have a refined interest in international cuisine and I like trying new flavors.

Recently, I have indulged in Mexican cuisine because the spices really captivate the whole meal. Once a guy captured my taste, It really caught my interest for I knew we would delve into the same taste.

What hobbies or interests are you into?

Besides the hectic schedule that I have, I enjoy buying properties at an early age. I invest into lifelong properties that do not depreciate in the market. Recently, I just bought a house of my own or maybe for the future haha! Kidding aside, investments drawn into land is always a win because every year there is an increased land value depicted by the market.

And as a normal young adult, I like to go out and shop at the leading retail malls in the Philippines. It is exciting to go to trendy places and get some photo shoots that are easily posted all over my social media. I am a very active social media user and I share the products and services I encounter most often.

Do you believe in any superstition?

My family believes that superstitions exist because my ancestors lived in the province. They often say that superstitions have been shown to promote a positive mental attitude. Although they can lead to irrational decisions, such as trusting in the merits of good luck and destiny rather than sound decision making.

I personally don’t believe in its existence but believe that we make our own destiny and future. It is only an effective motivation which is a basic desire to exert control over one’s environment. When no natural cause can explain a situation, attributing an event to a superstitious cause gives people some sense of control and ability to predict what will happen in their environment.

Are there any quotes or mottos you like to use regularly?

There is only one quote I live my life into and that is, “A woman remains to be unstoppable after she realizes she deserves the best”. It connotes that a woman will overcome everything that is meant to destroy her.

Growing up, there has always been an implication that women have limitations. But, I would like to negate that ideology and change it to be a girl with a mind, a woman with an attitude and a lady with class.

If you could learn anything in this world, what would it be?

Aside from the aspiration I have to be a lawyer, I want to learn how to use protective range weapons in order to protect myself and my family. There is this connotation that women can’t shoot or aim for the right target and I want to defy that existing norm. Growing up, I always admired people who protect the marginalized and the voiceless. They give me chills whenever they save people in danger. The knowledge that will learn regarding the protective gears will be used for the better good and not to cause harm alone.

What do you not get about guys?

One thing that I don’t get about guys is that they already have the ideal or close to perfect girl, they tend to mess up or cheat. These instances cause women to develop a barrier or trust issues into the red flag acts that they committed. Lately, I realized that finding the perfect gem (partner) is not that easy. So when the time comes that the perfect girl arrives, remember to give her all the love and attention she needs and make her feel that she is the only girl in your life.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Franchesca. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

The ins and outs of what makes a person attractive is a topic that virtually everyone has spent a great deal of time thinking about – it would be safe to say that it only stops being at the forefront of the average person’s mind after that person has finally decided to settle down and withdraw from the dating scene. I could say that smart is the new sexy.

Someone who’s able to blow your mind by picking your brain can be so much more attractive than someone who obsesses over their appearance. They keep your interest by evoking yours. Intelligent people have so many layers to them, so it takes time to get to know them. But one thing is guaranteed: peeling away those layers will leave you wanting more.

CEO and Swimwear Designer Laura Patricia on the Types of Bikini Every Women Should Own

    Who is Laura?

Hi SimplySxy! It’s my pleasure and thanks so much for featuring me on your cool site. My name is Laura Patricia and I’m of half Sri Lankan and half Filipino descent. I have my own clothing collection called Urban Niche which specializes in swimwear, dresses and gymwear. Apart from that I’ve been modelling part time for about 7 years now and have been very blessed to appear in several local and international magazines such as FHM, CLEO, Debonair and even commercials for brands like Johnnie Walker and Axe. I’m also a freelance travel writer for Leisure Travel Magazine and I do emceeing and event management occasionally.

Tell us more about Urban Niche and how you started it.

