Model, Actress & Burlesque Performer, Perline DuBarry

I’m really please to share a bit about myself with your readers. I have been born and raised in Paris, France!

How did you get into modeling and what do you enjoy about it?

Modeling was first because I needed to explore myself and my own femininity at a time where I wasn’t confident. It became a passion and also a way to express myself because it’s really about acting in front of the camera and I like it.

Was Burlesque easy to pick up with your ballet dancing experience?

Actually it wasn’t! I had quit dancing for a while (10 years ago) when I met the Burlesque world in Sydney. At that time I was taking step by step to come back to enjoy dancing after 10 years of doing something else and Burlesque dancing has been a revelation for me!

However my body condition was terribly bad so it’s was technically hard and it’s also about sharing a story and to be able to be proud of your body on stage which is very scary.

What can someone who has never attended a Burlesque or cabaret show expect from their first experience?

Honestly, I will say, “be prepared for everything, because anything can happen!”

This is the beauty of burlesque!

Which 3 fun things do you enjoy doing most in Paris?

Well I don’t think I’m a reference because I’m pretty traditional and I enjoy traditional institutions in Paris, so my top 3 will be to:

    • Grab a ticket to watch a ballet to the Opera de Paris,
    • Another one to “la Comédie Francaise”
    • Go up onto the last floor of “Les Galeries Lafayette “ to have a cup of tea and admire the roofs of Paris!

If you could change or improve one thing about the world, what will it be?

Gosh… There are so many things that we can improve in our world but if I have to choose, I will choose to improve the conditions of women all over the world.

Because I feel closely (obviously I’m a woman) about this and this is unacceptable that in our time, men and women don’t have the same statutes and the same chances in life because of our sexes.

Would you rather invent a new gadget or discover a new species?

I want to definitely discover a new species!! Some species die because of climate change but I’m sure some new ones are born as well! And it will give a bit of hope and happiness to people I think.

    Does chivalry still exist today?

It never went away, it just took a different form. And in my opinion, it’s a good thing because we have change the codes between men and women (yes again) and chivalry was so redactor for woman.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Perline. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

There is nothing more sexy than a man or a woman who is confident and proud of themselves and their body.

    Be sexy…

Actor, Singer & Burlesque Performer Valentina J’Adore

I am a performing artist currently based in Houston, Texas. I am from College Station, Texas but haven’t spent much time there since I left for college. I have a degree in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University and have spent the better part of time after graduation in Houston.

    Photo: Juan Cardenas

How long have you been a burlesque performer and what do you love about it?

I have been a burlesque performer for four years now. I love the artistic freedom it allows, the glamour of it, and the thrill of getting to interact directly with my audience. It’s a beautiful art form that celebrates the human body and sexuality in a unique and smart way; that’s what drew me to it in particular.

What kind of training does one have to undergo to become a burlesque performer?

One doesn’t have to undergo any one type of training to be a burlesque performer. There are artists from many different backgrounds in the field and so there are many different types of burlesque. As someone who is highly trained in musical theatre with dance being my strongest form, I tap into my choreography skills, my dance technique and my understanding of how to tell a story to help me when I am creating an act.

There are also elements of my training I had to unlearn in a sense because they did not serve me in burlesque the same way they had in a musical. But other performers, such as someone who comes from a circus background, is going to bring skills and strengths to their acts that are very different from mine but still translate just as beautifully into burlesque. That’s the beauty of it, it has space for all types of artists.

    Photo: Mikah Danae

For those who have never been to a burlesque show before, what can they expect when attending one for the first time?

Lots of sexy fun! Burlesque is most likely going to bring a smile to your face and audience participation is usually encouraged. Unlike a traditional theatre setting, we want you to clap, hoot and holler as loud as you can for the things we’re doing! As far as what to expect from the acts, you really have to be ready for anything!

Some shows have classic burlesque, some have neo-burlesque and some have a mix of everything. If you can, do a little research about the show you’re going to attend before you go. Always come prepared to let loose, have fun, make noise and not take life or sexiness too seriously.

Do you believe in any superstition?

I don’t really believe in superstition but I do believe in energy and karma. I have my own spiritual practice to keep myself centered and grounded.

    Photo: DMR Depictions

If you can learn anything in this world, what will it be?

How to be a director. I love putting all the pieces together when it comes to creating and I would love to someday learn how to be in the director’s seat of a production.

    Which flavor best describes you?

    Mystery flavor.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Valentina. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

It’s beyond beauty or age, it’s a confidence and an attitude. It’s there for the taking if you want it.

