Italian Travel Enthusiast Beatrice Bortolotti

Hi, I’m Beatrice and I come from Italy.

I would define myself as a pretty normal girl with an innate curiosity for the world around me, that’s why traveling plays a really important role in my life!

This passion I have for discovering is probably the reason behind my school career. During high school I have studied languages, that’s why I’m fluent in English despite it not being my first language. I also speak French and a little bit of German, apart from Italian, my native language. I’m now in my second year of University, studying Anthropology. It’s kind of an unusual degree, but sure it is interesting!

What is your proudest achievement so far?

My proudest achievement so far has been being able to rise up from a really dark place in my life. A lot of awful things happened in a really short period of time: I’ve had lost a lot of hope in life, my will to live was at the lowest point… It was really a terrible moment. But then I figured out that the only one that could bring my happiness back was me and that I couldn’t let events affect how I lived, and that’s when I was able to bounce back to life.

How will you describe your fashion style?

My fashion style is fluid, it changes every day, it’s a melting pot of different cultures and ages. I mostly get my style ideas from European and Japanese streetwear, so I try to mix them into something new and exciting everyday. I absolutely hate following fashion trends, I don’t want to dress up like everyone else!

Do you have any favorite quotes or mottos you like to use in life?

For all we know we might not get tomorrow”.

I know, it’s from a Pitbull song and that makes it sound not serious at all, but it’s the quote that most describes my lifestyle. We really don’t know when our last day on earth will be, so we should do things as we want to do them. It’s not about doing reckless actions, it’s just about living for ourselves and not for others expectations. Don’t let others decide for your life.

If you could change one thing about the world, what will it be?

I would love to get rid of world ignorance! A lot of bad things come from not knowing and not understanding other people or cultures… Homophobia, xenophobia, sexism, prejudices and many other things could be removed if only people weren’t so unwillingly to understand them. The world could really be a wonderful place if knowledge and mutual understanding were more common.

Which was the last movie you watched and was it good?

The last film I watched and I really enjoyed was “Isle of dogs”, by Wes Anderson. I really love animals, particularly dogs. I also love animation movies if they aren’t too childish, as this one was wonderful, incredibly well done and positively unusual. It’s a great film, both for adults and kids.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I usually spend my free time in a lot of different ways: I hang out with my friends, go on trips with my boyfriend, go for a walk with my dog, shopping,… Nothing too unusual for a 20 years old girl. But when I’m alone I like to try new hobbies: sometimes I bake and cook new dishes, I tried painting with watercolors, I tried archery and I used to sing in a choir. I’m now into sewing, I do some little DIY projects with my clothes. Next I’ll probably take up will be embroidery, I see a lot of wonderful works on Instagram which I want to try it as well!

What is a lame or funny attempt a guy has tried to know you?

The lamest attempt to get to know me was from this guy who contacted me on Instagram some years ago. I knew him in real life, his classroom was next to mine, but he didn’t have the guts to talk to me in person. He always tried to ask me to go out for a coffee, via Instagram. I don’t like coffee and neither I like cowards, he could have just asked me in the school hallway and I would have considered his invitation.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions Beatrice. One question before we end, how do you define “sexy”?

Sexy is self-confidence, is self-respect. Being sexy isn’t a physical attribute, at all. Being sexy is showing yourself as a determinate, passionate and confident woman (or anything else) who loves and respects herself for what she is.