I started Urban Niche in 2013. I decided to do it as I’ve always been very passionate about fashion and the latest clothing trends. My focus for the brand has mostly been swimwear as I find that in KL there is sometimes very limited choices when it comes to finding a perfect bikini design that suits your body type. Being a bikini model for so many years, I’ve been truly blessed to meet so many people in the industry including photographers, models and makeup artists, some of whom I’ve become very good friends with. Everyone was so supportive when I decided to start the brand and I got so much help and support with all the photoshoots and fashion shows that it started to escalate really well. I now have a pretty decent following on Facebook and Instagram as well as a store in Paradigm Mall called Red’s Revenge where my merchandise is sold. I’ve also branched out into dresses and gymwear. I find the gymwear doing particularly well this year as there are more and more women getting into health and fitness these days. I’m actually considering venturing into a lingerie line as well next year if all goes well.

What types of bikini should every lady own?

Well to me the most important thing when it comes to wearing a bikini is that a woman should feel comfortable and confident in it. If you feel sexy on the inside you will automatically portray that on the outside as well. Of course one should know their body type while choosing a bikini so that they know what design will fall best on them. I find that a lot of women like the monokinis that are the one piece swimsuits as it gives more coverage in certain areas to cover body parts that they might feel insecure about. Some ladies who are bolder and more daring like the bikinis which come in several types of designs such as bikini thongs, bandage bikinis, tanga bikinis, bandeau bikinis and even Brazillian bikinis. If a woman is keen on getting a perfect even tan, then I would definitely recommend the bikinis with less coverage to achieve that.

    4

    Do you have any hobbies?

Yes I certainly do! I got very into health and fitness about two years back. I try to hit the gym at least 2-3 times a week. I also enjoy yoga and swimming as I find it very relaxing. I used to be a figure skater when I was younger but unfortunately I had a terrible knee injury and had to stop. I still do enjoy skating but can’t do it at such an intense pace as I used to before. For leisure, I enjoy shopping and watching movies during the weekend. I can also play a pretty wicked game of pool if anyone is up for it!

    5

Which is one memorable travel encounter you have experienced so far?

I would have to say my recent trip to Japan just last month was one of the most interesting and beautiful places I’ve ever been to. I was actually there for work to cover a few specific places for the travel magazine that I write for. It was truly a different experience for me as the whole history, culture and beauty of Japan was absolutely intriguing. I was in Osaka for a couple of days, and I really liked the winter fashion for women over there which I found super cute. The food was amazing as well and was definitely one of the highlights of the trip as I’ve always been a huge fan of Japanese cuisine. Apart from that, another memorable encounter was probably my trip to LA a few years ago. I was there as Miss Eaglerider Malaysia at the Long Beach Grand Prix which was so much fun! I definitely dig the Hollywood vibe and I just love the style and fashion over there. Everyone looks like they just stepped out of a movie or a magazine!

    7

    Where do you usually shop?

I absolutely love H&M! I don’t think I’ve ever walked in there without buying something! Lol. Their recent collaboration HM X Balmain was so gorgeous but unfortunately most of the stuff was sold out by the time I got there. Apart from that, I like Miss Selfridge, Bebe, Zara, MNG and Topshop. I’m really into highstreet fashion and the urban look. For lingerie I like Lasenza and Victoria’s Secret as they always have really nice cuttings and cute designs. For shoes, I usually head to Charles & Keith, Aldo, Guess or Vincci. When it comes to makeup, I usually stick to brands that I’m comfortable with like MAC, Sephora, Bobbi Brown and Urban Decay.

    8

What is the most expensive item you have ever splurged on?

The most expensive item I ever splurged on was probably my Burberry Bag. It was a rather ridiculous price for it but it was so lovely I just couldn’t help myself! Lol.

    10

Which is your favorite body part?

I like my eyes. I like the way they’re shaped and I’ve been told by several people I have very feline like features. I think your eyes are the window to your soul and you can always read a person a little bit better by looking directly into their eyes. Plus which man can’t be disarmed with a sexy glance? 😉

    11

Thank you for taking your time to answer our questions on SimplySxy. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

I think sexy is more of an attitude. It is a confidence with a touch of class. Of course I think every woman should groom themselves and make sure they look great for their man and even occasionally surprise him with some sexy lingerie after he comes back from a long day at work. However, it is not necessarily always related to physical appearances but can also sometimes be more of a mental connection you have with someone. To me, being sexy is being ambitious and independent because I think a woman should believe in herself first before trying to impress anyone else.