  • Performer & Contortionist Emiria Morihata

    Performer & Contortionist Emiria Morihata

I was born in South Africa, my father is mixed Italian and Dutch, and my mother is Japanese. I live in Magdeburg Germany with my fiancé. I am working at Variete Theaters, at dinner shows, Burlesque shows, the Sexy Circus, and at Gig Shows.

I studied rhythm gymnastics and modern ballet. And also learnt to aerial hoop and circus act. When I was in America, I learned pole dancing. It was a great experience. But I broke my shoulder and lost my flexibility. Then I decided to be a contortionist again!! For me it is like a fish in the water.

I am still not finished being an artist. I am looking forward to continue creating my character to be very unique and special. So, step by step I found exactly one unique contortion style. This is called the “Massage Bench Contortionist”. I was in the German TV show “Das super Talent 2018” and my next performance is “Et Cetera Variete” in Bochum.

What hobbies and interests do you have?

    Diving, home parties, summer sports…everything.

How did your interest in being a contortionist come about?

I followed my sister in joining rhythm gymnastics and modern ballet. Then I was very excited and kept doing it for 17 years. My sister did it for two years then she quit. But now she is a super popular cosplayer.

What is a typical day like for you?

Breakfast, contortion training for three hours, lunch (protein shake), gym for 1.5 hours. Spending time with my fiancé or friends. In the evening, I must drink one glass of white wine.

Which is a memorable show or performance have you had before?

OMG, this is my big surprise and never ever had it before.

My fiancé proposed to me on stage….In my act (please follow for the picture and videos) I just want to say he is my dream man and I am the luckiest woman in the world.

If you could learn anything in this world, what will it be?

    Breathing under water.

Have you been in an embarrassing situation that is funny now when you look back?

I didn’t forget my show costume, but I forgot my general outfit. Then I asked all my colleagues to have some of their outfits.

What is a funny or lame attempt a guy has tried to know you before?

Once I was practicing in the gym, I did my hip exercise, one guy tried to tell me that my training was wrong and I was hurting my back. He offered to show me a better way. But I am a professional artist and I know how to train right for 17 years, so I said to him, “No thank you, my back is healthy and I know what I am doing.” After that, I saw him trying the same on another woman. I was laughing because the guy doesn’t come to the gym to practice fitness.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Emiria. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

My opinion in defining sexy is having a passion for life. When I have a passion on the stage, I feel like “I am super sexy in the world”. This makes me motivated and confident. I will say, please find your passion – this is very sexy!!

  • Model & Burlesque Dancer Kia Sangria

Model & Burlesque Dancer Kia Sangria

I am from New York City, The Bronx to be specific (Where the famous Joker Steps are)

What hobbies and interests do you have?

That’s hard because I love a lot of things my hobbies include Cosplay, Burlesque, and Modeling. In terms of my interests I enjoy comic book movies and pop-culture, I’m also a makeup fiend. I have enough eyeshadow palettes to cover my queen sized bed!

Which is your most or one of your more memorable travel experiences so far?

I took a trip to the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2018 and it was beautiful! I got chased by a peacock, it was truly wild.

Do you believe in any superstition?

Hmmm…Yes and no, as a practicing witch, I do know that there are things out there that cannot be explained but at the same time, there are things that can be explained scientifically.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or experience but have yet to find the time for it?

I’ve always wanted to host my own Podcast! I’m still strongly considering it and have been jotting down show topics in my journal!

Have you been in an embarrassing situation that is funny now when looking back?

I’m convinced that anyone who doesn’t have an answer to this isn’t human. Of course I have! Once upon a time maybe two years ago while performing on stage, I farted during my burlesque act! I was so mortified because it had never happened before and it was anything but sexy.

The worst part? I couldn’t even express my embarrassment because I was performing in character and had to keep up the sexy appearance. Lucky for me, my music was loud enough to hide the toot, but yeah it still haunts me.

If you could have a superpower, what will it be?

I would love to be able to see infinite possibilities in life.

What do you not get about guys?

I understand the men pretty well, as a woman in this world I have no choice but to be aware of men, their actions, and their mentality. At this point it’s like breathing and there isn’t really anything mysterious to me about the male collective. I would even go so far as to say women understand you better than you guys understand yourselves at times.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Kia. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

It’s going to be so cliche for me to say, “Sexy is what you make of it”.

