Tips For New Adult Film Performers

I’ve been working behind-the-scenes in the adult industry for the past 6 years. When looking to advance in my career, I decided it was time to make the jump to being a performer. Having been on set for so long, I’ve been lucky enough to work with directors that support me and even will recommend me as a performer to other companies. I’ve also had an abundance of support in my new endeavor from my amazing wife who also works in the industry in marketing.

How A Typical Shooting Process Goes

Of course, prior to any scene, you must be tested and your clear test needs to be posted into the PASS system. When you arrive to set, you fill out your legal documentation for the records. Performers will show each other our clear tests to be sure everyone feels comfortable.

Beyond that it varies based on what the particular company needs as far as a scene. I’ve mostly shot with gonzo companies, which are very minimal in the direction. There is a basic idea and it leads to sex. Typically a full movie will consist of four scenes with varying partners per scene.

Misconceptions About Adult Performers

A lot of people just assume it’s an all-out orgy between performers at all times. This is definitely not the case. Many performers have families and regular lives outside of the industry. It is a job, just a little more fun than the typical. Many people have also asked if the performers are being forced into this line of work. I can say that on all of the sets I have ever been on, consent is the number one rule. We always want all performers to feel completely comfortable at all times.

Challenges Faced When Performing

I feel like there is nothing to really complain about as a performer. That being said, one of the biggest challenges I have noticed since the beginning is an abundance of downtime on set. So you need to stay in the right mindset and you need to feel comfortable so you can perform when the pressure is on and multiple people are watching you.

Differences In Sex Between On & Off Cam

Obviously, on camera, you have people watching you in addition to the camera. There’s also the consideration of opening for the camera so they can see the action. It’s less intimate than sex off camera for sure. There is a lot more of a mental game with sex on camera. You’re not just having sex for yourself, so for me at least it’s a totally different type of connection.