Sexy to me is owning everything about yourself physically and spiritually and saying, “This is hot and I enjoy what it is I have”. To be honest, I still struggle with seeing myself as sexy but this is usually what I default to.

  • Australian Burlesque Performer Nona Mona

    Australian Burlesque Performer Nona Mona

I’m Nona Mona, a burlesque performer and part time radio host from Adelaide South Australia. Occasionally, people entrust me with a microphone to emcee their shows… brave souls!

How will you describe your fashion style?

I would have to say I am pretty casual, nothing beats jeans, a singlet and sneakers. When it is time to step it up though, I’d describe my style as classic elegant and glamourous.

Are there any fashion accessories you can’t live without?

I’m a handbag girl, mainly because I carry so much crap. You need a mint after dinner, I got you covered. You need a tissue because you cried at the movies, bam! Climbed some stairs and now you can’t breathe, I’ve got a spare inhaler etc etc.

What is the best compliment you have received?

I didn’t realise I was getting a comedy show with my lap dance

On a scale of 1-10, how much of a party animal are you?

A solid 10…. oh sorry I read that as “how much do you party with animals”. I was like, um I love hanging out with my cats!

Generally a 6, I’m pretty over the party phase these days. Give me seating, no line ups, clean toilets and decent vodka, watch me rage the night away in my chair. Don’t get me wrong, there are the odd few that have had to witness level 10 Nona, but that’s sometimes food.

If you could meet with anyone past or present, who will it be?

    100% Robin Williams.

Do you have any hobbies or interests?

Absolutely love reading, drinking coffee and eating pastries. In no particular order. I’m obviously a very interesting person.

What turns you off on a date?

When a person talks about their ex, has bad breath and tries to halve a bill.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Nona. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

To me sexy is: funny, confident, intelligent and deviant. (In that particular order).

Burlesque Dancer & Pin-Up Model Kiki Kisses

It is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy Kiki.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Kia Ora! I’m Kiki Kisses from the corner of the world that is New Zealand! By day I am a graphic designer and digital marketer and by night I shimmy around the stage as a burlesque dancer. My friends describe me as a fizzy unicorn! I’m the reigning Miss Burlesque Beauty and Miss Frankton Thunder, which has helped immensely with my pin-up modelling! You could say I have my fingers in a lot of pies

    Photo: Rochel Nilendra Photography

How did you interest in burlesque start?

I spent my childhood making googly eyes at classics like Grease, Dirty Dancing & Fred Astaire movies which started with vintage fashion and naturally progressed into the glitz and glam that is burlesque. I’m a magpie at the best of times!

    Photo: @3fatesmediaAngel Leggass

Is there a story behind one of your tattoos?

There is a story behind every single one! The one I would have to say means the most is my wrists. In Scottish Gaelic they say “shall be Merry” “shall be Frank” but it’s a bit of a play on words. The obvious – ‘Be Happy – Be Honest’ but also, my grandparents names were Mary and Frank.

Do you have a memorable photoshoot experience to share?

The most memorable to date would be when www.rikmedia.nz (Richard) and I went on a full day shoot in Northern NZ!

From 5am to 6.30pm, we shot in beaches, forests, rivers, waterfalls and even glow worm caves! It was a fun, but very tiring day!

    Photo: Rik

What is a typical day like for yourself?

Typical day consists of me getting up – usually lying in for 20min and the other 20min frantically trying to get out the door. Heading to work during the day – designing, filming or on the computer. Head to the dance studio for a couple of hours and then home to diamante or something else creative.

    Photo: Nicholas Pollock

Do you have any other hobbies?

I make acrylic earrings at the moment. I work for an art supply company – so I’m always finding an excuse to buy some new products and be creative!

How long do you think you’ll survive a zombie apocalypse?

HA!!! Not long at all – I’m one of the clumsiest people you’ll ever meet – especially when I’ve had a glass or 6 of bubbles! Haha

    Photo: Rochel Nilendra Photography

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Kiki. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

One thing I find super sexy is when someone is being them genuine selves. I admire people that can just let their freak flag fly without caring what others think. You do you! And I can define sexiness in the same realm – having confidence in yourself – first and foremost – that’s what true sexiness is.

  • Burlesque Performer, Model & Cosplayer Ruby Rapture

Burlesque Performer, Model & Cosplayer Ruby Rapture

Hi Ruby it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

I’m Ruby Rapture, a Burlesque perfomer, cosplayer, and model based out of Florida. I lived in California until I was 8, but I love Florida, and the friends I’ve made here, although the humidity is awful!

How did your interest in cosplay develop?

I was actually cosplaying before I knew what cosplay was! When I was 15, my school held a costume contest.  I was obsessed with this manga called Di Gi Charat so I decided to dress as Rabi en Rose for the contest. My mother helped me make the costume. No one knew who I was but I still came in 2nd place to a kid dressed as Jesus.

What challenges do cosplayers face that is not usually known?

For me, as a female cosplayer, I see a lot of the creepier side of cosplay.  There’s a line between appreciation and degradation. Cosplayers put their hearts and souls into their work, we love these characters and just want to share that love with others.  Regardless of what someone is wearing, they should be treated with  respect.

Is there an experience everyone should try at least once in their life?

Burlesque! I think everyone has the right to feel sexy and awesome and burlesque is such a fun way to channel that.

You have a passion for burlesque dancing too. What do you love about it?

I love everything about burlesque, the lights, the crowd, the routines, but most of all I love the feeling of performing burlesque.  It’s so empowering.  I had a lot of body issues as a breast cancer survivor; performing made me feel beautiful and confident. My burlesque family is amazing, too.  I manage Shaken not Stirred Burlesque, and the girls in my troupe are really supportive.

What motto or quotes do you live by?

I think the thing I say the most is “everything is fine,” but my motto is glitter and be great . Or ROADHOUSE!

If you could describe yourself as a flavor, what will it be?

    Ruby Red Raspberry!

What exciting projects can we see you in the coming months?

I have a lot of awesome stuff going on over the next few months.  I’m performing with Shaken not Stirred Burlesque at Epicon on August 19th , then catch me and few of the girls at Space Coast Comic con September 8th and 9th, and at the end of September I’m starring in a short film that I wrote with my best friend.  Check the links for more details!

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Ruby. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Confidence, Charisma, and being comfortable enough to be your own damn self. That’s sexy, own it.

    Illinois Model Penny Aphrodite

Hi Penny it is a pleasure to feature you on SimplySxy.  Please share with our readers a little about yourself and where you’re from?

Thank you so much for having me! I was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and now I currently reside in Central Illinois.

    Photo: Fine Art Photography ( www.fineart-adel.com )

What do you love about modeling?

The ability it gives you to be different characters/people, to take you to different worlds and different era’s, and being able to dress up in all sorts of fun outfits!

    Fine Art Photography ( www.fineart-adel.com )

How will you describe a typical day for yourself?

This is going to sound strange, but I usually wake up and start my day around 3pm. Once I wake up and get ready, I either go to rehearsal for a local theatre production I’m in, have burlesque practice, or go out and do a photoshoot. Once the night starts I head off to my day to day job, which is night audit at a nice hotel in my town.

On my off days I usually am watching my favorite TV series/anime, playing video games, or sewing either my cosplay or burlesque outfits.

    Photo: Sparky Seduction ( www.facebook.com/Sparky-Seduction-1625941324336929/ )

Is there an experience everyone should try at least once in their life?

Travel. I can not stress enough how strongly I recommend going on vacation to your dream destination, either alone or with company. So many people I meet let work schedules, finances, fear of leaving, everyday life – anything, to prevent them from seeing the world. Take the time, save up, and spoil yourself at least once. There’s so much out there, and everyone deserves a chance to see it.

    Photo: SKGlamour Photography ( www.facebook.com/skglamor/ )

Which is the sexiest item in your wardrobe?

Only one? My whole wardrobe seems to consist of leather, lace, and lingerie. I actually have a harder time picking out outfits for everyday wear then for a night out.

    Photo: SKGlamour Photography ( www.facebook.com/skglamor/ )

What motto do you live by?

There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.” – Aristotle

    Photo: SKGlamour Photography ( www.facebook.com/skglamor/ )

If you could describe yourself as a flavor, what will it be?

Vanilla! Original, a classic, and you never grow bored of it.

What do you find attractive in the opposite sex?

I’ll be generic and say personality. However if I’m being fully truthful, I tend to be drawn to men with power, or those in charge. I’m into dominance and people who have their life together, I guess. Also, a tattoo or a piercing here and there doesn’t hurt, either.

    Photo: SKGlamour Photography ( www.facebook.com/skglamor/ )

  • Sukki Singapora – The World’s First Burlesque Artist from Singapore

Sukki Singapora – The World’s First Burlesque Artist from Singapore

Sukki Singapora, the first international burlesque performer from Singapore, is a global star who has performed in world class shows around the world.  She has been recognised for her efforts and achievements worldwide, having been nominated for London’s Asian Women of Achievement Awards for being a role model to all Asian women and men in the Arts scene.  Sukki has been featured on FHM India and Esquire Magazine, and was the first ever Burlesque performer to receive a Royal Invitation to Buckingham Palace.  SimplySxy takes this unique opportunity to interview Sukki on her amazing costumes, her role as the founder of The Singapore Burlesque Club and the Sexhibition cinema commercial.

SimplySxy: Hi Sukki, we are really pleased to have you on SimplySxy. We have watched a number of your splendid performances on YouTube and are intrigued by the eclectic mix of indie Bollywood that you have injected into the classic Hollywood glamour that is synonymous to burlesque acts. Who and where do you draw your inspiration from?

Sukki: When I first found out about burlesque, it was via the old American stars—as Asian burlesque performers were few and far between!—so much of my inspiration came from that old style “bump and grind.” However being the first burlesque performer from Singapore, I felt it was important to portray my heritage in my acts, and pay homage to Bollywood and Chinese performers such as Barbara Yung, so as time went on I began to develop my own style. Much of my inspiration comes from my cultural upbringing—I literally wear my heart on my sleeve when it comes to my costumes!

    My Boudoir Sukki Singapora AA

SimplySxy: You have some of the most amazing stage costumes! Do you work exclusively with any designers in particular?

Sukki: Every stage costume starts with an idea or an emotion which I turn into a sketch on paper. I draw out how I imagine the pieces to look like, and then work with different people to help turn those sketches into a reality. Most of my outfits are created with the incredibly talented Kiku Boutique, from the UK, who are the best in the world at turning my dreams into reality!

SimplySxy: What are the common stereotypes in burlesque and in light of your recent victory in legalizing burlesque in Singapore this week, do you think the Asian community in general is ready to accept burlesque as a mainstream performance?

Sukki: I think many people expect every burlesque performance to be a carbon copy of the American style—there’s a stereotypical Hollywood silhouette in burlesque, and as an Asian performer, although I do hark back to traditional burlesque costuming, I like to challenge it, and put my own twist on it. In terms of acceptance, it’s never going to be easy to go up against traditional values and ideas, however I think the more understanding there is for it being an art form, the more countries will follow the example of Singapore this week.

SimplySxy: As the founder of The Singapore Burlesque Club, can you share with us more about it as well as the type of burlesque events and workshops that are conducted?

Sukki: I founded The Singapore Burlesque Society in 2012 when I was approached by many other Singaporean women (and men!) who were interested in burlesque, but were too afraid to try it or didn’t know how to go about it. It started out as a community to support each other creatively, and then workshops and shows were introduced when it grew to become The Singapore Burlesque Club. Until this week, however, full burlesque performances and tuition in Singapore were a legal grey area, and so many of the workshops were conducted in secret or outside of the country by my incredibly brave members—those were some pretty challenging times for me! All of the shows also had to be held internationally, however members and students knew that if ever they wanted to make a career out of burlesque, that the Club would always be there to support Asian burlesque talent.Sukki Singapora burlesque My Boudoir A

SimplySxy: I am sure our readers are very interested in your upcoming projects. Could you share with us some of these and also let us in on the sexhibition cinema commercial?

Sukki: Of course! This August, I’ll be headlining my Henna Diamonds burlesque act at Sexhibition—The Erotic Event of the year—and in the run up to that I’ve just finished filming my debut UK cinema commercial for it which comes out on Friday 13th February. This year I’ll also be returning to New York to co-produce my 3rd annual run of the largest Asian burlesque event in the world, The Asian Burlesque Spectacular on May 30th as well as returning to Singapore for some extremely special events, which I’m both emotional and excited about, I can’t say any more than that! But if you want to see me sooner, I’ll be debuting the first peek of my Henna Diamonds act in London at the Café de Paris on Saturday 21st and 28th February this month, which is going to be my biggest, most elaborate act yet. I can’t wait!

SimplySxy: Burlesque is associated with sexiness, performing hot dance moves with alluring outfits. Do you have any tips for our readers who wish to bring burlesque into the bedroom to spice things up but have no clue how to start?

Sukki: Burlesque is all about body confidence and feeling sexy about you. Instead of thinking what will the other person like? I think it’s important to ask: what do I feel great in? Because at the end of the day, if you feel sexy and confident, then you will exude sexiness.

SimplySxy: One last question before we sign off. How do you define “sexy”?

Sukki: For me sexy is a mindset – feeling confident in your own skin. There’s nothing sexier than a person’s smile when they’re feeling great!

Neo-Burlesque, Variety or Striptease if You Please …

Watching a documentary on BBC Three about nurses being taught how to perform burlesque, I sat and thought maybe this is something I should try, so, I began my research into the unknown world of burlesque. I had just given birth to my beautiful son Leone, who is now nine years old, I knew I had to lose weight and regain my self confidence. I wanted to do this for myself and not anyone else.

I booked for a four week beginners class with http://www.burlesquebaby.com/ in London which was two hours per week for four weeks. The excitement and nerves running through my body was already taking a positive effect on me. I went to my very first burlesque class in 3 inched heels, leggings and a loose T-shirt. I wanted to feel relaxed and comfortable as my weight was 22 stone; I didn’t feel ready to wear a corset or stocking at this point in time.

The ladi337800_281491435237817_1748195253_oes in the class were of all ages, body shapes, and creed. We were all feeling the same, not sure what to expect in our first class, but we all got on really well and supported each other. The teacher was fully dressed in her burlesque outfit and looked stunning. She not only inspired me but her class was making me rediscover my body confidence and how to move in a sexual and powerful way.

When the music started, I did not recognize any of it, as it was by Sonny Lester, David Rose and way past the jazz and blues genre. I loved it! I felt I could escape as the music was pumping out of the speakers, we were all following our teacher’s lead. She was amazing and I couldn’t take my eyes off of her! Her hips, bumps and grinds, her flawless moves were making me want to continue the class for two hours more.

Our homework after the first class was to research the past burlesque stars, legends and the music. I bought many books on burlesque too—Jo Weldon, is the best when it comes to knowledge of burlesque! After my four weeks course, I saw Simon Cowell on the TV advertising for Britain’s Got Talent 2009, he said, “I’m looking for something I have never seen on the show before”. I thought, I know he has never had anyone striptease for him before, Should I audition? I got online and submitted my application form, not expecting to hear back from them. However, I had my first invitation to audition for the production team in Birmingham, UK. My nerves were at an all time high and while I had second thoughts about it, I went for it anyway. They were very welcoming and kind at the first audition. It was a long day in the holding room, but totally worth it.

Four months wentinsert by and I received a letter inviting me to the live auditions in Birmingham to striptease in front of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan. The Alexandra Palace held an audience of 2,500 people. The last time I danced in front of an audience of this size was when I was competing for the World Disco Dance Champion. Ant and Dec were in the wings with me, and wished me luck as I walked on the stage. All I could concentrate on was the judges. The judges had their questions for me and wished me well with my audition. The music started and I was so nervous, but I thought this is it: the last chance to dance again. Adrenaline was pumping through my veins, I felt sexy, in control and powerful. I had not felt this way since I was in my early 20s. Before I knew it, one of my nipple tassels flew off, so I threw it to Simon Cowell, hoping he would laugh but at the end of my act, he came up on stage and placed my tassel back on my breast for me, that made my day! I was so lucky, I made it to the semi-finals and danced to my favourite 80s track Flashdance … What a Feeling.

I was subsequently discovered by Sharon Kay, the director and CEO from Burlesque Baby TM, http://www.burlesquebaby.com/ I danced at her burlesque show in London and that was my very first experience of being welcomed into the burlesque community. Since then, I have also hosted Burlesque Baby hen parties in Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds during weekends. I recently won HEAT 2 of the Neo Burlesque Awards 2014, run by Burlesque Baby. This competition is open to all burlesque and boylesque performers from around the world and it is a fantastic event. The audience get to be involved in the judging process along with the judges. Burlesque has changed my life for the better. I have lost seven stone in weight since I started dancing again. My self-esteem and confidence are much greater now. I am also more involved in the burlesque community and really enjoy meeting everyone with the same passion. I feel powerful and sexy again !!!

I have recently connected with a burinsert3lesque legend from the US known as “Satan’s Angel”. She too, has taken me under her wing. I’m very excited to be competing in the Neo Burlesque Awards on 20 November 2014 at Madame Jo Jo’s, Soho, London. In addition, I have entered myself in the Miss Pinup UK 2014, which is a modelling competition. I love burlesque because I am my own choreographer, costume designer, hair and makeup stylist. I am in control of my act, no one can put their hands on my body as my body is my art. Any women out there reading this article, if you are thinking about trying a burlesque class, I’d say ” GO FOR IT”.
